  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Trunk Wings

That is not a part number, just a description. There have been different wings depending on model years, or edition, that could have same description but different part numbers, and be different parts. Even if it is the same size, some wings were dark chrome, and some regular chrome.

I understand this. Im not entirely sure why you are being critical of my post. I'm not arguing with you at all. The part number is actually blurred out by the seller for some reason. All I am doing is trying to confirm with acecert that this is the part that he received as I have ordered this part and an awaiting its arrival. It would benefit me to know in advance whether I'll be needing to modify it prior to installation. That's all.

Also, didn't the shape of the emblem change slightly between the first and second generation?

Furthermore how likely is it that there are multiple different size plain chrome trunk wings for the 2G KDM Genesis?

So sad that what is so apparent to others you cannot see.

Very foolish.
Please answer my question (repeated below), instead of hurling personal attacks in violation of forum rules:

What exactly is the conformation you are waiting for? acecert already posted that the 2015 wings he got from a Korea Parts importer had posts on them that did not match the USA trunk holes and he had to grind them off. We are familiar with that process, because those who installed Korean wings on their hood for 2009-2014 Genesis had to grind the post off also, since the USA version of the Genesis in 2009-2014 had no holes in the hood (had no H or wing emblem).

When/where did I criticize your post? Maybe you thought my other posts were about you, but they were not.

Yes, the 2015 trunk wing is wider than 2009-2014.

I understand what you are trying to do, but not sure if you can do that without the part number. The description is correct, but can apply to the 2009-2014 trunk wings or 2015 trunk wings, and we know they are different sizes. There has also been a black chrome wing, which I only mention because that picture looks like it may one of those, instead of the bright chrome ones. I think the Prada edition had black chrome wings, and maybe some others for 2015.

Make sure you remember that next time you feel inclined to post "Any uninformed person.... and doesn't know what they are talking about"

Your question has been dealt with prior.

Since I am quite sure you don't think you are uninformed, and I am sure you think you know what your are talking about, why do you think I am talking about you? There are lots of other people spreading fake wing hysteria on this forum, which is amazing since the real wings probably are being purchased in Korea for about $5 each in bulk quantities from Hyundai dealers in Korea. It's a piece of chrome-plated plastic (or something that looks like chrome).

I disagree that you answered the question. I don't believe that you did. Don't you believe Acecert?

Wow, you really do believe your clever don't you??

Your statements are becoming so ridiculous you have not only have convinced readers your a fool, but your petulance is astonishing... continual ranting and wanting the last say like a spoil child stamping his feet because he can't get his own way.

I guess at least you provide us with some mirth and comic relief.

The thing I am most amazed about, is that people who are willing to pay near MSRP (and some above MSRP) for 2015 Genesis that sells for $40-$55K, and that the 2014 version is selling for about $10K less than MSRP (even a year ago they were selling for $4K off MSRP on a routine basis) are worried about getting ripped off by a counterfeit $25 plastic rear wing.

I received my 2015 genesis trunk badge 2 weeks ago. It appears to be a genuine Hyundai korean part with the hologram sticker Hyundai uses on their parts. The posts are 4.5 inches apart, the same width as was described earlier in this thread.

I'll let you guys know as soon as mine arrives. I plan to install it myself.

Would be appreciated if you could take a photo after you remove the 'H' badge, so we can see clearly the hole placement.

And if you could measure the distance that would be magic.. cheers :)

Be nice to finally have the evidence supporting the 2015 badge debate.

Who's worried? :D I'm just trying to confirm that the one I ordered from eBay is the same as the original poster's piece.

All will be much clearer soon as more of us receive them and attempt to install them. ;)

I wasn't talking about you.

I am really trying to understand this. What is the debate?

Also, Acesert already measured the 2015 wing posts and said they are wider then the existing holes, so the posts have to be removed. He even provided pictures of the new badge installed on his 2015:

Here's the scoop. Mark is correct, the wings are original KDM and the holes in the trunk differ from the Korean market vs the North American market and therefor require the installer to shave off the posts. We already determined this on another post with measurements and now it is official after the first install.

Just to stir the pot a little, we all know the older style wings which are narrower, fit the alignment holes of the flying H badge when removed as this was the case on the first generation. If you absolutely want your pins, you could very well go that route. I am quite sure some dealers will even order the wrong wings and install on the rear and most would not notice the different style.

Great news.

Post the pic of the 2015 rear with the H badge removed, and a ruler shot so we can all see the spacing of the holes.

Looking forward to your pics...

May take some time as they have not found my color combo yet. ;)

Do you really believe that the factory in Korea makes two identical boot lids, but goes to the expense and trouble of remachining/retooling everything to place two badge holes at different spacing just because it is going to the US market??

Like I said, personally I will await an independent second opinion (not from a dealer).
Apparently you are from Australia, founded as a British penal colony. So I am not sure what you mean by "boot lid". But here are some interesting facts:

  • For 2009-2014 the Korean Domestic Market version (KDM) of the hood (above the engine) had two holes for the wings on the hood. The USA hood did not have any holes since it had no emblem on the hood (no wings, no H). So there was some difference in the manufacturing/tooling, even though it was only some holes that needed to be drilled.
  • For 2015 Genesis, the KDM wings on the rear have pegs that are farther apart than the pegs on the H used in the USA version, since the rear 2015 wings are larger than the 2009-2014 wings. By now, many people have verified that. That means the holes in the trunk for KDM trunk are in different places than the holes for the USA version of the trunk. Not sure about "tooling" since it only involves drilling of holes after the trunk is made, but yes, they are different.
  • Hyundai makes about 4 million vehicles per year. I don't know how many of the have at least one flying H on them, but I am guessing that Hyundai has to make millions of the flying H's each year (some cars have them on front and rear, and also engine covers, etc), so they decided it was easier to make them all with the same peg size and peg width, than it was to customize the Flying H's for the Genesis, just so the KDM Genesis and USA Genesis would have the same hole widths on the trunk, even though the KDM Genesis has wings, and the USA Genesis has a flying H. This standardization of the plastic flying H and its pegs also helps with supplying parts for previous year models for cars that need them.

I think this issue has been put to bed already. Acecert has confirmed the posts on the Hyundai badge he removed are closer than 4.5 inches. I trust him, no photo needed.
