Have you guys done any unplanned races, whether it be from the street light or on the highway, specifically vs another luxury vehicle or any full size worth giving a race ? If so what cars have you raced if you can remember? Did you feel like you won. Just nice to hear your experiences. If you have the 3.8 L specifically what would you rate its performance from 1-10 ? #3.8/3.3/5.0.

Naw no planned or unplanned races; I'm bumping 90 on the calendar and time is going fast enough for this ol soul. I climb on the concrete conveyor belt, set the speed to what's on the signs and go. No hurry to get to my last stop.

Actual race? Been many years. Last time I really surprised anyone was a Camaro that cut in front of me to get on the highway. I was also going that way and kept right behind him on a long ramp and passed him one we got to the road. Happened to be in a section where I never see cops so I went to triple digits. Slowed after crossing the state line and closing in on a spot where state police often sit.

That was with my Sonata 2.0T

Well, I have many unplanned races to merge on to the highway on a couple roads I use to commute to work at night. Perfect, because I can go 0-60mph when the stop light turns green without the cops busting me for aggressive driving.

With that being said, my 2015 5.0 have dusted many different luxury cars from BMW 5 and 7 series,Mercedes E and S classes, Volvos, Dodge Chargers/Challengers R/T, any V6 powered car. Most of the quick modern turbo powered cars need launch control to get the best times and many of the cars I bested probably did not use it and was only just pressing the gas pedal. V8 cars usually just spin the tires hence why I bested most of the Dodges at the light.

And yes, many of the other cars was trying to pass me on the merge because I would slow down at about 70mph on the highway and they usually keep going until they pass me by.

The 5.0 rates a 10 on the speed scale, specially with a Sprint Booster like I have on my 5.0. I beat all those cars while still in ECO mode with my Sprint Booster engaged which gives me the best acceleration from a standstill without spinning my tires.:)

The only cars I lost to at the merge light was a Lexus GS-F 5.0 sedan and a C7 Corvette, but I was close behind them to 70 mph before I dropped back.

I understand Sir. Our cars are wonderful cruisers that the need to go fast isnt really need it feels such like a car you just drive very conservatively at times!

Wow you have beaten most of the popular cars on the road. You raced an S class ? Typically s class owners don’t accelerate as hard from a dead stop so that must have been interesting. The chargers/chally RT arent that fast . I expect the 5.0 beast to take care of business. I wonder how a charger Scatpack will mash up with a 5.0 , hmm. Youve taken a 7 series ? That’s impressive . You are right turbo charged car requires a proper launch control to get best times. You havent unplanned race a infiniti q50 ? The GS-F is lexus top of the line car with its monster v8 im sure you didnt get beat that bad off the line.
With the sprint booster since you have it in eco mode do you see a difference in fuel savings ? 5.0 is a beast i would like to test drive to feed my curiosity. I can see why some ppl wants to go from the 3.8 L to the 5.0. I know you have sport + that must be crazy in acceleration.

The sonata 2.0 are very underrated due to its curb weight. The camaro was probably a v6 those engine arent that quick really.

You will be amazed at what type of drivers that will gun it to merge on the highway at the light. I have had Prius owners floor it at the light, no lie.:)

However, some owners do not floor it as well including sport car drivers. You never know really until the light turns green.

But, yeah a few large luxury boat(S and 7 series) drivers will floor it to merge. Hell, I would if I owned a twin turbo V8.

I am sure that some of the cars that I have beaten to merge would kill me on dragstrip with the launch control engaged, however on the street they underestimate the Genesis and see an easy pass. When they see my car rear end and the 5.0 badge; it is too late and the race is over. Surprise has been my secret weapon most of the time.:)

I do love the Lexus GS F, very fast sleeper as well.

The 2015 Genesis 5.0 only have Sport, not a Sport+ mode. I average 21 mpg with the car in ECO mode and with the Sprint Booster engaged in the Race 9 setting. I always keep the Sprint Booster turned on and the car in ECO mode. I only select Sport mode to have some fun on curvy roads. I will just get a lot of wheel spin if I tried to just mash the pedal from a stand still in Sport mode with the Sprint Booster engaged and it is very hard to moderate the gas pedal in traffic in Sport mode with the Sprint Booster engaged. Best to use Sport mode and the Sprint Booster on the open road.

Note: Most Scat pack owners only can do a 0-60mph pass in about 5 seconds due to traction issues on the street. So I bet the race would be equal or in my favor. HP means nothing in a race if you cannot put it to the ground without spinning the tires.

Have you driven an electric car? I know a guy with a Leaf that likes to blow away people at a light. I drove a Bolt and was surprised at the acceleration. Keep in mind they are not going to win a quarter mile drag, but the 0 - 15 time is fantastic.

The 2011-2015 Hyundai/KIA 2.0T engines are a beast. My old 2014 KIA Optima SXL with the 2.0T was crazy quick with just a few mods including colder Mitsubishi Lance EVO 2.0T spark plugs. Gave most older 268-300hp V6 engines a hard time.

All the Optima really needed was a UR strut bar to keep the front tires on the ground to hook up properly and it was a great performer. Not as fast as my Genesis, but respectable on highway merges.

Never driven one.
However, electric cars do have instant torque off the line, so I believe you. LOL, I have seem some Nissan Leaf cars fly by on the highway like they have a Porsche.:)

How do you feel about the the 2021 generation not making a v8 platform ? Makes you want to keep your car as long as possible . Cars have gotten to 500k to a million. So theres that.
I was assuming the sprint booster has sport + not the car having it. Im aware its only 3 drive modes.
You right if you cant put the power down properly then nothing to brag much about . I have the 3.8 and the natural 4s , even the turbo 4s like an e300, the 3 series idk about (new ones ) and some old v6 powered cars. Its either were equal or im taking off far. I think the 3.8 L can hang with the charger RT. Definitely not the scatpack. Pretty much im faster than any 4 banger , turbo 4s especially from a roll. They might beat me off the lune due to light curb weight depending really. Sometimes it has to do with the driver as well. Definitely faster than charger v6

They really don't have a choice. Welcome to the future.
The Safer Affordable Fuel-Efficient (SAFE) Vehicles Rule, issued today by NHTSA and EPA, sets tough but feasible fuel economy and carbon dioxide standards that increase 1.5% in stringency each year from model years 2021 through 2026.

You'd probably want to think twice about looking for a current or even a previous gen 3 Series 4 banger for an impromptu race. They are deceptively quick.

On a roll from lets say 60-100mph or more , the g80 3.8 L should do better in that category. From a dig from 0-60 mph the 3 series may get to 60 faster only because of its curb weight. No less than a half a car length on the g80 3.8 L. The 3 series has more torque but the g80 3.8 L has more horsepower, if im not mistaken horsepower is more valuable.

Another example the madza 6 turbo has 310 lb ft of torque. About 250 horsepower. More torque than the camry v6. Camry v6 has 301 horsepower and about 267lbt ft of torque. Yet the camry v6 is faster overall than madza 6 due to more horspower.

Looking at some C&D information 0-60 the 3 Series was 5.2sec vs. 6.6sec for the G80. In the 1/4 mile it was 13.9sec vs. 15.0sec. Weight is the enemy with the G80 vs. the 3 Series, plus the 2.0t in the BMW is a very good engine.

BMW also has the best 8-speed gearbox from ZF, its shifts are lightning quick and that helps it with accelerating. Having driven the G80 3.8, its transmission is more geared for smooth shifts and that makes it slower on the pedal.

I think the 3.8 is a 6.6 sec 0-60 car, so not too impressive. That's about what I've seen on mine, in my very rough tests using my phone's stopwatch.

The two things I miss the most coming from my 328hp G37 is the speed and radio system. I still want the G80 5.0!

6.6 seconds to 60mph seems a bit in accurate if i must say. Ive seen a video with someone doing to it to about 6.3-6.4 seconds , about early ish 6 seconds. You have to factor in altitude, sea level , driver mod , etc... the car just seem like a mid 6 second car. ill say this G80 performance is between a well refined turbo charged 4 & and a old powered v6. Its not crazy fast but its no means slow in any way possible. If the genesis g80 had aluminum steel, the 3.8 would be much more impressive. And i didnt mean 0-100 from start , i meant if we are both in the highway driving at 60 ish and we just smash on the pedal to 100mph or so i might give it to the g80 due to the higher horsepower of the g80 i feel it will have a upperhand.
But even if both cars started from 0-100mph , would the 3 series win by a landslide or will it barely just beat the 3.8 L ?
Its crazy to think that the even 3.3 L and the 5.0 is barely faster than regular 330i , not the 340i the 330i.. idk if its accurate 5.2 seconds

Did you put it on sportmode ?
