  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Trunk Wings

I think this issue has been put to bed already. Acecert has confirmed the posts on the Hyundai badge he removed are closer than 4.5 inches. I trust him, no photo needed.

I can also confirm what Acecert already said. Had my 5.0 rebadged today. The part comes with two pegs that will not fit into the existing holes.

What about this one? Although it seems that one with the bigger pegs would be the front wing since it's a bigger wing. That kind of sucks to have to take the pegs off, but it is what it is I suppose.

Yes, the one with pegs closer together is for the hood. If the new larger wings are like the old ones, the front hood wing is slightly curved to fit the curve of the hood, and the trunk wing is flat.

Taking off the pegs is easy with a Dremel Tool. Anyone who installed the front wings on a 2009-2014 have had to remove the pegs, and there are many posts about how they did that.

Taking off the pegs isn't the main concern, it's having to make sure it's 100% aligned correctly.

Mine arrived today. It came with a holographic authentication sticker. I've placed a ruler under the pegs for reference.

Perhaps someone should see if the hood emblem will fit the trunk holes without modification.

Motegi, could you also take a couple of shots please of the rear with the 'H' removed, so we can see how far apart the holes are.

Many thanks...

This has been explained before, but here goes again. People who put wings on the hood for 2009-2014 had to do the same type of alignment.

Get some blue painter tape, and form a rectangle with the tape where the wing will fit inside of it, making it just slightly larger than length and width of the wing. Measure the distance of each piece of tape from the edge of sheet metal, existing holes (or whatever) to make sure it is centered and aligned horizontally and vertically. Then place the wing inside the tape boundary, and remove the blue painter tape. If you try this with duct tape, you will seriously regret it.

If for some reason you feel it is not right, you life may be ruined since you will be out another $22.00 for a new wing.

I already told you that the hood wings are slightly curved (to match the curvature of the hood), and the trunk wings are flat (because the trunk sheet metal is flat where the wings go), so even if the holes line up, you will not like it.

Even if you could align the hood posts with the back trunk I don't think you'd like it...it's much too large for that area. I also don't think anyone is going to do anything to convince this group on this thread that the posts on the OEM trunk simply need to be removed. So far, we've heard the part be challenged as OEM, another suggestion that there may be a USA version that fits, and repetitive posts with measurements that have already been done and photos provided. I'm not sure what it's going to take? I posted this thread with the hopes that I could show what the trunk wings look like and hopefully help the group by telling where the holes in the trunk actually are and where the posts are indicating that they then need to be removed. From that has been an flurry of observations that I have to say...I didn't expect. Apparently all the premeasuring and photos I did weren't enough. I'm beginning to wonder what some would say if someone flew to Korea and bought the part themselves in a Hyundai dealership if someone would question it. It's nuts.

Yes it is nuts. Especially since there are about 20,000 other posts dealing with wings on the 2009-2014 model, in which many of the same issues were addressed, especially when putting the wings on the hood (since the US hood had no holes in 2009-2014).

Keep in mind that not all 2015 owners were owners of the prior generation Genesis. So not all of us have been following the saga of badging modifications of the old Genesis...

I will attempt the installation tomorrow.

Was not I that you told. I do see your comment to a different member now however.

I was busy taking photos and uploading them when those posts were written...

I agree, the personal attacks were out of line imho. your trunk wings look great!

So I rebadged the wife's 2015 Genesis trunk lid emblem today and got a photo of the hole spacing with a ruler:

Compare that to the KDM trunk lid "wings" emblem with the same ruler:

Putting the emblem up to the trunk lid with the pegs still attached:

Thank You for finally putting this issue to bed. Funny thing is it looks like the spacing on the Hood emblem would fit the trunk holes. :) The only issue is it's size and curvature.
