If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

As some of you may have seen from some of my posts over the past three weeks or so, I have been frustrated in my efforts to purchase a new R-Spec. I remained patient and finally obtained, today, a 2012 Genesis R-spec sedan in black. More importantly, I was able to purchase it for the Circle program price. My cost was $42,551.95, plus a $599 dealer prep fee. My car included the iPod cable and cargo tray, no Bridgestone summer tires. In addition to the Circle price, I also took advantage of the Motozuma program and Hyundai matched the $500 I had deposited into that account. My only other costs were tax, tag, and title. The dealer threw in rebadging for the trunk and wheels.

If it were not for Rick Case Hyundai in Davie/Weston, Florida, I most likely would not own this car. More specifically, their new car sales manager, Ralph Sorrentino. While every other dealer I had talked to in South Florida laughed off the Circle price and insisted on MSRP, Ralph Sorrentino went above and beyond all the other dealers. On his own (without and nudge or hint from me), Ralph reached out to his Hyundai Regional Manager, explained my situation with the Circle pricing and secured a car for me as part of his next allocation that arrived at the dealership yesterday. I highly recommend Rick Case Hyundai in Davie/Weston, Ralph Sorrentino and his sales consultant, James Taylor. They were great.

As an fyi, Rick Case Hyundai Davie/Weston received three R-specs yesterday, including mine (all three in black). As of this morning, the other two were already sold and being delivered later this afternoon. I am not sure how good the following information is but I was told that most Hyundai dealers are to be allocated 1 R-spec every six months. I questioned that info simply on the fact that Rick Case had already received four (including their first one which I had test driven several weeks back). In response I was told some of the larger dealers are securing more but I am not sure how long that will continue. I also mentioned to the sales consultant that I had seen information indicating only 1200 are to be produced. The sales consultant told me it may be closer to 1000 that actually make it to the U.S. Again, I am not sure of the accuracy of any of this information.

Lastly, I want to thank everyone on this forum. I have read and processed vast amounts of information here that was all extremely helpful in my decision and purchase of the Genesis. I love the car. Thank you.

Congrats and good luck with your new ride!

Awesome car.... I got one too today.. :)

to both of you, how does the suspension compare to the 3.8 or 4.6 suspension?

Had an early 2009 and most of y'all know how I felt about that. On the 2012 R-Spec.... its very tight and composed is the best way I can put it. Its still a pretty rough riding car. Its not a Buick..lol. So far Im very happy. got 101 miles on it and gonna try and keep it on the low side.

I did not drive the 3.8 or the 4.6. I do, however, agree with Seattle Genesis's assessment in that the 5.0 is very tight and composed. It is definitely a firm ride but I had purchased long ago a new 1996 Volvo 850 Turbo TLA. That ride was tight and firm as well -- so this is to my liking.

Seatle its a rough ride! Are you going to enjoy that? The rough ride was the sole reason I upgraded from a 2010 to the 2012 (Much better) and I could have sworn that you had a similar issue with the ride.

The 2012 ride is so different from the 2009 ride. This is such a hard thing to describe in text. Im very happy with the 2012 ride. Its more refined and composed. You still feel those potholes, but the suspension doesnt crash or fail like it did in the 2009 model.

I was going to wait on the 2012 4.6 V8, but there are none in this area and I was getting tired of waiting. There were three R-specs at one dealer and there was nothing on their site about it. After talking to the salesman he said they had them for three weeks just sitting there. When I was there they had two other people looking at these. He said it was like feast or famine when it comes to selling high end cars. He told me they have sold 28 cars in three days... and the economy is bad?

Anyway it was a very pleasurable experience. I'll be happy for a along time. I hope.

The economy is bad, but it does seem to be a good time to be a Hyundai dealer. They're setting sales records every quarter. When I was at my dealer negotiating a price on an R-Spec, I overheard a woman who was disappointed that she couldn't test drive a car (I don't recall which model). The salesman apologized, mentioning that every single one that had come in for the past several weeks had been presold.

Begs the question what kind of cars. Accents, Elantras? Plenty of 2011 Genesis sitting on lots for months and months. Also, I think Hyundai may be doing the last minute supply thing and inventories are kept low.

Congrats elohb and Seattle! I just got an early oil change on mine and have opened her up a bit more - fantastic car.

To both of you, I'd suggest checking the metal trim just below the window on the R-Specs. Mine had little reddish/brown spots (quite small) and I also noticed them on Newman's R-Spec that was sitting on the lot here in KC before delivery. The one V-6 12 did not have these spots - seems to be on the R-Specs only. The service department said I should bring it in on a non-weekend day and they'd take care of it - I'm hopeful.

I'm very interested in hearing if they manage to take care of those spots. I won't be getting my R-Spec for another 2 weeks but it sounds like this might be a common problem. If they do manage to clean them out, please ask them what they did and share it with us.

And let me just say how exceedingly cool it is that a fellow forum member is watching out for me! The dealer was a bit nonplussed at how I could request them to take care of the reddish spots on my trim when I am located 2K miles from the dealership. I think that they were a bit surprised as well when I sent them pictures of my car on the lot from that day as well...

Thanks to Trotti for his help and thanks to everyone for making this such a great community.

Trotti - How many miles did you have on the car before getting the oil changed? I have purchased my case of 5w30 Royal Purple for the car but upon reading the RP web site I have learned that they recommend that you not put their oil in a brand new car until the first scheduled oil change or at minimum 2000 miles. On the other hand, another member here posted a link to a website recommending to change the first oil after 20 miles in order to remove the metal shavings coming out from a brand new engine...

Cheers,

I may have been the one directing you to that article for the oil change after 20. I did at just over 20 (actually had it done while I was signing the paperwork because I took it over 20 on the test drive and got them to throw that in) and again at 762 on Saturday. The Popular Mechanics article I posted before suggested 20 and 1,000. I figure 20/750 is close enough to give me the confidence to open the engine up without harm.

That said, I'm probably being overprotective and throwing away good oil - but how much is my peace of mind worth?

You're very welcome! I'm glad that you had them address the problem as I hope to follow you up and have them look at mine sometime soon as well!

BTW - I still hope you change your mind about those wheels - they look amazing on your car (and since I saw your car before you did, I'm uniquely qualified to provide that opinion ;) )
