In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. (Im)patiently awaiting delivery of my 3.8 Premium, Black/Black (Canadian version). I was just advised by the dealer that April 1 is the date from Hyundai Canada, so the countdown is on.

Some questions as I think about delivery:

- has anybody tried premium fuel in the V6, and does it make any difference to performance like it does with the V8? (my departing G35 takes premium)

- do the exterior mirrors fold at all? (I know they don't electrically from other posts). Tight garage!

- on the note above, it's also a tight garage lengthwise and my measuring tape shows I've got about an inch of space on either end! Will the parking sensors help? Do they work down to that tight a level of tolerance?

- recent press releases indicate that ultra premium leather was going to become standard on all the 2010's, but the Canadian website (and order sheet) indicated just the premium leather. Can anybody confirm Canadian content variation?

- how can I check 'build date' when I get the vehicle? (i've noted from various posts that this can be important with respect to NAV and TSB's)

Thanks for any input. I've learned a ton crawling through all the posts. Looking forward to April 1 (let's hope that date is not an omen!).

V6 is designed to run on regular only. This is unlike the V8 which will run on regular or premium, with more horsepower using the premium. So stay with regular if you have the V6 and drink beer with the money you save.

In the US, the mirrors fold manually on the models without the electronic folding mirrors.

There is a sticker in your driver door jam which will have the build date, recommended tire pressure, and other info.

As Mark notes, there's no performance or mileage advantage on the V6. You'd just be throwing your money away. V8 is another story.

While they will help with letting you know you're close, I think the warning tone on the sensors goes from beeping to solid warning at 1.5 feet. If you're talking inches, you'll have to work something else out to make sure you're not smacking the wall.

I haven't seen any electronic sensors that are accurate to within a couple of inches. I'd suggest getting a parking stop (like http://www.griotsgarage.com/product...sic&keyword=parking&sortby=newArrivals&page=1) and place it so you feel the bump when you're at the proper distance from the wall.

Thanks...problem is the beers resulting from Mark's reply is in the fridge that's causing the parking issue! :D

Congratulations on your impending delivery.:)

I tried Premium Gas once to see if it made any difference, but I couldn't detect any. Stick with Regular and save the money.

The cars we get here in Canada are slightly different than those in the US market. We don't get the range of exterior/interior colour combinations available in the US and none of the V6 models are available with a leather dash. I suspect that the Ultra-Premium leather is a V8 option only. On the bright side, the Premium Leather in my V6 is holding up just fine after 55k km and the seats are very comfortable even over long journeys.

As Mark mentioned the mirrors do fold manually for better clearance.

The Park/Distance sensors are pretty good, but they won't give you any indication of distances much below about 6". The sensor will beep as you approach an obstacle and when you get to about 6" it just continuously alarms. Put some Foam Rubber or Polystyrene across the garage wall to protect your front bumper (actually the Licence Plate will be the first thing to hit) and use the "park-by-touch" method.:D

Thanks fellow Canuck. Just reviewing the 2010 US vs. Canada 3,8 packages online...it's interesting (and seems somewhat bizarre from a business model perspective) that they do different 'builds' for the two markets.

Canada gets the U.S. Premium Nav package rolled into our Premium package (we don't have that intermediate Premium Nav pkg, only the Premium and the Tech), yet they delete the ultra premium seats and leather wrapped dash that are found on the U.S. basic Premium pkg and only include that in our 3.8 Tech pkg (or the V8 of course).

From a business process / production efficiency / scale perspective it seems odd, but no doubt the marketing gurus on either side of the border have calculated the price:content ratios for each market.

Maybe I'll get lucky when V6 Premium arrives and the confusion on the assembly line will give me the U.S. spec'd Premium & Premium NAV package combo so I get the better leather and the leather dash.

(of course I'd be fine if they slipped up and threw in the odd Tech pkg and a TAU) :D

Here's what I do in the garage. I have a parkmat, which works, but as a back up, I also have a pen that is tied to fishing line, that also has duct tape attached to it. The pen is suspended to the ceiling of the garage. When the front of the bumper hits the pen, the fishing line shakes the duct tape and I know to stop. It's ghetto, but it works.

I did something similar waay back in the day for my moms 1989 Mercedes SEL 420. What I did though, was put a wiffle ball attached to a string that hung down to hit her windshield. So when she pulled in the windshield would hit the ball and she would know to stop the car. GENIOUS!!

Similar here. I've got a two tennis balls suspended from poly twine. The lower ball meets the bumper. The upper ball is at eye level so you can see it move. Works great.

Thanks for all the input folks....(and I should've known I'd get a good garage tip from a member named "Park" :D)

Who needs any high tech sensors 'eh' ? All these ideas sound good and easy/cheap to implement.

Overall length is one of those things you (at least I) don't really think about on a test drive and all your research...I was surprised at the actual length of the vehicle relative to my G35.

It's a big a$$ car. This is about as big a car as one should drive. The next step up from this is limo or hearse.

At least some Canadian 2010 V6s come with the leather dash, unlike the 2009s. The ultra-premium leather wasn't on the 2009 V8; it was added to the 2010 V8, but not to any of the V6s like in the U.S.

There are other subtle differences. e.g. 2009 Premium V6s don't have the 14 speaker Lexicon, but 2010s do - and have the touchscreen nav.

One nice thing about Canada: it's actually possible to custom order a car. My understanding from our American friends on this forum is that their dealers cannot tell Hyundai "I have a customer who wants a red/cashmere V6 tech, please build one and ship it to me." but instead they have to get cars out of some inventory pool Hyundai has set up.

I take it you aren't going to be shopping for an Equus then. ;-)

Good news about the leather dash now being available on the V6 Tech cars here in Canada. The Wood finish is OK but the leather looks different and (in my opinion) classier.

The Custom order option must be new. I tried to get a specific colour combination back in late 2008 but was told no-way. I wanted either the Sterling Blue or Satin White with a Cashmere interior but was told in Canada they are only available with Black leather. I even talked to Hyundai Canada and pointed out how ridiculous this was considering these combo's were available in the USA but they said that Hyundai Canada had no connections with Hyundai US and they ordered their cars to specific model specifications.

Not sure whay your friend's V6 Red/Cashmere with Tech option should be a problem. That is exactly the car I have and it should be available from stock.

No, that hasn't changed.

What I'm saying is that if somebody wants a red/cashmere (or something else that's on the official order guide for Canada), but their dealer doesn't have one in stock and no other dealer is willing to trade them one, they can order one from the Hyundai plant...

In the U.S., as I understand it, the dealer's manager can't order a car, but must check a computer system every few days in hope that Hyundai has built a red/cashmere that's available, and if a car is in the system, that car can be shipped to that dealer when it gets to the U.S.. But if Hyundai is not feeling like building red/cashmeres, well, tough luck for the dealer/customer who wants one - there's no way to actually cause the plant to build one.

It's really the importer that decides which colors and trim levels to get. In the USA, that is HMA (Hyundai Motor America). In Canada, it is Hyundai Auto Canada.

Even in the USA, I am sure that if enough dealers made it known that they want more of a particular color, then HMA would oblige them, but there is a long time between placing the orders to the factory and when the cars arrive and can be shippped to the dealers from the port of entry in the USA.

It shouldn't take more than 3 months...

I've always heard 3 months to custom order a car from overseas (e.g. Germany), or 6-8 weeks if it's assembled somewhere in North America. Why should Korea be much different?
