  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Thought since we had one regarding the R-Spec I'd start one for us V-6 folks.... I may or may not have had mine up to 135-140ish before....

Wondering how far I could get before the electronic nanny kicks in? 155mph?

Did Ponch or Jon see you do that? :)

(joke from another thread)

No idea how fast our 3.8 can go. Only had mine up to about 90, as I don't drive on the highways very often.

I have a video of mine pushing close to 130 over the memorial day weekend (trying to chase down my buddies ducati). The car felt like it had plenty more to go but I backed off due to not having super high performance tires on the car and not wanting to push it too far.

I don't know the red line, gear ratios and rear end gears for the 3.8. But theoretically, if they are the same as the 5.0, wouldn't the top speed be the same as the v8?

Maybe, if the engine can actually do it becuase at one point the engine is not able to accelerate anymore because of physics (air resistance, weight, etc.). That's where bhp comes into play.

I have seen several videos on youtube of V6s maxing out. It looks like 152-155MPH is the max for the V6s.

I am pretty sure they are not the same.

That is pretty darn good if that's the case. Though I bet it would take a long time for it to get there.

The tires that came on mine (Michelin Energy Saver A/S) are V rated (up to 149).

I can confirm a 2013 that may be owned by me and may have been driven by me a week or so ago with a K&N drop in filter and air flapper removed hit 135mph and then basically stopped.

155mph MAY be possible but I think after 135mph it would be a crawl to get it there.

Eh I hit 120 easy the day I bought mine. I'm sure it'll hit 140-150 no problem.

someone else can confirm this but in the US, the cars have governors that stop them from going above 155mph.

the HP required to do 150mph is 250hp. shape of the car might effect it from going that fast, but that is the rule of thumb. I think anything above 300hp wouldn't have much problem hitting 150mph. It takes a lot more hp to go any faster. Something like 1000hp and a sleek body is needed to get to 250.

The tire recall flipping to Michelin V rated tires (which this rating is good "past 155 mph") from W rated (175+ rating?), Hyundai mandates they will REDUCE limiter from 155 to 130 on the V6. Other posts have pictures of the letter people got from Hyundai saying so. Well, Hyundai must think the V6 will go 155, or they would not have said so, or made the busy body draconian decision to change the limiter.

There is a report below of a 2013 model hitting a brick wall just over 135... Well, there are reports on other posts of 150+ in a V6. Certain 2012 rental cars (Hertz) base V6 would not stop accelerating hard at 135, and may have indeed went past 140 in certain two lane passing situation, whizzing by 7 cars in a lung straight with no incoming traffic.. That shortly after the cars were passed, still pulling hard at 140+, stable as Accord at 55. Impressed renter so much, went and bought a 2012 V8 version. Maybe Hyundai fooled with the limiter in 2013. Would not be a surprise because of the bullying reduction in 2015 V6 when tires are replaced.

So, who can report a mystery person confirming a 2015 V6 hitting limiter at 155 (Hankook tires)? This would settle his question.

i've gotta go out to my parents on sunday. There is a 2 mile straight on a oneway, two-lane bridge. no one is ever on it. I'll see what I can do.

OK so is there any way to get mine re-programmed? I have Bridgestone Serenity Plus rated for over 155mph.

Any thing out there I can just plug into the OBDII port?

where are you trying to get to so fast?

Nowhere particularly. But I'd like to have the option.

Yep.... Options are good.. Knowing you can execute it at your choice. Not some busy body limiting what is obvious a auto that can handle big speeds.
