In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hi,
I'm in the process of selling my 2010 Evo X and 2006 Evo iX and plan on buying the new body style '15 Genesis R-Spec. I have a few questions since I'd like to lightly mod the car when I get it. What intake/exhaust/performance mods are out there? Granted they most likely won't fit with the new body style I'm just wondering what type of support is out there.

How does tuning the ECU look? I've seen posts about the cars not being tunable, but there has to be a way. I've self tuned my cars and plan on keeping with that. I have friends that own Genesis Coupes that have them tuned. If it comes down to me having to make my own program to tune the car I will.

I appreciate the help and can't wait to pick up my Genesis.

The aftermarket support for sedan is nil. The only performance parts on the market are catbacks and junky coilovers. No intakes, not headers, no ECU tuning.

Thanks for the response. I'll probably end up making a custom exhaust, I want to get rid of all the catalytic convertors. And I can't see myself putting coilovers on the car because part of why I'm coming to the genesis, I want the ride quality.

How isn't there ECU tuning? Is it a lack of people who will tune them or no programs out there? I know they have tuned the Genesis Coupe and Sonata turbos so I don't see why they wouldn't be able to get into the Genesis ECU.

Thanks. I'm not too worried about voiding the warranty, I know enough people at Hyundai to find ways around it. Plus I know how Hyundai checks if the PCM has been flashed or not (hint: they don't have a flash counter :D). I'm looking to help those of us who want a little more performance without sacrificing quality and reliability. Now I won't have a car to work on til Q2 '14 when the '15s are released, but I'll talk with my friends about what software will work.

I believe the Bilstein package for the Genny sedan will be a good thing. Not junky. They do not make anything junky. As a long term customer if theirs with domestic sports cars and trucks, I am a believer. There are posts here from gentlemen from Korea where these are available. And there are ways to get them into the states. They have a coilover package.

I am satisfied with the factory set up and have not yet gone to the Bilstein set up. Will get there one day.

Look up the posts on this matter if you are interested.

There is zero customer base for any company to make any investment in real performance parts. There is no tuning program.

And for the record, speaking for the current R-Specs and not the future ones, the stock suspension sucks on these cars. They are incredibly harsh (much less road friendly than my WRX that has springs with rates twice what came stock) and all road impacts are jarring. The suspension is very slow to react. It's my biggest gripe with this car.

Keep in mind, a lot of newer cars have harder and harder to crack ECU's. I was looking at the IS350 before I bought my Gen and one of the biggest complaints (other than interior space) on their forums was the lack of an ECU tuning device (I believe they just got a 'possible' but nothing concrete. And that car has been out for well over 6 years). Same with the 7th Gen Maxima.

Honestly with the r spec, I'm not sure the engine is leaving much on the table for a tune without some bolt-ons. The biggest gains would be with the traction control (proper ESC off) and transmission shift speed.

^ This.

It is my experience that Hyundai tends to get every drop of HP out of their engines. The helpful thing is letting the engine breathe and fart.

I have a 2012 R-Spec with CAI, Rear Cat Deletes, and Magnaflow X-Pipe with Resonators removed. GForce Chip also but the ECU Chip was a waste of money. I to am looking to gain more HP....I was told today the one of the Performance Shops here in NC just did one for one of the Nascar Drivers installed a Supercharger and other upgrades 585hp to the Rear Wheels. I am very interested in finding out more details. I have been put in Contact with the Owner of the Shop and waiting for his reply.

As I understand it's a Ford Block Hyundai is using. Anybody have any info

Ford design.. Intake and heads are not exact what Ford is. They had to change enough on the block, heads and intake to not violate the Ford patents. Mercedes licensed the whole modular engine program from Ford back in the 90s or early 2000. Ford made a humorous commercial about that.

Completely inaccurate. Hyundai spent half a billion dollars developing the TAU engines, including the 5.0. It was developed completely in house. The only thing similiar is the number of liters.

LOL, hope you enjoyed paying $69 for a $.05 resistor in a plastic box. At least you got free shipping, right? I suggest you remove that unless you plan on buying a new engine.

Also something like you example requires a lot more than just a supercharger. You're going to be building an engine that has no off-the-shelf performance parts and the same with the transmission. Nevermind the thousands in other supporting mods. I know someone who makes custom engine internals if that's what you're after, but it's not cheap.

So call around to the performance shops by you and find out what they did.
There is no off-the-shelf supercharger for our engines.
Anything is possible with $$$$$

Maybe someone got their hands on this car. 1-off s/c

Not quite accurate.... They did reverse engineer the Ford design. That is why it only took $500mil to get it done. Ford spent a bunch more than a paltry $500 mil back in the original days of the modular engine rolled out. And they spent more on the second and third gen. I have 32v Ford V8, and amazing how similar many attributes my Tau has. Block, bearing caps, heads, cam chains.... Look, I am not being critical. Just the way it is.

The above reply was to Stang. Hit the wrong post in the phone.

Hahahahahahahaha Hyundai didn't copy Ford. This is one of the world motors along with the Theta. Hyundai was the main contributor.

DRS - again, completely inaccurate. Not sure where you are getting the info from. You should cite your sources instead of blasting the forum with bad info.

BTW the Hyundai 5.0 liter is a GDI (direct-injected) which is how it produces about 20 more HP with the same displacement. And it costs a lot less to reverse engineer an engine than it does to develop it in-house, which is what Hyundai did.

"About 100 engineers were involved in the clean-sheet design, which took 48 months to develop at a cost of 260 billion won, according to Hyundai."

With a good fab guy getting a supercharger to work with motor is the lease of your worries. Headers, exhaust...are in the same boat. Getting engine internals are also easy. My 12' 5.0 is stock because of the ECU. Once the ECU problem is taken care of the rest will fall into place!
