If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Very Disappointed with the Genesis

If you have not used POI, you are missing one of the best features of the Nav Search. If you want to go to a restaurant or find a hotel on a road trip, use this to find the closest one. (IOW - You don't know the address). Find a hotel then with the bluetooth connection have it dial the number for you. Very Nice!

To be honest, I've only had the car since July, and I can count the number of times I've used the nav to get to a destination with guidance on one hand. I'm much more of a 'nav = live map' kind of guy :) I'll have to give it a shot though, thanks!

I drove the Taurus. The plastic interior, road noise, low roof height, smallish trunk, build quality was sub par to Genesis. Hey I WAS a Ford man way back (still own a F-150) but I am a Hyundai believer now. Everyone has their opinion & tastes- why there are many different vehicles sold out there.

I have been a ford guy all my life too, but the Taurus and the Genny aren't even close. With that being said, I think Ford and Hyundai are two brands with a lot of momentum and I see good things ahead for both.

Obviously I have hit a nerve here and I can understand, I can appreciate some of the responses as well and the fact that the car will take some getting used to. As already mentioned, I love the style of the car and the way it drives. Although it pulls to the left. After much reading I see that is “normal” for the Genesis. I can tell you that it is not normal for a Ford. Many posters here asked for specifics and I could go on and on but most of them have to do with the Lexicon system. On the positive side, I will say that I am impressed with the fuel economy. After my first tank of fuel, I averaged 25.6 mpg which is excellent for a V8.

A car that pulls to the left isn't normal for any brand. Anyway, back in your hole troll.

Except when you have to enter those darned addresses....street first, and then select the city...or navigate your MP3 Player. I've gotten used to it though. As a poster said above, it takes time to learn.

Have you tried doing it by voice? I'm told it's much easier. But I admit I haven't needed route guidance more than a couple of times. Maybe I need to get out more?

There really should be a minimum age requirement to join these forums. Let me guess, early twenties?

Mine tracks straight, no pull, so you should have ypur car checked for proper alignment and also a bad tire can cause a pull on any car. BTW the worst car I ever owned regarding alignment, pulling and front tire wear was a Mercury Sable LS P.O.S.

The way you describe the problems of your Genesis definitely made you sound like a troll.

But if you're not, I would like to share my thoughts on your opinion.
I also like the new SHO. It looks decent, and with the twin turbo V6 + AWD, it would have probably made a better DD especially here in Michigan.
I have considered the SHO along with the Acura TL SH-AWD when I was shopping around. But the SHO was just out when I was shopping, and there wasn't much discounts offered at the time. Same with the Acura.
I guess I bought the Genny because I thought it was the best value.

Like most people here admit, I also think the ford Sync system is very nice. Probably superior to the DIS system.
But what I really liked about the Genny was the Lexicon sound system. I think it's way, way better than the Sony system in the SHO.

To tell you the truth, I've never thought the Nav/DIS system in the Genesis was 'laughable'.
I never had any trouble routing my destination, nor did I have any problems getting used to the system.

I think you should just give it more time and try to get used to the system.
I'm sure there were parts you really liked about the Genesis that made you decide on this car.
Hope everything works out for you.

Dan

The only beings that make their first post " Very disappointed with the Genesis" followed by a positive spin on a competing product and brand are trolls. Real owners of the car would post something that resembles, "Tech package, difficult to use, need help". No one who purchased a car would subsequently call the amenities laughable, as this would be an admission of their own stupidity for not figuring this out before spending loads of money. So you're either a troll, or an absolute MORON.:welcome:

Nearwater, I promise I am not a troll and thank you for giving me the benefit of the doubt. I have been a member of many different forums over the years and have always been respectful and never resorted to name calling. As the other poster here has stated, I guess I am a moron for not doing my research before buying a car. I am having serious buyer’s remorse and doubt and thus my frustration. I guess I’m venting a little on a public forum and for that I am sorry. I am going to focus on what I like about the car and let go of the rest. I’m just wanting to discover something that makes me say, “wow” instead of “really?” I’ll get there. Hey, I’m a Genesis owner now.

I believe that you weren't deliberately trolling, but you have to admit that your first post was hyperbolically negative. I don't know how much the DIS has improved since '09, but the current version is very good, especially paired with the Lexicon sound system. I have to say that every time I get in my Genesis, I'm amazed at what I got for the price, even taking shortcomings into account.

Don't take this the wrong way, but your post said that you're 43 years old. If you bought your first car at age 16 and have owned 28 of them, you've averaged one per year. The inference is that you weren't easy to please, no?

I have owned as many as six vehicles at a time so 28 at age 43 is possible and also keeping them for several years. I have four cars now including the Genesis.

Torre, Troll... whatever your name is. We're too busy for your BS. Go back to the Ford forum where you belong. You're wasting our time--

I can understand getting on a forum and discussing a problem that you have with your car to see if others owners experience the same problem but
you have to take the car back to the dealer and get it fixed. The car pulling to the left is not normal and may just need an alignment or tires checked.
My car was pulling to the right. I took it to the dealer and they corrected it.

Although I only read a couple posts here I will say
in defense of Torre, my last car was a Torus which
did not have an air leak in the driver's window and
my Genesis pulls both ways depending on which lane I
am in, it bugs me.

That's interesting and surprising, since most feel that the Lexicon is one of the better features of this car. Or did you mean the Tech system in general?

Going into this purchase, I would not have chosen a car on the basis of the sound system. Indeed, I don't even think I turned it on during the test drive. But now I'm spoiled for life.

You missed out on the best part of the test drive. I went with a flash drive loaded with 320Kbps MP3s when I test drove my 4.6. Turned the stereo up to 35, put on Panama by Van Halen and took every chance I got to drive the heck out of the Genny :) The salesman thought I was nuts, but he was laughing by the end. The Lexicon is one of, if not the most awesome sound systems I've EVER heard in a car. Clear response all the way up to 35 with no rattle and no bass fuzz. It's awesome.

Yep, I definitely didn't do my homework, in that area at least. I discounted the importance of the sound system because, based on my previous cars (including a Maxima with a disappointing Bose system), I had no idea how fantastic it could sound.

I asked the salesman about the DIS, and he did a piss-poor job of explaining it. Had I fully understood its capabilities and especially the discrete surround offered by the 17-speaker system, I probably would have bought the Tech.

OldSpice-

Take the car to Lia or Key and have the door seals replaced. There is a problem and is not normal- warranty it.

Next tire rotation get a 4 wheel alignment. This should fix- unless it is normal crown in the road.

Both the Hyundai dealer and my local tire shop said the alignment is within spec but the car still pulls to the left. I Googled it and learned it was a common complaint with the Genesis.

I have owned as many as four cars at a time. I have at least liked all of them with the exception of a Honda Accord but only because it needed a new tranny at 6,000 miles.

And absolutely the sound system plays a role in the car I buy. Its like the third thing I consider. I have a demo CD I bring with me on every test drive. The sound system in the Genesis is the best I have heard and had a lot to do with the decision to buy the car. That coupled with the styling and the accolades from the magazine folk.

I appreciate those on this forum who have kept it civil and realize that simply because I have stated I am disappointed in the car and pointed out why does not equate to me insulting their wife. I don't have time to respond to the others.

I will enjoy the car for what it is and expect to get many years of service as I bought it to be my daily driver. I still have my truck and my Jag Super V8 to satisfy other cravings as well.
