  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well, I had to say a very sad goodbye this evening to my 2009 Hyundai Genesis 4.6. I found a certified pre-owned 2013 Genesis R-Spec online that caught my eye, and I pulled the trigger tonight. It has 37,000 miles and I paid $1,400 extra for the Hyundai 100,000 mile "wrap" extended warranty, especially to cover costly electronic repairs. The purchase price was $25,900. This R-Spec is fast as hell!

It's platinum metallic (the shimmery silver color) with the requisite black interior. I'm happy to have some new features on this one that weren't available on my '09 (e.g. radar cruise control, auto hold, rear heated seats, updated navigation interface, power folding mirrors, a color display between the speedometer and tachometer, etc.). However, I do miss the wooden steering wheel and the two tone brown dash leather with contrasting black seat leather.

On my drive home, which was 80 miles, I tried to take note of all the pros and cons. I could only find ONE con, and that is the quality of the 17 speaker Lexicon stereo. My '09 had the tech package, and the Lexicon stereo in it sounded much better, much richer, and much clearer than the supposed-to-be-identical 17 speaker Lexicon stereo in this '13. I've read on here that the quality diminished over the years and I have to say, I seriously am PISSED that the sound quality isn't as good. Everything, no matter what song I play, is just way less clear. It's a real shame and almost was a deal breaker for me. Oh well, I guess.

Everything else are pros. Acceleration, steering response, handling, suspension (goes over bumps much more solidly and refined compared to my '09), headlights, and overall put-together feel. All in all, I'm very happy with my new toy. Now I just need to get the windows tinted and re-badge the trunk lid with the Genesis emblem....

Have you tried playing with the settings with the stereo? That's odd it would sound different, I'd expect that it would sound better.

Congrats on the new ride, in a few days could you report how the mpg's are. I wish I would have pulled the trigger on a R-Spec.

Congratulations on your new upgrade.

It is unfortunate that Hyundai 'nuked' the amplifier post mid cycle refresh.

I still have both the 2009 4.6 (for the Mrs) as well as my 2013 R-Spec and the 2009 is still produces far better sound (more balanced, crisp and less 'boomy')
For what it's worth, for me about the closest EQ setting that gets it in line, is boost the high to +4, -3 for mid, -1 for bass setting, with speaker balance 2 towards the rear right. Note: enabling surround appears to amplify the issue further.

But at least now you can stream and control your music using Bluetooth :D

Congrats!!!!

That sux that the audio went down.....
My suggestion, just replace everything with a high end system or speakers....
I have not pulled the trigger on mine because I am actually pleased with the clarity.
I am though going to add some low end to balance out the EQs....

Again, congrats!!!

how many miles was on your 09? I'm at 140k right now and debating if it could go another 60k

My '09 only had 58,000 miles.

Turning off the Surround mode helps improve the dynamic range a bit in my '12, but it still doesn't come close.

I miss my '09's audio system too. It was the best.

Does my 2011 4.6 have the older system or the same as yours? Reason I ask is because my 11' audio seems to be very clear, crisp and loud.

If your '11 was a Tech trim (with DIS knob) then it had the wondrous 17 speaker Lexicon that we're talking about.

Why wouldn't it go 200K? There's already a few on here with about that many miles.

I'm hearing sound coming from the engine, took it in today, dealership had no idea wth it is...they wanted to keep another day to track down the noise. I hope they just replace the engine for me :D but I doubt it.

I have nothing relevant (last car was a 2002 Grand Marquis LSE) to compare to...I personally think the Lexicon 17 speaker is awesome. The 429HP and stereo is what sold me on this fun luxury sedan.

engine start making sound already, the V8 sound more and more like a Mustang rather than a refine V8 under acceleration

Congrats! I don't have a V8 but all the features you mentioned made me get the gen 1.5 over the 2011 model. Mine does have wood on the top of the steering wheel though and black (fake?) leather all over the dash and doors instead of wood, so it just depends which option the original buyer got.

I came from a Maxima with a Bose sound system which I thought was great (compared to most other cars) until I heard the Genesis. I personally love the way it sounds and I can see how some people want more bass but it's more than enough for me. I test drove gen 1s too and I wish I turned up the music but honestly I find that the gen 1.5 sounds amazing already so I'm curious just how much better the first model was and why.

I will say that the gen 2 (I test drove the V8 with all options) sounded noticeably worse especially in the clarity and bass departments...I wonder why the cars get better but the sound does not...

Nice Score. I love mine. I'm a Toyota guy but I said 5 years ago Hyundai will be the next Toyota in 15 years.

Just got back from the track ..... A lil' disappointed with a 13.9 @ 102 but for a stock boat I'm satisfied.
3/4 tank of 87 octane and mid 70 temps.

Maybe a cat-back system and intake are in my future.
