  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2nd wiper set change today, wasn't near the dealer so DIY, manual states

1. remove the key from the ignition (always a good sign when it is a keyless car).
2. Hit the MIST function to move the wiper into service mode.

So.

With the car off, the wipers will not run.

in ACC, the wipers move and return to off position.

same with car started....

I just changed with the wipers in the off position but does anyone know how to get the wipers into the "service" position.

7-26 in the owner's manual clearly incorrect.

Yup. I've been down this road before and actually asked here on this forum.

This is what I do (there might be some added steps not needed)

1. Get in the car and shut the door
2. Push the start button
3. Push the start button again to put it into ACC mode
4. Push the "Mist" feature upwards for 5 seconds or so
5. The wipers will move up and stop to service them
6. Get back in the car and turn the car on and hit the wiper button to put them back down.

*Note - No need to put your foot on the break to start the car.

Presto!

Keep in mind that the steeringwheel will move when you hit the start button each time. I always let the steeringwheel stop before hitting the mist button. I bet you could push it upwards when it is moving but I've never tried.

The way to do it is:

When you push the ignition button OFF, push the wiper stalk up (mist) for a few seconds. The wipers will then go to the up position, and stay there for blade changing.
Must be done within a few seconds, probably 25 or 30, for the blades to go to the up position. After that, they will not go up unless you first put ignition button ON, then OFF again.

The blades will not return to the home position until you start car the next time.

I think the car must be in OFF mode before pushing the "Mist" feature upwards. Make sure you hold it in the Mist mode for 5 seconds.

1. Get in the car and shut the door
2. Push the start button
3. Push the start button again to put it into ACC mode
3.5 Push the start button one more time to turn the car OFF
4. Push the "Mist" feature upwards for 5 seconds or so
5. The wipers will move up and stop to service them
6. Get back in the car and turn the car on and hit the wiper button to put them back down.

thanks guys, Shutting the door is the key part I missed.

Since I was getting in and out, I didnt shut the door.

Just tested, and the door must be closed to put the wipers in service mode.

Thanks guys. Saved me some time and instructions provided here worked perfectly the first time.

What would you recommend for the replacements, may I ask?

You're not stupid. That would be the engineers who make us go through 6-8 steps to change wiper blades.

On my Equus I used Michelin 8520 and 8524 Stealth Ultra. The reason for the two different numbers is because of the differing length of left and right wipers. I can't yet say how they will perform, but they got good amazon reviews.

Key point here is turning the car back off again (which I missed in the whole thread 😆) and then pulling the “mist” stalk back for 4 seconds. Sheesh.
