  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Purchased a (new) 2013 Genesis 3.8 with Tech over the weekend. Love it so far.

Question about the Lexicon system. I have my music on a USB stick. I have noticed that the system doesn't play the first 1/2 second of each song. I'm coming from an '11 Acura TL w/Tech and it played the songs fine. I have about 400 songs on at 16GB Sandisk Cruzer Fit.

Anyone else experience this?

I have a 2013 R-Spec which has the same Lexicon sound system as the Tech pkg. I also use a USB stick for my music - I've got a 64 GB stick that's about 75% filled with high bit MP3s.

I do NOT have the problem that you mention.

Thanks for the info. I will continue to play with the settings and see if I can figure it out.

Yes, I have that issue as well. I opened a case with Hyundai, their response is that there will be no updates to the audio system to address it. Other issues you may find with the audio system are:

1)The user interface for the music selection is pretty rough. After navigating into the directories/sub-directories of your music (stored either on USB key or transferred to internal SSD "jukebox") when you use the "up" button to go back up, it will will not let you move back up the directory tree properly, it forces you into the top level directory. Hyundai response to this was to organize your tracks on the thumb drive into alphabetical directories, to "make it easier to find stuff". Truly, that was their response. :>
2) It appears that the system has no ability to recognize audio track numbers, and reorganizes tracks within a directory only alphabetically. The result is that songs do not play in the proper order. The same USB drive playing on a PC works fine, since the PC recognizes the track number. Really annoying.
3) I cannot find any way of getting play lists to transfer, nor any way of creating play lists.

Thanks for confirming what I'm seeing (hearing). It's not a huge deal, but some of my songs start the music right away, and it misses a beat or two. Others I can't tell because the audio starts at about the 1 second mark.

Anyhow, I'm coming from an '11 TL w/Tech. The responsiveness of the Nav/Audio in the Genesis is leaps and bounds faster than the TL. I would literally watch the song list populate on the TL (something they somewhat addressed in '12, but still no where near as fast as the Genesis). I'm getting used to the interface and starting to like it a lot.

I don't use play lists - I order my songs by filename or folder. But doing just that (at least on the TL) wasn't good enough to get the songs (or folders) in the right order. Something to do with the way FAT32 and ordering works. I also use DriveSort (http://www.anerty.net/software/file/DriveSort/), sort the way I want, and save. Magic.

Craig, I just got a 2016 Genesis ultimate with the exact same problem on Jukebox songs. 1/2 second of song is clipped,at start. Did you ever find a solution?

I have had this issue with my 2013 for as long as I have owned it. I don't use a USB flash drive, however. I use an iPod and I still see the clipped start of music. Sloppy programming.

Most Hyundai Audio systems clip ipod music when manually advancing songs too. My 2011 Sonata did that, and so did my '13 Azera. My 2015 Genesis is much better in this regard, but not perfect. It's still clips a small fraction of the start on some songs.

I had inquired to Hyundai about this when I had the Sonata. They said it was by design to protect the speakers from transients. I am not sure that made much sense, but IIRC there may have been a reference to that in one of my owner's guides on the Sonata.

I have not experienced the clipping when letting the songs auto advance, just when manually advancing to the next song.

I started a topic here and it needs to be moved to this sub-forum.

SKIPPING:
Skipping is almost always caused by album art inserted into the file tag, and it is a problem on virtually all firmware based playback systems with limited processing. If some of the art data gets streamed into the decoder and then to the DAC, a nasty transient gets sent to the amplifier and speakers. Many systems now skip the tag by default, but just seeking past the embedded jpeg can cause delay problems.

PCs have enough horsepower and memory to bruteforce this without any issues.

SORTING:
What people have been doing for the last 4-5 years to deal with sorting is to have file names start with the track number, like:

01 - Beautiful Dreamer.mp3
02 - Oh Susanna.mp3

etc. This requires that each album have a separate directory. A file usually named "cover.jpg" or "folder.jpg" added to the album folder allows an intelligent player to display the art without the overhead of having it in each file.

Nowadays, the smart online music shopper is buying FLAC lossless files from bandcamp or ALAC lossless files from Apple, playing these as is on their home systems, and converting them to 320 kbps MP3 using foobar2000 and LAME for their car.

In audio, the source is everything. Nothing down the chain to the speakers can fix a bad source. You must roll your own MP3 files to gain the control needed.
