  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Trunk Release - Rubber torn

My 2915 developed this issue about 3 months ago, I just slapped a piece of 3/4 inch wide electrical tape over the cracked soft fascia and works just like original.
Mine spontaneously dissolved when I took a trip out to West Texas (desert). I read someone here on the forum used a rubber bike innertube patch on it....

That was me but it didn’t last. I broke down and had the dealer do it eventually. It is a DIY, with the only difficult part getting that camera block out.

Yes a mild pita but doable as a diy to replace the rubber switch and salvage the camera. Just do it.

I have completed two of these. You must remove the entire top trunk liner. The trick is to pry off the six steel spring clips with a small flat blade screwdriver. With no retainer clips in the way, the switch asm will push straight out. The new switch comes with new clips. Transfer the camera to the new switch. Coat the trunk socket and the new switch edges with silicone lube, and methodically squeeze the new switch into the port. Then put the liner back on.

I did this today. The process was relatively straightforward. The only way I could get the old switch / camera assembly out was to pop off the metal retaining clips. With 5 of them removed, the switch was still extremely reluctant to come out. I was able to very *carefully* pry it out a bit from the outside to get it going. Once I did that, the rest went quickly. Thanks to all who’ve provided instructions and tips!

One of those annoying little clips fell into the trunk lid and tinkles when it closes!
Mom says "Don't do what I do, just do as I say!" Next time I do this, I will count the clips, and secure all loose wires. Perhaps a few potholes will bounce it into a position where it will remain quiet.

As Maxwell Smart would say "Missed it by that much".
I similarly dropped one of the air filter cover clips down onto the under panels and cannot fish it out. Not critical but what a pita.

just did this today but took about 30-40min mostly due to first time. pretty straightforward otherwise.

removing the trunk lid liner

1. remove 2 plastic clips from plastic arm trim on each side by pushing the pin in the middle (don't push all the way or it might fall in) no need to remove the trim as it will just slide down into the housing.
2. remove one screw from the emergency flag holder and pop out the holder.
3. remove one screw from the closing handle. (recessed inside the handle)
4. remove rest of the clips that surround the liner and liner should drop down.

removing the handle was bit difficult since its wedged in there tight using 6 metal tabs. idea is to push the assembly outward so that it comes out the license plate side.

1. unplug cable for backup camera.
2. using a flathead screwdriver, remove 4 tabs (2 side, 2 bottom). don't worry about destroying them since new assembly comes with tabs.
3. push the assembly outward. it is still held in with 2 tabs up top so it may need some force/maneuvering but will eventually come loose.
4. move camera from old to new assembly then reinstall and connect the cable.

replace all fasteners and it should now be good to go for few more years.
Just got done replacing the handle assembly. Great instructions. Only problem I have is the right side trunk arm cover won’t slide all the way up. It seems like it is caught on something. I can get to about an inch of where the holes would line up with a lot of force. Left side slid right up and lined up. Any suggestions?

North Georgia has a new Hyundai dealership in Gainesville. I delivered three of my Gennies to the service department for the recent recalls. Their mechanics seemed competent. They suggested that I buy a set of Hankook from them for only $1K. They volunteered to true the rear rotors and replace the rear pads for $400 as well. I said, "Thank you, I will consider your offer."

As I was leaving there today, I swapped out the trunk stuff from one to the other. As I pressed the rubber cover, I felt the cracked rubber.
Sure enough, it is time for my third round at replacing the switch. It will take a couple of days to get another switch, but I will let you know what I run into on the trunk arm cover. I recall it took a bit of wiggle to position it the last time I did this in November.

After a lot of tries the arm cover finally snapped into place. Don’t know why. We just got home from church so it may have been Divine Intervention!! All is good now and saved about $250.

The eBay instructions posted in #39 by @danenzmann worked great for me, they seemed very clear, complete and accurate. If I were to do it again, I would try to release the rearmost (topmost) clips first, then the sides and lastly the front/bottom clips.

The rubber cover on my old 2015 rotted out a couple of years ago. One of many issues that convinced me to trade my car in.
