  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey all,

I have a weird problem and was hoping others could help.

When i am in gear (most apparent in gears 1,2, less apparent in higher gears) and calling for full power, the transmission feels like it is slipping and catching as the rpms rise.

For example, if i need to pass and i floor it, the trans will downshift and start to pull (love that 5.0L btw). at random spots in the rpm range, it will feel like there is a momentary reduction in acceleration, then an instant later it would sort of grab again. it may do this 2-5 times in the same gear up to redline.
It feels like the torque converter is unlocking and locking again, or a band in the trans is slipping and catching.

it is repeatable, and can be made to happen at any road speed. its most apparent in lower gears because it hits harder, but may happen in higher gears too, just wont feel it as much.

the car has 66,700 km on it. there are no codes or CELs, and my OBD reader does not show any misfires or other issues. it does seem to happen at large throttle openings, when calling for lots of power (though doesnt have to be wide open throttle to happen, just need to call for passing/merge power).

Any help, insight, or stories of similar are appreciated. Thanks!

Did you changed transmission fluid?
If you floor the acceleration very hard you need to change the transmission fluid every 35K
just go with AMSOIL to see if it can help

Based on ThirstForSpeed's post, I hope either you're the original owner and have less than 100k miles on the car in order to be covered by the powertrain warranty, or if you're the second owner, you have less than 60,000 miles on the clock or an extended warranty.

for further context, i bought it Genesis Certified (i think im the 3rd owner, but the second owner was the dealership, who used it as a loaner). i had just under 73K (kms) on it when the trans was replaced.
Genesis Certified warranty was 1yr, 20,000 kms powertrain only.

My '18 3.3 TT AWD G90 was also a Certified Pre-owned car.

In the US, the CPO actually extends your bumper-to-bumper warranty an additional year (from 5 years to 6 years) and 12,000 additional miles (from 60,000 to 72,000 miles).

The first owner of a Genesis vehicle enjoys a 10 year/ 100,000 mile powertrain warranty (which of course includes the transmission), but anyone who buys a non-CPO used Genesis will get the powertrain warranty reduced to 5 years/60,000 miles from the date the car was first put in service.

The CPO certification (redundant?) reinstates the powertrain warranty back to 10 years or 100,000 miles for subsequent owners.

My advice for anyone shopping for a used Genesis is to hold out for a CPO, or fork out a couple of grand to have the dealer add it. It's way better than any 3rd party extended warranty IMO.
