  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2010 V8 Tech with the 5-speed ZF transmission. My car has 31k miles. The dealer just told me they think that the transmission computer is what's been causing error lights intermittently the last few weeks; they are ordering the part. Seems like a major repair--anyone else had transmission computer issues?

None here

Noticed your other post and that you bought your car used. Have you checked the car's paint closely and checked carfax to find out if it has been in an accident? Compare the paint on edges and lower body to a new cars on the lot. should be no over spray, no orange peel, no trash in paint.

I bought it at Carmax. They gave me the carfax, which I checked, but now I'm going to pull it again and look at it, maybe pay for another one myself ($40).

You transmission has 6 forward speeds. The transmission computer is called the mechatronics. This transmission was used in a lot of BMW's and is usually pretty bullet proof. The replacement is pretty easy. You drop the tranny pan, pull out old one put in new one, refill with ATF, bolt back on. I wouldn't worry about this too much. Here is some literature if you care:

Mechatronics Unit Change Over in ZF 6HP26 Transmission ...

Thanks. I just double-checked the carfax myself; no issues reported at all.

Had the mechatronics replaced two weeks ago, didnt solve the problem. My dealer has a brand spanking new transmission on order. You might just tell your service tech to save time and look into replacing that $16,000 gear box. Just sayin. Good luck.

What was your problem? What symptoms did you have before they decided to blame the mechatronics?

In my case, my Genesis was downshifting hard when going from 6th gear at highway speed (75mph) when attempting to.pass. Also, the car would do a hard downshift when coasting to a stop, and hard shift when leaving a stop light between 1st and 2nd gear. Also had a lunge effect if I was coming to a stop but had to continue driving.

Aw shit... just dropped the Rspec off at the dealership for similar problem... the transmission had done a few jarring downshifts over the past few weeks.. and today it did it when going through a merge from 30 to 50mph... rev'd free then bucked down hard.. shot forward and then got stuck in 5th gear... car didnt shift again for about 25 miles to the dealer...

Damn car has 4k miles on it.... I dont need a lemon.

But you have the new R-Spec with Hyundai's own in-house transmission, right? Could be a whole different problem than what I supposedly have. (Still no confirmation that the Mechatronics was the culprit--car still at dealer)

Yes, it's a totally different transmission. Interested to hear what it is...

Case was opened with Hyundai USA, but the car only showed low about 1.5qt's of transmission fluid (seems like a lot to lose in 4k miles)... so they refilled it and reset the transmission program. They were not able to recreate the specific event and the computer showed some transmission slipping, thats it.

If it was that low, I would question if any long-term damage was done to the internals of the transmission.

Maybe consider driving the car another 5,000 miles or so and then go to http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ and request a free oil analysis kit. Then you can send out a sample of your ATF to them for $25 and you get a seriously detailed analysis. I think this would be useful in your case.

Good idea... havent had an issue with the car since I picked it up... but will definitely look into having an analysis done on the ATF.

You may not have any problems in the future, but it would sure be piece of mind to have the analysis data at your fingertips in case the rare problem happens. If you would like to see an example I have a thread you can check out.

Update: the dealer finally gave me my car back Tuesday, having replaced the Mechatronics and the head unit (again). All that is working now. He said there's actually a campaign out for the Mechatronics, not specific to Hyundai but to that part for any make of car, of certain years.

Also, as I was about to drive away from the service bay, the limit switch that moves the driver's seat back broke, literally in front of the shop foreman. So I get to go back in Friday for them to replace that, after the car being in the shop for 16 days this month. I'm starting to worry about the warranty expiring. On a Hyundai.
