  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ultra High Performance Tire Vs. Grand Touring Tire......

I've just parked my '12 r-spec for the winter but will be looking to replace tires come spring when the roads are dry again. Any tire suggestions for (strickly) summer driving? Thx

Nitto Invo - hardest of the bunch
Michelin Pilot Super sport - softest of the bunch
Bridgestone Pole Position - good middle road - I have the A/S version on my 2015 5.0 and love them.

I have the Conti DW on my 550i and the S-04 pole positions on my Genesis. The DW is the more comfortable tire. The S-04 is the grippier, better handling tire.

I have the Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric 2. I just bought the car, 4.6 with 18's a couple of months ago. These tires came on the car. I test drove a v6 at the same time and It rode much smoother. But the tech package and horse power won out. I can say that the Eagles are way too stiff for this car. They handle well but are stiff and twitchy. Although I like the handling and maybe the difference between the v6 and 4.6 was 17 versus 18,. I don't know but I will look for touring tires for my next set.

Pilot Super Sports! phenomenal grip, especially in the wet

Michelin Premier is not available in the size for the Genesis. At least not 235/50/18.
But the Premier A/S is a great tire.
The Primacy MXM4 is available in that size, and has similar capabilities.

I just went to a Discount Tire shop in Plano TX for the 6k miles rotation and balance but I was told "not to bother" due to the tread depth is down to 5/32", meaning I need all 4 new tires either now or very soon. The car is only 17k mile with original tires.
What do you guys recommend, I want quiet and smooth ride tires?
Discount tire guy then told me the only brands his store carries that fit my car are the Conti (oem) and Pirelli (do not remember the model name he told me).
Car is 2013 r-spec, living in N Texas (DFW) area.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Get the Pirelle P7 Plus. Great tires and rated #1 on Tire Rack. Have them on my Genesis and they are smooth and quite.

I got a little over 50,000 miles from my stock Contis with my R-Spec...are you doing burnouts constantly haha?

Choosing tires can be difficult and pretty subjective. The things, tires can make the car.

A good place to start, IMO, is Consumer Reports. I think their recommended H rated tired for a Genesis-class car is Continental - maybe the PureContact or something like that? You should be able to find it in their annual Car issue that came out a few months ago at your local library.

I used the CR recommendation for SUV tires a few years ago and it dramatically improved the handling of our Honda Pilot. I'll be using their recommendation at some point next year for the Genesis after I've worn down these horrible stock MIchelin Energy tires.

Ah, I've found it. For H and V rated performance all season tires:
Michelin Primacy MXV4 (limited sizes, can consider Michelin Premier A/S)
Continental Pure Contact

Not sure where you live but here in the DFW roads you'd be lucky if the tires last half that long.

I'm from the Corpus Christi area. We're not known for our smooth roads. Like I said, I managed ~50,000 miles from my stock Contis.

I now have Bridgestone S-04s on there, which were optional from the factory.

I just replaced my original set of Michelin Energy Saver tires at 46k miles. I figure that given how well they held up I would replace them with the same brand and model. It was not worth the investment in sport tired that would last only 25-30k miles. 2012 5.0 Sedan

I feel just the opposite about my tires. I go thru a set every year, 30-40k miles. The performance that is compromised going to an all season tire IMHO is not worth it. In the Houston area there are only 2 major conditions I have to worry about, dry and monsoon. Summer tires fit the bill perfect.

I currently have a set of Potenza RE760 Sports. I like them a lot except for the fact I can't get them in the perfect size: 265/45-18.

I have replaced the OEM tires on my 2012 r-spec with ultra high performance all season Continental DWS 06. I live in Oklahoma and we have all types of weather and I did not want to have to deal with different sets of tires. I'll keep you posted in the long run but so far the grip is excellent in curvy roads. We are supposed to get some rain this upcoming week and I'm hoping it will perform well. The OEM did not do too well on the rain.

Replaced my wife's '13 3.8 SP Dunlops (sorry tire) w/Conti true contact - highly rated as to ride, perf., quietness, still a very noisy car & she is complaining bout a "hum" with these tires, Hyundai serv mgr says they are "hard tires" & that is the noise?? I have a "case number outstanding with customer "no serv" in Calif & they only gave me the toll free number of Continental tire !!!!"
