  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

OK. I've been reading this forum for quite some time now, love the mods some have made and the useful information posted.
I might be driving a new Genny very soon, I know several have posted their same predicament so I apologize for yet another shared dilema:

Local dealer offered me 2 options and after 3 hours he said this is his lowest price.

There is one Genesis 2009 (left over) Silver with black interior 4.6 V8 with the whole thing loaded (Tek Pkg and all the bells and w) his lowest price is $35,500 he says they have to get it out and that's why he can cut $6K and come to $35.5K after 6% taxes and fees (selling price is $42K)
small details included on this one and not on the V6 2010, Wood on the steering wheel, and lighted "Genesis" on the doors. = $550 for 72Mo.

There are several 2010. His best price for a light gray color 3.8 V6 black interior with TekPkg yadi yadi yada.. is $38K after taxes and trade in. = $500for 36Mo Lease. Details on this and not on 2009, Smart Cruise control and I don't remember what else but it was minor.

On both quotes there is a $3K to be credited from an estimated trade in. I think I can get more on my trade in as both KBB and NADA price it slightly above $5K.

I am not an expert on these things, buying cars is not my thing and I need advice.

The 2009 is a sale price only, no lease is offered.
For the 2010 the price is valid for sale or lease whichever I choose.

I love the car, drove both and I did notice the almost 100HP difference between cars, the questions are:

1.- Is $35K a good price for a V8 fully loaded TekPkg etc... new 2009?
2.- would it be better to lease for 36Months and at lease end get a new lease for the new model?

As you can see my plan is to have a Genesis for the next 6 years, the question is which one(s)?

What you guys think?

Hope this helps you with price decision. In regards to out of pocket on the lease of the V8 with tech, how much is your dealer asking for down payment? I just leased a V8 with tech package for $492 a month tax included, $1800 out of pocket and 15K miles a year. I did use my $1500 Hyundai lease loyalty.

mroadster,
Thank you for the info. In both cases the dealer is asking for $1K down on top of my trade in.

The lease of the V6 TekPkg for 36 months is $503 with 15K miles which I am sure I will use at least 13.5K miles a year just commuting to work, leaving almost nothing for weekends. So I guess I'll have to negotiate more miles if I decide to go with the lease.

Price on the '09 leftover is too high.
My local dealer has the price marked @ $33,999 for an '09 V8 FULLY loaded.
Titanium Grey Metallic, Black interior.

id rather have the v8.

as nearwater said i too think the price is a bit high for the v8 the dealer is offering. however, kelly blue book "retail value" is 40,900 on that car.

my advice would be to low ball the dealer at 33.5 then agree on 34.0 and purchase the v8. i can get just over 30 mpg on the hwy if i feather the pedal; 'ahem which i never seem to do.

Same here, bradyb. :D

If you're happy keeping the car for at least 6 years, the resale "penalty" at the end of that period will not be that bad on the '09 (which is already one year old as a used car) vs the '10.

So, for lower out of pocket you are getting the "top of the line" Genesis with the 09 V8. (I'm a sucker for creature comforts like wood steering wheel, etc.)

If you intend to drive it for 6 years, don't even consider leasing. And with the generous Hyundai warranty keeping it for 6 years makes sense. As long as you don't have a need"" for a new car every few years.

I'd go with bradyb's plan. But I'd still buy it for $35,500.

Thanks all for the responses and opinions.
@nearwater,
That's a great price! Where is your dealer located? I am traveling and searching the forum for history and details is difficult from my iPhone and the poor reception on the road
I am in south texas, Hyundai dealers are scarse here in fact there is only one.
does anyone know a good dealer in San Antonio?
