  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Use of Tesla Superchargers

Any thought on what options are available for folks who purchased their GV60 after January? It seems weird to me that the adapter is only offered for cars purchased prior to January 31... I have the same car and the same charging needs, but my car was purchased two months later.

My guess is the “approved” adapter will be for sale to you.

My guess is that it will be included in the sale just as the H2L adapter is included.

For the ones that have already used the Tesla app to charge....
How does it work when you put in your credit card?
1) Does the app charge a fee immediately like $XX to hold in your account like EA? (EA charges your card $10 upon registration. When you use a charger it depletes your account until you reach $5 and then the app reloads $10 from your CC. It cycles between $5 and $15 until your session completes. The remainder stays in your EA account until the next charge session.)
OR...
2) Does the app just charge the full amount upon completion of the charging session?
3) Some other way?

From Tesla’s TOU (excerpt):

Pay Per Use — Supercharger. …

Non-Tesla vehicles may access the Supercharger network on a pay per use basis. Supercharger stations that are available to non-Tesla vehicles are indicated in the Tesla app, and may not include all locations. In order to charge a non-Tesla vehicle you must download the Tesla app and create a Tesla Account. You must then store a valid payment method in your Tesla Account, which will be used for all one-time or recurring payments, and agree to these Payment Terms. We will place a temporary payment authorization hold on your payment method at the start of each charge session, and will release the authorization when your charge session is complete and successfully paid.

I recently used a Super Charger with the magic dock adapter. My Tesla app is configured with Apple Pay and I was charged after the session completed.

Curious - how'd you set it up with Apple Pay? My newly-installed iPhone Tesla app will only accept an entered card number.

I take it back. I could have sworn I saw Apple Pay when I used it this weekend, but I just checked and it’s only showing a credit card.

I'm very curious to see for those of you who start charging right away and don't wait for the approved adapter - how does the positioning of the charge port on the GV60 work in terms of blocking stalls at Tesla sites? It seems like you will have to block two spaces because the GV60 port is on the opposite side of the Tesla port and the cables for the overwhelming majority of Tesla sites won't reach.

Please post pictures if you can.

It seems we do not we have access to ALL Tesla superchargers. Even after toggling vehicles and filters my local Tesla station does not show up in the app.

That is correct. Only v3 and v4 (future) chargers will be supported.

That was my first guess! Why do you think Tesla decided to exclude gen2 Superchargers? Because their slower speed isn’t a good match? Because they wanted to reserve some exclusivity to Tesla owners…?

Just a guess, but maybe incompatibility with our 800-volt platform?

Found this post on Reddit:

"CCS cars will only be able to use V3/V4 Superchargers, not V2 or certain other relatively uncommon types in some urban areas. (Forget what they're called... There are a bunch in NYC apparently though.) The issue with the V2 (and these others) is the communications protocol used, not the plug. V3/V4 use CCS's communications protocol, which makes them easy to use with a passive adapter once Tesla turns them on for the brand car."

Tesla has provided an FAQ on this topic. See attached…

The problem is that they use a misleading graphic that will almost never be the case. It is invariable that when you enter a SC station there will be existing cars parked. I've never seen an empty station. For this "parking over the line" scheme to work, everyone has to coordinate. All of us in here who have owned EVs and have dealt with peoples charging behavior are probably jaded.

Tesla vehicle owners won't naturally park over the line so if you have Tesla vehicles parked in every other spot, you will be blocked out even though there are plenty of chargers available.

This seems like a *hit show waiting to happen.

V3 and V4 Superchargers aren’t “paired” with another pylon, so each pylon can deliver the max charging rate possible regardless of where any other car is positioned.

V2 Superchargers were paired, which meant when 2 cars were charging adjacent to each other, or on 2 paired pylons, the max charge speed was as cut in half. This meant that people tried to charge in alternate positions when possible.

There’s definitely a possibility of blocking 2 stations with a non-Tesla EV, but most of the time, that won’t present any real issue.

And since most Supercharger locations have at least 8 chargers, it will still be a better situation than most of the 4-station EA locations out there.

Actually, not all v3 chargers are included, even though they are all capable of supporting CCS vehicles. Some v3 chargers are not included simply because Tesla decided to keep them for Tesla owners only. You have to look in the app to find out on a case-by-case basis, or on the Tesla web site.

Good to know. So I guess this leaves out third party apps like PlugShare.
