  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi everyone. Have a 2009 4.6, and have a couple of questions for an owner of a 2015 Ultimate 5.0:

When you use the smart phone app to remotely start the vehicle, is the vehicle immobilized until the key is in close proximity? I would hope so, as a $55,000 car idling in a parking lot with no one nearby might be tempting for a car thief to break the window and try to drive off. I would hope that there is some sort of interlock that prevents this from every occurring.

And, lastly, can the heads up display positioning be adjusted either up or down, right or left, and can the intensity be adjusted?

I have a few more questions, but these two concern me the most, and would be grateful to an owner for their input.

Thanks.

First thing, :welcome: to the Forum. This is a great place to learn all things Genesis.

We just completed a 600+ mile road trip after picking up our new 5.0 Ultimate a last Tuesday. The remote start function works great. The car remains locked until you arrive and unlock the car. The only thing I don't like about it is that they have the flashers on. Hopefully in the future there is an upgrade to the APP that allows the option to turn them off.

The HUD is amazing as well. You can adjust the up & down position only. It is position left of field of vision and is not a distraction. You can adjust the brightness from very dim to extremely bright. You can also program what you want to be shown as well.

When you fire up the car the first thing you will see is the speedo and the two grayed out bars for the Lane Keep Assist (if set-up this way). When you reach 38 mph the LKA will kick in and if there are visible lines on the road they turn white. As you approach a line in the road the bar on that side will start flashing as well as a warning flashes on the 7" screen between the speedo & tach.

With Blind Spot protection on you will also see warning pop up depending on which side of the car the approaching car is on or both if you have a car on each side of you. The cool thing is that the warning(s) shows up on the side of the vertical bar that the car is on (left or right).

When you have the NAV system on all the directional guidance shows up on the HUD as well. You will also see a flashing red car pop up when the Auto Braking System is about to kick in.

When you adjust the sound in the stereo, an icon pops up on the HUD showing you the level of adjustment your making.

Let us know if you have any other questions and welcome aboard this awesome forum.

Alwaysforward is right on. I would add that the vertical HUD adjustment is also tied to the memory feature so you don't have to manually adjust the height each time between two drivers. Feel free to ask all the questions you have. I'd suggest you number them out if possible so they're easier to respond to without a bunch of people quoting them all.

Thanks for the information, I appreciate it.

However, what I'm trying to find out is: I'm aware that the vehicle remains locked from the outside after using remote start, but what I'm trying to determine is whether or not it is driveable should someone break the window after the remote start is activated, without the key in proximity.

If you could find the time, I would greatly appreciate if you could have someone in the car while it is off, and have another person remote start the vehicle from a remote place, and then see if the person in the car can drive it after it is started remotely, without the key in proximity, or in the vehicle.

And, thanks for the information about the Heads Up display.

While I don't know the answer with respect to breaking in, I can tell you that the car is (1) locked and the security system is active and (2) not in a "full run" mode. What I mean by that is that not all the features or on (like radio) until you unlock the car and get in.

Based on that, I suspect someone can NOT drive off without the key if they broke in. Not only that, but the car will shut off at 10 minutes MAX (configurable via the app).

The only risk you truly run, in my opinion, is someone TRYING to steal it versus actually doing it.

My profile doesn't indicate it, but I have a 2009 4.6, and, when you exit with the key, and the engine is running, the car is still operational without the key.

I'm hoping, and trying to determine whether or not Hyundai engineered a transmission or steering wheel interlock that also activates when the car is remotely started, only to be disabled after the key is in the vehicle, after the remote start.

I'm of the belief that an unattended 2015 Ultimate 5.0 with the engine running would be tempting for a car thief to be emboldened to break the window in an attempt to drive off with it, which would be difficult to do with a steering or transmission lock.

Thanks for all replies.

You're speaking about two different things. Starting the car normally and then exiting with the key is different than starting it remotely. The former can be done. The latter I believe cannot be done

Thanks for your input. I'm hoping someone on the boards can confirm your belief.

Thanks again.

I havent tested it on the Genesis, but on my Ford Truck if I remotely start it and try to put it in gear without inserting the key the engine will shut off and the alarm will go off. Im betting that if you try to put the Genesis in gear without the key fob detected all sorts of alarms 'should' go off.

Thanks for your reply.

I'm hoping that someone on the forum can describe definitively what happens when a 2015 Ultimate Package 5.0 does, when remotely started, reference theft deterrence.

Has anyone who owns the 2015 Ultimate Package 5.0 tried this, that is, starting the car remotely with someone sitting inside of it without the key, to see if there's an interlock of the steering or of the transmission, to prevent theft should someone break the window while the car is unattended, and their being able to drive the vehicle without the key?

Thanks again.

Also you have to be within 1 mile of the car to start it from the phone app. Also there is a max time limit of 10 minutes for the car to run then it shuts off.

Which does not fully answer the question. I guess the way to test it would be to leave the car unlocked (or lock it with a window open). Remote start the car, leave key FOB away from car, get in car and see if it drives off.
