  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Top speed testers?

Wow that's crazy, glad you got her back! I've went up to about 120 a few times before I shut her down. Coming from a Cobalt SS, I'm amazed at how smooth it is at speed.
more importantly they arrested total ten total involved . they raided a house a mile away from my home and recovered four more stolen vehicles eight more were arrested.

Maxed out my '15 5.0 several times...hits 146 and computer shuts her down. Have verified the speed with GPS and it will do it in 6/7/8th gear. Michelin Pilot Sports as well...

I never pushed my '15 5.0 past 140mph, but today, I had a chance twice with my '18 G80 sport....1st time almost 140mph and the 2nd 150mph and the car was still pulling strong! I wonder what is the top speed limiter? the Stinger owners are reporting 155-168mph.
I'll wait till spring, put my summer wheels and Michelin PS4s back on and then we'll see.
I didn't feel like going faster with OEM all season tires, even though they're rated at 168mph.

The interwebs says 135 which seems low. But if yours has no limiter, by some stroke of luck, I would think it should hit ~170 before wind resistance balances it out....Might have to do it in 6th or 7th gear to be in the powerband. Put the dash on MPH mode next time...

I think 3.8 and/or with lower rating tires from the factory, it's possible they are limited to 130-135?

I checked the OEM tires rating on my car, which are Michelin Procontact TX and those are "W" - 168mph (thank God!) :D

Next time I'll have my "draggy" ON, record it within JB4 app and MPH mode on dash as well. Well, maybe GoPro? hahah!

I'm also glad that you and your family are safe I know it happened awhile ago but that had to be terrifying. Thank you for sharing Merry christmas!

As I understand the top end limiter for the 5.0 is 151 limited by tires I believe. So I'd imagine at least 151 but maybe more if the JB4 lifts the limiter.:spoton:

For goodness sakes, pay attention if you attempt it.:shake:

Blessings and Very Merry Christmas!!

Back in 2015-2016 when Hyundai recalled their defective tires, they switched to lower rating tires and re-flashing cars computers to ~135mph for 3.8 owners, iirc, 5.0's were getting different tires.

JB4 has nothing to do with it, it can't remove the speed limiter.....yet. I think Terry motioned that on Stinger's forum, that would be possible in the near future ;)

IF I ever attempt to do it, it won't be for long....~3-6 sec. and I'll back down. I'm not crazy, lol

Merry Christmas to you too!

Sorry, I ought to have said, "override the limiter." There are some piggyback ECU that do.

No disrespect but you probably won't do it. You have to be committed you need to be a little crazy. Especially if you are doing it alone everytime I've done it , it's been in a race think about it you have to worry about other people, cops and road conditions. 3 to 6 seconds then back down ! Don't do it leave it to the professionals. Lol Merry christmas.

I'm doing it alone with no cars around me, on a flat 2-4 miles stretch . there are a few sections near my house I can possible do it. It might take a while or never, since I'm no longer interested in hitting top end limiter. I was just afraid that those cars might be limited to 130mph or so. Now I know they aren't. When I was younger and had my 540i/6 tuned with Dinan, I would push it to 160+mph at least once a week. But those days are over. Merry Christmas :)

I hope that you change your mind, I apologize you are a professional! To me it doesn't seem as fast when someone is doing the same high speeds. God bless.

Fastest I've ever had my Genesis was 157 as indicated on GPS. I started to get a small bit of hood shake up near the windshield at around 145 but it was more of just a slight buffet. When it started to jump a bit more than I was comfortable with, I let out of it.
At the time I was running down a modded Hemi Challenger on a long open stretch of an unmentioned freeway.

The car had plenty more in at, as I was in 8th and fairly low in the rpm band. However, at that speed I was looking way down the highway rather than at my gauges!

The Charger that I'm driving now will hit 150 with no sweat and I've yet to try and top it out.

I know with my 5.0 AWD, at just past 140 or so, it shifts into an over drive gear at WOT. At which point it won't pull nearly as strong. That's fully expected, and in my case, an easy 143 isn't bad at all for a full size sedan. Given how composed and effortless it was, I know it would have kept going. But that was a good place to lift and get back to the fun twisty section that was approaching.

The G80 can certainly move, and sounds great while doing it!

I have managed to peg the speedo in my R-Spec with a GPS indicated 158. Going straight the car handles the speed fairly well, but I avoid triple digits around bends as I think there is too much body roll and the car does not feel solid in the back end. I spend way more time doing 110+ than I should probably admit, but it is just soo damned easy!

Again glad that some one notices the high speed (145+mph) hood shake. Same on my 2013 5.0. Not a great feeling though the rest of the car is quiet and steady with no rear end light feel. Just not interested in the hood coming up and obstructing vision. Keep it under 130 and everything nice and quiet. Really comes on from 80 to 140 though. Done it a couple of times and no need to do it again.

I have '13 3.8 Sedan, I had it up to 122 with much more to go.

I easily find myself at 120 on my way home from work on a bridge with a lot of open space but have gotten it up to 145 easily in 8th with a few thousand rpm left so this thing could easily go higher. Couldn't get it higher cause traffic coming up in front of me 😥

Feels very smooth at any speeds

I've had my 12 R spec bury the speedometer needle. I'm guessing just north of the 160 mph range indicated on the speedo. Was on a lonely road along i5 in "Mexico"

I have always been a fast moving guy and I was wondering if any of our R-spec ers has had the Genesis on the limiter. I'm considering an R-spec but I have never had enough room to to really let mine out. about 115 max. If you have had a chance how does she handle at a buck fifty? I'm not speeding officer, just flying low, I do have my pilots license!
Yea i have i 4.6 and have got it to 150 it is still extremely smooth does not feel your going 150

I agree, these cars feel very comfortable "at speed" (although I haven't had mine anywhere close to 150...). 80 mph feels like 60, etc...
