  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

On a whim, I stopped by a Lexus dealer yesterday and talked trade-in for my 2011 3.8 with tech.

While they did offer me a new 2011 ES-350 at invoice, they only offered $25k for my Genesis (13k miles).

All in all, they wanted a little over $16k to make the exchange.

No thanks!

Take your Genesis to CarMax and get a quote. Appraisal is good for 7 days, and is a better indication of the true wholesale value of your car than an offer that is combined with a new car purchase (dealers buy at wholesale, and sell at retail, to make money).

Have you driven a ES350? Dynamically speaking, it's an absolute turd.

I can't figure that "trade-down".

Not sure if you guys have seen the new GS350 but it looks very good. It has 12.3" wide lcd which shows side by side views and they have 835watt Mark Levinson audio system. It also has 3 different driving modes which would change various characteristics (suspension, engine ect.) of the car when activated. I wonder how much it would cost nicely optioned...

curious why you were thinking of trading in a year old car?

curious why you were thinking of trading in a year old car?

Two reasons: the jarring ride over awful Central Texas pot-holed roads and a loss of confidence in dealership/service department competence.

Plus-I just wanted to know the $ difference so that everytime my CEL comes on, the AV self-starts, the glove box won't open, and my wife and I go "ugh" on rough roads, I know that I still got a nice vehicle for the cost.

(and yes, I drove the '11 ES350 (not GS as I originally posted) - felt small, cramped, not a huge improvement of ride - but I did prefer the vented seats and nice wood accents. Defintely not a $16k deal!)

ES Lexus does not compare to the Genesis. LS? That's a different story. Not for twice the money though.
My wife really wanted a IS 350. Too small for me and too costly to maintain.

The current GS350 with Navigation will run you 52k, more with options.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
That seems high for V6 with 306 HP.

yeah, I know. But don't look at it from a Hyundai point of view. Look at the overall mktplace and you will see that it's inline for a :
M37. Acura TL is in the low 40k's and is inline with the Genesis V8 in terms of pricing, but it's also a midsize car V6 and hideous. The other option is going upstream to 5 series, ECLass or A6 and you are in the 60k's with options.

May I suggest the 2012 Azera- more appropriate mate to ES350- but likely surpasses in creature comforts.

You really think the Genesis compares with a $110k Lexus LS ? The rides are completely different. What makes you think it compares? Just curious.

You're looking at high 60's low 70's for an LS 460. The 100k version is the hybrid.
The two cars are very similar in terms of their dimensions, wheel base, interior volume, tires sizes, drivetrain layout ,engine displacement. It's pretty obvious what car the Genesis was modeling itself after. Yes the cars ride completely differently, but I think there are more similarities than differences.

OK.. I guess I had to do a self check here and re-examine the luxury factor. I guess I might be swept up in the name brand and looks of the Lexus LS460. Not sure what to make of this discovery here.. LOL.. I just find it hard to compare my Genesis R Spec to a Lexus LS460. Dont take this wrong. I really like my R Spec, but if i had the money Id rather be driving an LS460.

The LS has more of a Luxury feel, but it's not worth 30k. The Genesis is lighter has a much stiffer ride and is more of a drivers car. The Lexus is a nice car, no doubt, but it just depends what you're looking for in a car. Would you rather have a LS or a Genesis and a Optima Turbo too? For most people the answer is pretty clear.

I wasn't meaning to compare the Genesis to the LS. If money was even close I would be driving the LS. Fantastic car. 110K for a car is just stupid. We drove a LS 400 for ten years.
The Genesis is a great car especially for the price.

If I was to pay Six figures for a car, it's going to have a V12, 2 seats, and a Tubi exhaust. Or to match the high end of the LS, then the Quattroporte 4.7
