In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Trunk Release - Rubber torn

Would you have any instructions on how to do this ?

when I had to do it on my wife's Camry I had to remove the liner on the inside of the trunk lid, and the bolts that hold it in are inside some access holes.

1/4" ratchet and a 10mm socket. fit and it was easy to do, took about 10 minutes.

Looking at the inside of the G80 trunk, it appears to be designed the same way, have to pop off the lid liner, and reach in from behind the area with a small ratchet.

Ok
Thanks much

I just bought a used 15 Genesis 5.0. Did not notice this issue until a few days after purchase. Dealer is quoting $800 for parts plus labor to repair, and says not a warranty item (is this not between the bumpers as in "bumper to bumper" warranty???) . After some pushback, dealer is contacting Hyundai to see it they will cover it as a goodwill gesture. FYI - apparently the central locking system is also not covered.
$800 run, rip off

The part number of trunk release handle is 81260B10104X. Mine was replaced and it took about 30 mins.
The hardest part of job is to take the handle out cause it is secured by 6 taps. You may need 2~3 small flat screw drivers to put the taps down.

So it is covered under the five year warranty. What about under an extended warranty like the HPP Platinum?

just did this today but took about 30-40min mostly due to first time. pretty straightforward otherwise.

removing the trunk lid liner

1. remove 2 plastic clips from plastic arm trim on each side by pushing the pin in the middle (don't push all the way or it might fall in) no need to remove the trim as it will just slide down into the housing.
2. remove one screw from the emergency flag holder and pop out the holder.
3. remove one screw from the closing handle. (recessed inside the handle)
4. remove rest of the clips that surround the liner and liner should drop down.

removing the handle was bit difficult since its wedged in there tight using 6 metal tabs. idea is to push the assembly outward so that it comes out the license plate side.

1. unplug cable for backup camera.
2. using a flathead screwdriver, remove 4 tabs (2 side, 2 bottom). don't worry about destroying them since new assembly comes with tabs.
3. push the assembly outward. it is still held in with 2 tabs up top so it may need some force/maneuvering but will eventually come loose.
4. move camera from old to new assembly then reinstall and connect the cable.

replace all fasteners and it should now be good to go for few more years.

A dealer quoting $800 and also replacing the backup camera is simply a gouge.
See this post above for instructions: Trunk Release - Rubber torn

Our 2015 sedan rubber trunk latch cover just cracked and I purchased a new one on ebay for $39. part 81260B-1010-4X.

Good instructions - I am writing this after just installing my new replacement trunk handle. My 2 cents worth:

1. I actually thought that I had ordered a "rubber replacement cover" for the trunk release. For anyone who . might think the same as me (scary thought), what you get is the entire plastic rectangular latch unit / camera mount.
2. I second the suggestion that you remove the metal tabs any way that you can - the new part comes with new ones.
3. The old unit won't just slip out after the metal tabs are removed - it took a lot of "persuasion" to get mine out and I came close to breaking the plastic piece it is mounted in. Take care here.
4. Next time I'll wear gloves - lots of sharp edges on the sheet metal.

Yes, great instructions.

Although I bought the part last September, I just replaced it yesterday May 18. The hardest part was forcing the bracket out of the hole after the bottom and side metal tabs were removed. The end of the bracket with the camera was in very tight and would not budge, so I unscrewed the camera first (4 tiny screws) which loosened up the bracket and it popped out with significant force. The top two metal tabs popped out and one disappeared into the trunk lid (oops). The whole operation took under an hour.

I suspect the "official" procedures to replace this part calls for removing the rear trunk lid panel and tailgate garnish, which is more involved, but may provide clearer access to the bracket and removal with less force.

My 2915 developed this issue about 3 months ago, I just slapped a piece of 3/4 inch wide electrical tape over the cracked soft fascia and works just like original.

Sorry-2015 Genesis, of course.

Thank You SideWinder1, You have very good instructions. If you don't mind, I've also made some instructions with pictures in case someone needs them. The Handle cost is about $25.00 to $27.00 on EBay without the camera. With the camera, it's $210+. I apologize, when opening the below PDF, it may download the PDF onto your device instead of just displaying it.

You have to appreciate the fact that the seller provided some info about the installation, but IMO, the instructions provided by others on this thread explain the job better. Then again, if six different people explain it six different ways, maybe one of the versions will be the one that works for a particular person.
