  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

OK, so I was driving around tonight and all of a sudden my car stopped producing boost. So I looked at my fuel gauge and it read i had a 1/4 tank left. I remembered my dealer telling me the turbo will stop producing boost when that happens. So I went to fill up my car all the way to full and now I got boost back again.

But later on in the night, I took a friend for a ride and opened the car up a bit and I had boost. But later on in the drive the boost stopped again and no turbo spool whatsoever.

Could it be the turbo was overheating and its shutting itself off to cool down? It was pretty hot out tonight in my city and this has never happened before. Later on in the night after my car had been off for over an hour I had boost again and its been on ever since.

WTH is going on with the turbo or ECU? Is this normal?

wow that's gotta be the dumbest feature ever.... to not have boost when you hit 1/4 tank of gas.... umm only thing i can think of is the ecu having some sort of turbo timer on it to allow oil to pump through it, remember the turbo is still spinning even if your not producing boost just ecu telling it not to allow and boost. so yah i dunno maybe could be a flaw which when hits a 1/4 tank of gas the ecu doesn't allow boost i wonder how well it reads how hard your driving to know how long to cool the turbo? i would recommend trying to reproduce it see what happens if it does it twice then we know somethings up on how they programed the ecu

See when I drive and have my window open I can here the turbo spoolin up and of course when I let go of the gas my HKS BOV makes the ever popular loud HKS whistle sound. But when I hit the 1/4 tank no spool sound whatsoever and when the BOV went off, no whistle just the plain air being released (boring sound).

I guess I'll be the guinea pig for this and report back with any info I can gather up. But do try everyone and see if this happens to ur Genesis with the 1/4 tank phenomenon and see if its the same for u guys or its just my car. I would love to hear the results.

1/4 tank left and no boost has to be a load of poop. There HAS to be a problem. Take it to a knowledgeable dealer.

the machanic at the dealer told me and the salesman this and he was right.

Even if it cuts the boost you should hear the turbo whine, its not like its disconnecting it from the exhaust manifold its gotta be spinning, if you feel brave enough take the intake off at a 1/4 tank and make sure the blades are infact spinning.... i dont see them not running at all that spooling sound is just the air compressing. Getting the 2.0 soon.... ill be finding a way to bypass that.. because that's a stupid feature..

Well 1 way would be to have more then a 1/4 tank of gas lol, I just hope one of the supporting vendors finds or a tuner finds a way to bypass "hint" "hint"

It seems the more I drive this car the more I find new dumb things about the ECU/Turbo.

Lastnight I started my car and let it warm up as I do until the RPM needle reaches just below 1000RPM and I also had 1/2 a tank of gas in my car. So as I'm driving home from the store, I noticed the turbo isn't spooling up again. I was driving for a good 15min until I got home, so the car had plenty time to warm up. But later on I started the car again and decided to take alittle drive and all of a sudden the turbo is spooling up again and creating boost! WTH is the ECU doing?

Is anyone experiencing this aswell or is it just my car?

I havent heard of this problem . Our coupe boosts all the time , no fuel or full tank . It sounds to me like your ECM may be sensing a spike in boost, when this happens your waste gate stays open not allowing your turbo to build boost. Hook up a boost gauge to see if your clearing 18PSI , if so , that might be your problem .

Did you turn up the boost some how ? either through waste gate manipulation , or MBC?

I didn't turn up the boost at all but I do have an HKS BOV installed with the right piping and I removed the stock diviter valve and covered up the hole with a diviter plate. The BOV is also located right infront of the throttle body now, where it should be.

Oh if u guys have a boost guage for ur Genesis, where did u end up putting it?
