If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Top Speed Run

im a current honda goldwing owner (2005) & ive had many bikes but will always have & always love a honda goldwing, i was thinking about buying a harley ( the rocker c - soft tail ) but would only drive it local im not trying to get stuck anywhere far from home, so i have had my genesis up to about 120mph & my honda goldwing to about 125mph

Brihvac, I have had the same problem with my tires. Right after driving it off of the lot, I took it back and they rebalanced the tires. It helped but I still get a vibration around 80. Need to take it back again and see if they can correct it. I find it kind of wierd that the test car I drove also had a tire out of balance problem.

There is another thread about out of balance tires you may be interested in reading if you have not done so already. Search on "balance" may get you there (I think ). According to that thread, the balancing may not be corrected at the dealership completely as they may not have the best equipment.

Same thing happened to me...here's the thread about my experience: http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=2372&highlight=tires+balance

I've been trying to set this up for myself:D Problem is doing this during daylight and on a road that no traffic is on AND no cops are patroling.

It's been TOO long of a process. People have told me, "Go to Brainard raceway." Problem with that is it's only a quarter mile. I need much more than that. Soon enough.

FYI, I took video of me attempting to do this and when I got to 133mph, I saw another car coming and decided this was not a good idea and slowed to the speed limit (55mph).

Soon, I hope I will have video of the actual top speed for a 4.6.

Well I spoke on the phone with someone from Brainard Raceway (MN), but it's $6,000/day to rent any of there track which are a 2.5 mile track i think, and a 3.1 mile track and the dude said that people regularely hit 160mph on the 3.1.

He mentioned that I could also join in on one of the clubs that are always there: Porche club, Corvette club, Slowpoke club (whatever this is), and would have to split fees of some sort with everyone else, but I have a feeling this would be too much of a hassle to be worth it.

(Sigh).....This sucks:( However, I did order a radar detector.........

I had my 4.6 up to 110 mph this week on a rarely used state highway in Southern Colorado. Only reason I didn't go faster is because I wasn't familiar with the road and I didn't want to hit a curve at that speed.

The car was still extremely quiet and smooth at these speeds. It handled very well and didn't feel loose at all. I was surprised at how quickly the car accelerated from 65 (the speed limit where I was at) to 110 -- especially since I didn't have the accelerator floored.

I've had my Genesis for a little over 3 months now and I'm very pleased.

To be honest with you, I wouldnt pay the kind of money some have paid for their Genesis. As I said, I got a hell of a deal on mine. The dealer lowered the price from $36,130 to $31,500 THEN gave me $18,000 for my Benz. That was $4K more than what I paid for it almost 4 months prior. So I looked at it like I got another four grand off the $31,500. Lets face it, Hyundais dont hold their value for sh*t and the Genesis is too new to prove otherwise.

KBB has the Genesis holding its value better than the 2009 GS (by a slim margin) and significantly better than the Infiniti M (we'll see if it pans out).

Ironically, the type of deal you got on your Genesis is exactly what hurts resale value (you typically either get your savings up front or get it on resale value).

Was out today on a section of I-27 in northern Broward / southern Palm Beach County. An area with little traffic and nothing but everglades between the road and civilization. The road is smooth enough but weathered and textured enough to create alot of tire noise from the Dunlops. Was in manual mode and had passed any cars, nothing but open road ahead. Started exelarating "briskly", and was paying attention to the road ahead, not the speedo. Suddenly I felt the tranny shift, looked down to see what was going on, and it had shifted to 5th gear and was doing 140 MPH. Saw some cars a head and deceided not to create the posibility of an unsafe environment. So I slowed down rather than contine toward top speed. Think I stunned a Bright red Jag XF as I passed him, no doubt thinking he was MOVEING at 90 MPH.
Car felt just fine. In fact noticably better than on a section doing 70, where some undulation had the car feeling bissy.

on a slightly rough road any modern car will ride smoother at a higher speed. This is due to the response time of the suspension... At faster speed the tires end up "skipping" results in a smoother ride but there is less contact with the road....

Sorry in advance for the soapbox rant.

God help anyone turning a public road into a dragstrip that ends up hurting someone (other than themselves.) With all due respect, I just don't understand 140+mph on a public road ("hardly used" or not.) Yeah, yeah... world's greatest driver, have it under control, yada yada. When I was in law enforcement, there were many world's greatest drivers that were scraped up off the road; many innocent victims too.

I'd expect such things from kids... we've all done questionable things when we were young, but I'm surprised to see several adults, presumably with kids of their own, acting so recklessly.

I'm sure there are a dozen self-justifications people conjure up - to me, it's no different than drunk driving (and similar logic -- "Only live down the road", "I'm fine to drive", etc.) Unnecessary risk, no matter how you spin it.

Not lecturing, just my opinion. I guess I look at things differently now that I have kids of my own.

Be safe.

True!! and please know I am not bashing you or your comment.

But you can be just as dead going 60 as well...on or off the track.

That is just like telling folks that smoke..."you know that will kill you and possibly others too...(like my mother who never smoked but grew up around it and now she can hardly breath)" but you know good and well it aint gonna stop em.

However, we all know that we shouldnt be doing this and say BYE BYE to your keys if you get caught.

Like he said...BE SAFE!

Well I have to say that I am the proud owner of the 3.8 V6 and have had the privelege to drive my car on the autobahn with no speed limit, but sad to say that the car topped out at 140 :( with plenty of power left in the engine. It's almost safe to say that I have the only Genesis in Germany and this car is such a head turner :D it's rediculous; always getting confused with a Mercedes. God I love this car and I wouldn't trade it.

Too cool! Is a phenomenal car and I'd rather have it any day than an E220 or a 5er. Did you get the Tech Package? Better stereo and navigation than Mercedes ever dreamed of putting in a car. People keep confusing mine with a Benz as well... I left the H badges on 'cause I'm proud to have it!

And i'm coming in way late to this thread and have posted this elsewhere but in short, guys, this car doesn't drive like a German and frankly I'm ok with that because of everything else it does so right.

I'd be VERY interested to drive a Euro 3.8/4.6 as the suspension calibration is likely quite different. There's no way a car this 'soft' would make it in Germany with the roads the way they are. Nor would a Lexus GS/LS with N.American suspension calibration. It quite literally couldn't keep up with the directional changes necessary at the speeds involved. Above 120 the car is simply too 'light' to inspire confidence.

I've driven the Autobahn and all over Germany in an Audi RS4 (yes, Avis rents them as well as Porsches), own an '08 CLS550 and just got an '03 SL55. Previous car was an '03 E55 that I modified. So I'm used to having 500+HP underfoot and know how to use it. The Genesis is the best all 'rounder I've ever had. I still want my 'bahnstormer for the weekends but I love the G.

Ping....you like????

I thought it adds a subtle touch:D

Was this the U.S. model? Are you saying there is a speed limiter at 140mph?

You might check out the December issue of Motor Trend. They drove a 4.6 across Europe. It was an article not a "road test"; and the article is available on line. They made no mention of an "European model". Top end speed was just a bit north of 150 mph, at which the car felt somewhat "loose".
I've owned several German cars over the last fifty years, and they all seemed to have an Euro-type suspension. Germans design their cars to sustain autobahn speeds, they have to.
Genesis suspension is basically as sophisticated as any other auto on the road. If there is truly a Euro model, this can be easily verified by someone in this forum who lives in Europe. Just go to your dealer and get the part numbers for springs and shocks. There may be other differences like in bushings, but comparing springs and shocks keeps the comparison fairly simple. With those Euro part numbers we can compare N. American part numbers. I suspect there is no difference.
Comment on tire speed ratings: I remember when speed ratings were first introduced. There were a lot of articles then on the subject. At that time "H" was the highest speed rated. As I recall, tires were tested for a minimum of 18 miles at 80+ degrees to meet a particular standard. My point is that few people, even in Germany, can find fifteen miles to run at top speed; and say a quick run-up with "H" tires into "V" speeds will "probably" not cause the tires to disintegrate. Nonetheless, I err on the side of caution and never exceed my tire speed ratings.

The Genesis is not sold in Europe. Motor Trend brought over two from California. http://blogs.motortrend.com/6561705...-trail-of-the-orient-express-day-1/index.html

The OEM Dunlops are V-rated, and the governor is probably set at the speed rating for liability reasons.

The V8 Genesis is governed at 154 mph. Once you get closer to 200 mph any car needs 200 mph tires, 200 mph body molding, 200 mph brakes, 200 mph suspension and on and on. This costs a lot of money, so it makes sense just to limit most cars.
