  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I noticed a while back when I'm closing my trunk that about 1/4 to maybe half way through closing it, if I let go it will slam shut hard. Then the other day my wife opened and closed it for the first time and it scared the crap out of her because it closes so hard. My wife has an '09 Sonata and you have to keep pressing down on her trunk to close it and if we let go of it, it will kind of spring up on its own.

I got to thinking that I'd really hate to have my nieces or nephews little hands down there and have the trunk lid accidentally slip out of my hands and slam closed. Even adult hands wouldn't fair very well.

And so I have to ask whether or not the trunk on these coupes naturally close real hard or do I maybe have a trunk strut issue? The car only has 6600 miles on it so I can't believe the strut is bad. I do have the wing on it but it can't weigh that much.

Apparently it's a blown strut as the dealer said it's not supposed to slam shut like that.

yea ditto...mine doesnt do that...it springs back up...or just sits there until it is pressed down shut...

I've got a 2012 Genesis sedan and the trunk closes very hard. The dealer wants to keep it over night and you know what that means. Does anyone also have the same problem and have a fix?
