If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Pulled up behind his black "S" at a light. He juiced it a bit. I followed. He went full out. So did I. I had to back off in order to keep from climbing up and over him. After he was not successful in ditching me at the roundabout, he went full out again. I was not close to full out to stay on bumper. When road opened to 4 lanes went by him quickly while he was wide open. At next light. He was not a typical ass, but was smiling. Lowered the window and asked "what the hell is that?" Gave him the story. He said he needs to buy one for his wife. I let him know how cool I thought his car was. We thanked each other and went on our way. I turned right, he kept going straight. He also nicknamed my car "whisper great white"... I like it. Slick like a shark, whisper quiet blazing performance.

Now that this is broken in, amazing how it can keep up or pass by some amazing cars. Especially when already rolling. And not being a R-Spec trim, ultimate sleeper with the guts Inside.

That made me smile. Thanks for sharing.

(I had the chance to blow away a "spirited" 328i driver the other day. Being that it was the main road near my office, with no divider between the four lanes of traffic, I didn't wanna embarrass him nor put others' lives in danger).

I smiled and let him go - like a shark with a full belly)

:D

Full belly shark. Like that. You are so nice to play easy with that 328. :)

The slowest Cayman is about even with the RSpec in 0-60. Good that you didn't get into the curves, though, with the mid-engine beast.

A friend of mine was racing last week in a Porsche (on a track) and blew past a Ferrari F430. He sent me the video along with his quote: "The trick to passing an F430 on the track is making sure they own their car and you are driving someone else's."

I wonder if the Cayman S driver was trying. That car is freakishly quick.

NICE!

Ran into one on the freeway one day. It was a short burst but he couldn't pull away from me. Like you, I had to back off a little to keep from running him over.

Cool run, DRS, but it's at least possible the other driver was just playing around, looking for cops, etc.

Sometimes I find myself letting another car get ahead when I know I'm faster, just so I can watch their show, or because I'm not in the mood, or because I suspect cops are in the area, etc. I'm sure those other drivers think they "beat a Genesis", or more likely, "beat a Bentley" (what is with the Bentley crap?), but who cares. On the other hand, I've dusted a number of equal or faster-on-paper cars, and I'm quite sure they weren't playing around.

I recently got into it with a Porsche Boxster turbo-modded as well, as I lazily picked too high a gear to downshift into out of a hard butterfly ramp in traffic. I partly cut him off to stay in front and didn't make that mistake again, realizing he was aggressive and meant business. After that, he could not get around me in a straight 70-130 race on open road and then into a swooping left-hander. When he was beside me at one point I could hear the turbo leak/lag. By then, we were back in a cop-likely zone and each let off to normal speeds, nodding to each other.

So, unless you're doing a traditional drag race and everyone knows what's up, it's hard to be sure who's actually racing for real, including yourself ;)

What's with all the street racing? I would have thought most Genesis owners had outgrown such a childish and dangerous behavior. (wink/wink)

Life's to short to grow up and not have fun. :)

Instead of showing up at the pearly gates all fit and no bruises, not having fun and enjoying life, I'd rather come sliding in sideways on my motorcycle all bruised, battered and dusty saying "Man, what a hell of a ride" :)

Top Gear, you can usually tell who's really trying and who's not. ;)

Yep, I agree.

Well, as I explained, no, you cannot. Maybe you're thinking about the obvious times when you're at a light next to someone who's revving it, pointing forward, and they say "hey, let's race!" Maybe you are one of them being so obvious. I'm not talking about those times.

I'm talking about all the little moments of aggressive or spirited driving when you cannot assume they're holding wide open throttle or going for a full-on drag race or doing either for more than a split second just to trick you into pumping your testosterone. Those times far outnumber the obvious ones. Part of the fun, though, is playing with that mind game, and not thinking about the cars so much as the skill of driving and strategy.

However, if you're on their turf, they probably know where the cops are and you don't. I get attempts around where I live by people who are being obvious, but either unaware of the cops or too drunk to notice. I just let them go, maybe with a little rev but not much more, and they're doubly stupid if they assumed I was WOT and "racing", or that they "won". Likewise, I've moved away from a vast number of aggressive drivers just by rolling on the power halfway without even downshifting. Was that a race? Were they wide open? Well, I wasn't, so think again.

OK, then maybe I'm just too old and can usually tell when they are baiting, playing or really trying. Their actions, exhaust sound, etc can usually tell if they really are trying or not. Or at least I think so.

And yes, I've done the same as you many times, just to get away from the idiots. ;)

The reality is, he was flat to the floor and working it hard. As he said, wide open. The 5.0 was much faster in the setting I described. Just the way it is.

Yep... I believe that.

Do you folks who have either a defeatist attitude, have a religion of magazine acceleration specs, or did not read my bio of the event not understand I spoke to the driver at the light? I am a bit snarky about this because, one only had to read to understand he spoke to me.. And was smiling and asking what the heck the Genesis was..

I said what he did and he confirmed at the light. He was running it as hard as that car could go.

And I would believe the 70-130 jaunt you describe would have the same outcome. Genesis 5.0 1, Porsche 0. At those speeds (above 100) the Porsche behind you would have less drag to deal with. And he could not get it around you.

What model Boxter is factory turbo?

Ha-ha! Very funny, but still doesn't rule out that he might have been playing with you. You have 100 more horsepower (429) than the Cayman S (325), but also 1,100 more pounds to carry (3,100 vs 4,200), hence basic Math, not Religion, says the Cayman S has 11% better power-to-weight ratio (0.11 vs your 0.10 horses per pound), as well as the aerodynamics vs the sedan. My car, for example, also has a ratio of 0.10 horses per pound (325 hp in my case / 3,200 lbs) but better aerodynamics and weight balance than the sedan.

And I would believe the 70-130 jaunt you describe would have the same outcome. Genesis 5.0 1, Porsche 0. At those speeds (above 100) the Porsche behind you would have less drag to deal with. And he could not get it around you.
Well, less drag would be an advantage, not a hindrance, but my point was that my Genesis 3.8 R-Spec Coupe is similarly aerodynamic and much more powerful than the older Boxster I ran with (255 hp/2,900 lbs, or 0.08), but since his was modded, who knows what he had or how well it was tuned.

What model Boxter is factory turbo?
None. As I said, it was apparently modded. A regular Boxster (before 2013) is not that fast and does not have turbo, but I could clearly hear a turbo leak/lag.

Anyway, my point was not that different from yours, that the specs are not always much of an indication, which is why it comes down to how they are driving, etc. Most of the time, you just cannot be sure whether they are giving it the beans or toying with you, or both at different times...

I was sure... Because he told me so, with a smile to my face. He was shocked and interested. Like I said before, he said he needed to get a sleeper Genny for his wife. Again, he said he was flat out. Which included the exhaust cut out open. Which made sense to me since it was so loud.

I knew there was not a turbo model. Wanted to make sure you were talking about a mod squad car.

Nice bro! These cars are a beast down low, I've had my run in's with a lot of cars (mainly buddies) one thing I noticed, when I lose I get walked on the top end or from a start from a roll
