  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

V-8 tech price

KenT
That is a great deal! The MSRP on the V8 w/Tech is $42,000, and the dealer cost is $38,132 ($38,911 invoice -$779 holdback) in my area. For a car that is in high demand, that kind of deal is unheard of! I can come close to that deal on a V6, but I can't come close on the V8, especially since my area's VIN's have have just started creeping in. Can you share the dealer's name? For the cost savings, I could vacation out there and drive it home and be money ahead!

Yes it is OneShot...

But I stand in the batter's box waiting to see how the "V8 Tech" looks in person. Even though three dealers have agreed in pricing and service considerations- I still question Hyundai's service reliability compared to Lexus and Toyota's.

That is why all the dealer's have said they would pick up and return my car via Flat Bed and discounts etc on service and parts- but I still am hesitant.

Actually OneShot... since I stated that all the dealers are including CT (Cargo Tray) & WL (Wheel Locks)- MSRP is $42,150.00

So they are actually making "nothing much or possibly losing a few dollars" since they are into basically all of their "2% Holdback".

I wouldn't be as worried about the service reliability as I would be about the resale value in a year or two. The last few years Hyundai has ranked with/above Toyota in reliability. I realize that Lexus is probably tops in reliability, but BMW and Mercedes are way below all the others we have mentioned. The BMW 7 series is one of the most undependable cars in the last 10 years or so! I haven't heard of either of those namebrands shunned for reliability concerns!
I've been cross shopping the Genesis with Lexus LS460's. Frankly I like the LS460's better, just not nearly $25k better. The issue I have with the Hyundai is resale. The LS460 has ridiculously good resale values, Hyundai's are historically on the other end of the scale.
Another issue, I admit, is the snob factor. Even though people say the Genesis is mistaken for a Bentley, Mercedes, etc., it is still a Hyundai and will increasingly be recognized as such. I plan on doing some sole-searching on this factor as I typically drive my cars until they are a pile of rust I can sweep into a dustpan, thus resale shouldn't be that much of an issue with me.

It sounds like you've just solved your dilemma. If, in fact, you're inclined to drive a car 'til it's nothing more than a charitable donation, what difference does resale value make? Conversely, if you tend to keep your cars a long time, reliability -- particularly beyond the 50K mark where most leasers have long since waved 'goodbye' -- should be of paramount importance.

FWIW, I'm the same kind of car owner. I pay cash for my cars and tend to drive 'em 'til they're, well, unreliable. So I went through a similar internal dialogue when weighing the pros and cons of buying a Genesis, and I ultimately concluded that resale value - for me, at least - is pretty much unimportant, whereas reliability is a fundamental consideration. I methodically researched Hyundai's recent track record vis-a-vis reliability (via JD Power, Consumer Reports, et. al.) and concluded that they were at least "in the pack" (certainly no worse than the last badge to grace my garage...BMW).

Even then, I still almost deferred Genesis as an option since it's in it's first production year. But since I was able to buy an extended warranty - 10 yrs/100K miles with no deductible - at a reasonable price, I was able to buy some peace-of-mind in terms of reliability risk.

Looking forward to hearing how your decision plays out.

I think you have defined your dilemma. You prefer an LS 460 but are you willing to pay +$25K for the snob factor?

If this is a long-term purchase residual value is not the factor, warranty and maintenance costs are secondary.

Please let us know what you decide, I find it fascinating that we are doing these mental value calculations. After all if the car was free everyone would get one. Dare I ask how much a premium would you pay to get the LS?

All I know is that if I get a Hyundai Genesis or Lexus GS460 or Lexus IS 350/ISF orLexus RX (would not get this till the 2010 is released in the first quarter of 2009- New Design- I went to Taste of Lexus at Rose Bowl this past Saturday- got a freakin' impeding traffic ticket by CHP- aholes- said I was going 15 miles below speed limit)- but the Lexus Rep told me if I wanted an RX- best to wait for the new design 2010 Model. But I did get a chance to put into the trunks of all the models to see if my father's manually collapsible wheelchair fit- fit all cars except one of the cars I really liked- the GS450h.

Just like my Hyundai Genesis negotiations the most I would pay for a Lexus is Dealer Invoice- I do not mind letting dealer keep the 2% Holdback- the owner of the Lexus Dealership is a good friend of mine- I typically get all service work done at "20% over the Employee Prices" and parts, etc. at the same price.
