  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Valet Service

Had my first 6-month routine service today, at 1237 miles. I used the valet service without a hitch. The service had been scheduled at the time of purchase. Valet driver was fine; had been with the dealership for many years. I don't have reservations about others driving my car - dealership drivers around here are generally retired guys looking to make a few bucks and/or just get out of the house, not the young hot-shoes that some are worried about.

Loaner was a new, 310-mile G70 2.0. I took it around my local test drive route and was pleasantly surprised with its performance. Barely hesitant at the git-go, but then strong and responsive.

Only 1,237 miles in 6 months? Wow!

Basically an around-the-town car. I'm retired; it goes to the fitness center and runs on my Meals on Wheels route. The bigger car makes the road trips; easier for the semi-invalid spouse to get in and out of, and to transport her mobility hotrod.

I bought my G80 last month at Genesis of Plano, north of Dallas TX. It's also known as Huffines Hyundai. They are run by a well known and respected family who has been around for many years. They pride themselves in great service, and Huffines sells other makes as well. They have probably 25 new Genesis cars on the lot, mostly G70's.

I was told that Genesis provides the customer with superior service, the white glove experience. I was told about the valet service, and I believe they said it may take a few days at most to have the valet service performed. They also said I could bring my car in and drop it off. But in any case, I will get a Genesis loaner.

I dropped my car off early December on the way to work and they gave me a G70 loaner. It had maybe 5,000 miles on it, I don't remember - but it was great. I was bringing my G80 in for a window tint which was added at time of purchase. So it was not in the shop for a Genesis covered service.

If things continue this way I'll be happy.

Honestly, I'd rather drop my car off and pick it up when ready than let some unknown person drive it. The dealer is about 8 miles, 20 minutes from my house, and 10 minutes from work.

Like some here, I encourage everyone to hold the dealer's to their promises. Fortunately I haven't had to argue - yet.

I've had a pretty much flawless experience with Genesis of Huntington Beach in terms of the service valet thus far, but recently had a really bad experience with Genesis of Laguna Niguel. I'm not attached to any particular dealer in the area, so wanted to explore and see who would give me the best service after using Huntington for my first appointment. When I told the Laguna dealership where I lived, which is about 25 minutes from their dealership, the woman on the phone had to "check with the service advisor to see if we can do that." As most of you likely know, the official Genesis statement is that valet service is required by dealers to customers within 50 miles or an hour of driving, so I was a bit surprised, but figured it would be a non-issue and that she just didn't really know what the policy was. Imagine my surprise, then, when she came back on the line and told me they wouldn't pick up my car. After telling her what I thought the official policy was, she asked if I wanted to speak to the service advisor, and put me on hold to be transferred - a transfer that never happened, even after the phone being re-answered twice by random technicians. I ended up calling Genesis Connected Care to confirm the mileage policy, which they did, and they put me on hold to get the Laguna dealership on the phone to ask them why they wouldn't valet my car. But the best part is, when they did this, the service advisor hung up on them! So, the representative made a note in the dealership's file about how poor the service was, which can affect whether or not Genesis allows them to continue as a dealership.

Meanwhile, Genesis of Irvine had a 2+ week long wait for a service valet. I ended up back at the Huntington location, and I'm glad I did.

In a nutshell, if you're in the Orange County area, stay away from Genesis of Laguna Niguel!

Forgot to add, that my previous G80, a '17 Ultimate 5.0, clocked 1,021 miles in one year.

Why did you get a new one, was the ashtray full?

:D I surrendered it because I was not using it. A year later I got a good deal on my fun car, a customized TBird, and bought this G80 Sport Sedan to replace it. The Sport Sedan had come out shortly after I got the 5.0, and I'd envied its sportier look.

Just following up on the thread... had first oil change experience at dealership.

Huffines Genesis of Plano, TX (north of Dallas), where I bought the car.

Car was built in Feb 2019, bought it Nov 2019, today it has 2,100 miles on it. Told them the oil was a year old (from build date) and I wanted it changed - they said fine, no big deal. I asked if they used the manual-specified ACEA-A5 oil (5W-30 full synthetic) and they said no, they use Quaker State conventional. Okay fine, as they said they would change it every six months. I drive about 9K miles a year.

Made appointment on Fri 2/14 for Mon 2/17 at 8:00 AM. They offered the valet service, I told them I didn't need it (it's only a couple miles out of the way on my drive to work and I don't like strangers driving my car), I can just drop the car off and get a loaner - they said fine.

I arrived at 8:10 AM and was in a G70 (Adriatic blue, 2.0, Dynamic w/HUD, 4K miles on odom) and headed to work by 8:20. They called me at 9:25 AM to say my car was ready, and they could either deliver it to my work (half a valet service?) or I can pick it up. Since it's only 10 minutes away I said I would come by at lunch.

Went by at lunch, signed the form, and was in my G80 headed back to work in four minutes. Amazing fast turn around. I parked the G70 loaner 10 feet from the Service Dept door, and my G80 was two parking spots over.

I can't say it could have gone any better. The Service Advisor was a bit emotionless, but after all, it was 8:00 AM on Monday.

This is my second service there, first was a free window tint - and all went well then, too - had a G70 loaner then as well.

Thumbs up for Huffines Genesis of Plano.

Hi All, I’m not a Genesis owner, but have recently placed a reservation on the new GV80. While patiently waiting for "summer" I thought I’d see what current owners have to say about Genesis.
I looked at the thread, are there any stand alone Genesis Dealers? What are they like?
Being new to the forum is there a current thread about "Brand Image"?
Thanks

I'm glad to hear that it went so smoothly and you're pleased with it, but I'm still blown away that the dealer would put in oil that doesn't meet the requirements stated in the owner's manual. I realize there are various arguments that this may be fine, but it's still crazy. Might as well put in regular plugs instead of Iridium, it would still run, or incandescent bulbs instead of LED.

I agree! The "out" is that I can use ILSAC GF-4 or above if "ACEA A5 engine oil is not available in your country". As we know, it IS available in my country, so they really have no excuse here.

If they think it's not required then take it out of the damn manual! But don't say it is, and then don't honor it. I think it's only in there so Hyundai can report that their cars are required to use a high fuel efficient oil. Probably a government kickback, or they avoid a fine. I'm tired of arguing about it. I opened a case with Genesis and they have yet to respond, but acknowledged they received it.

Welcome to the forum!

As far as I know, there are no stand-alone dealers, yet. There's typically an area in the Hyundai dealership where you will see banners and maybe 1-2 Genesis models on display. They are great cars but much of the sale & service is still reported to be Hyundai-like. My personal experience in north Dallas TX has been good, but nothing like I experienced with the Sewell line of dealerships. They have nice showrooms and exceptional service. No comparison.

Sure wish Sewell sold Genesis.

Experience Sewell - Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston & San Antonio

Joy to sadness...

I popped the hood to make sure everything looked okay, and when I closed it my eye was drawn to a scratch on the hood. As it turns out, the whole hood (and likely car) is covered with side to side scratches from an apparent car wash! It's a white car, and you have to see them in the reflection of a light, but they are very noticeable. Crap!

Has anyone experienced this, and how do I get rid of them? I tried using some of my Meguiars wax but it had no effect. It may be embedded plastic in the paint, I'm not sure. Just pisses me off royally.

Had I known that use a crappy car wash I would have told them to not wash it!

I'm sorry to hear this. If the scratches are all over the car, and it's bugging you a lot, you might contact a good detailer and get an estimate on paint correction. Good luck.

I just tried a clay bar and it made no difference, so they are scratches. Just can't believe it.

Dealer car washes can't be trusted. Sucks that you had to find out the hard way, but now you have an excuse to detail the car fully and maybe ceramic coat it

I had the same experience on my first visit. I have a number of Show cars so I have te proper machines and polishes. It took me a full day of polishing and waxing to eliminate the scratches. My car is black and the scratches were very visible. The next time in I had signs in several places that said "Do Not Wash" it works. Most dealer car wash (car scratch) are horrible.

Yeah, I just forgot to tell them not to wash it. My prior car's service dept washed my old car several times with no issues.

What's odd is that I cannot see the same scratches on he trunk lid or the top of the car, only on the hood. Just seems like they would be on all upper surfaces. It the first time (that I'm aware of) it's been through a car wash, only 2,100 miles. I hand-waxed it in November and it was immaculate.

This weekend I'll spend some quality time with a clay bar, Meguiar's Scratch X 2.0, and Meguiar's Ultimate "wax".

For a small area with scratch’s, Harbor Freight makes a nice cordless handheld polisher. It’s has a 3inch foam pad that along with Meguiars fine cut cleaner, it easy to quickly polish out scratches. It’s about $99. My G70 brand new had several areas at the seem of the plastic sheet paint protector film where I could see where the plastic stopped at the front of the hood. The HF polisher made easy work removing those fine lines where the plastic film was. Each time I wash if I see something minor with the paint, the polisher works great removing it. Comes with a nice storage case as well.
