  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Uneven gaps in fuel door, complain or accept?

I recently bought a new 2013 Genesis 3.8. I noticed that the gaps in the fuel door are uneven as shown. "Par for the course" and accept, or complain to dealer? Doesn't really seem like an easy adjustment and its not a big deal to me. Just checking what others think.

All in all, I'm generally quite pleased with the car. Biggest drawback is that the 8-speed tranny downshifts way too slow and therefore kills some sportiness, but I knew that from test drives (can't have it all when I only paid $24,500 for the car sold as new). Besides the fuel door, other slight annoyance is rain drops falling in the trunk!

IMO, that's pretty minor. I'd wait till 11 months and have them look at all the adjustments at once instead of nit picking little things one by one.

I would tell them about it now, or else they might think you did something to the fuel door to knock it out of whack later on. Unless you want to try and fix it yourself by adjusting/bending the hinges.

Its plastic, and I highly doubt it can be adjusted. Every one I've looked at looks like that. I used to work in qc at Toyota, so my eyes are trained to follow body gaps as compare eveness, and consistency. The Genesis hood is also not great, gaps are often off, with bigger gaps near the front of the car. But it's consistent amongst all the gennys I looked at. My opinion is accept it and ignore it.

Open the trunk only half-way, and let the water drain down the channels on each side of the trunk for a couple seconds, *then* open it all the way. Helps keep the trunk dry.

I got the Hyundai Genesis cargo tray to keep the water drips out of the spare tire area.
Not quite as good as the Weathertech tray, but $40 cheaper.

Good advice. After letting it drain, I sometimes also use a microfiber cloth that I keep in my trunk to wipe off the rim of trunk lid.

If you notice the gap widens on the hinge side of the door. It is this way on all 2012-2014. If you open the door slowly you'll see this is by design .

Just wait a bit longer to complain. You'll have a real list in a few months and then you won't waste a trip to the dealer.
