  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have approximately 2500 miles on 3.8 AWD, and also experience the mild vibration in the steering wheel and seat. I live in New York where there have only been 2 or 3 days above freezing since I've owned the vehicle. The intensity of the vibrations changes as I drive and seems to be effected by different road surfaces. When I originally test drove the car, the vibration was severe for several miles, and the salesmen blamed the vibration on snow in the rims.

For those who experience the same sensation, are you convinced it is a tire issue and not some other mechanical problem. Has anyone successfully eliminated the problem. I'm definitely frustrated by this issue.

I experience slight vibration for the first few miles but goes away. What are your tire pressures at start up? Next time your at your dealers, request to drive another car (same package) on their lot and do a comparison.

Yes! You are describing exactly the issues I had, and to some extent still have. It is my opinion that this is directly related to these Hankook tires.

1. Flat-spotting, which occurs whenever these Hankook tires sit for a period of time, the colder the temperature the quicker this happens, sometimes in a few minutes.

2. Vibration at highway speeds, felt in the wheel, seat, armrests. Mine was so bad that all 4 tire & wheel packages were swapped at @600 miles (made it worse), so bad that I considered turning back from a trip to FL, wondering if something on the car was going to break. On the 2nd day of my trip I realized the problem was "better", continued to do so as my trip went on. Now at over 6k miles, this issue has not quite disappeared, but has gotten much better.

My advice is to do whatever you can to have your dealer replace these Hankooks with a different manufacturer. You might even consider going with a Grand Touring tire, which is what I will probably do when these tires are worn out.

I have to wonder how many potential and future sales have been lost because of these Hankook tires.

And.... Went to a trusted person who did a deep Road Force examination. The tires were already heated up and initial flat spots gone. However, still the nagging unbalance we all seem to be feeling. We found massive weights on the real wheels from the factory. And they were way out of spec from a Road Force perspective. The fronts were also out of spec.

He thinks he can dismount and move the front tires around the rim and get a good Road Force balance. The machine seems to think so too. The rear tires may be too bad to ever get within spec. We did not have time to try his magic. Will do that next week.

When I did this I had 6-700 miles on car.

I am thinking we have wheel issues and tire issues. Especially for those of us with Ultimate 5.0.

My Michelins in my 2012 5.0 were perfect from factory, minimum weights in the wheels, and never been rebalanced in 36k miles. Still good tread life BTW.

All four of mine had what I believe are excessive wheel weights both inner and outer. The strips in the back are at least 7" long.

Hope this helps narrows things a bit.

Was there any ice on your car? Ice on your car can cause vibrations (severe) at highway speeds. The turbulence will vary depending on how the ice has covered your car.

I noticed it too, especially in colder mornings for the first 5-10 minutes of driving but then the vibration seems to go away.

This would be the first winter that the new 2015 Genesis and the Hankook tires have been on the road. Perhaps these tires are wrong for colder climate regions. The vibrations seem to be more prevalent when the temperatures are cold.

No.

Still trying to understand this issue, for those who experience the vibration, is it intermittent, occurring on different types of roads, speeds, or days? For me, it seems random, which makes me believe it's mechanical and not tires.

Same problem for me even after the dealer swapped out my original Hankook tires for Michelins as part of a tire recall!

If I haven't driven the cars in a couple hours, the first few miles are always "bumpy" with vibration that I feel in the steering wheel and through the gas pedal... even if the street surface is perfectly smooth (the roads near our home were recently re-paved). At first I assumed it was just bad tires, but not that it's still happening with the new Michelins, I'm concerned there's something else going on.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

If the problem goes away after a few miles, that is "normal" flat spotting.
If the problem does not go away after the tires are warmed up, there is another issue.

The car needs to be driven and get rid of the crap Michelin tires. Get the tires warranted through Michelin as they will pay for 3 of the 4 tires as a good will gesture. Act fast as I'd the car is older than 30 days, they will only pay for 2.

I have only 800 miles on my Genesis AWD and have noticed/felt a similar sensation. Even on well paved roads, I was thinking that it had something to do with the tire pressure or some type of front end problem. My tires were set at the dealership at 35 pounds, front and rear, and wonder if I bring them down to the recommended 33Front-33Rear, if that fixes it fine, if not, will wait until the first oil change and discuss with service dept.

Mine came with Michelins, so maybe it is something else.

My 8/15 build also came with Michelins, but I found a Hankook brochure in the glove box.

I think the vibration (only 300 miles on the odo) comes from mis-alignment. I'll be taking it in next week for this, possible warped rotors, and a distorted windshield.

i have the same problem and I ride on conti DWS 06 which only have about 350 miles on them

car is @ the dealer for the second time, they are talking re doing the balance..I think the problem goes beyond that

I have the same problem with my Michelins but I had the same problem on my 2013 Lexus GS with exactly the same tires. It only lasts for a couple of miles, and is worse on cold days, so I'm assuming it's flat-spotting.

My car is at the dealer (600 miles). They said the vibration is from unbalanced tires. They were able to road force balance two of the Michelin's, but not the other two. The two tires will have to be replaced.

Has anyone every heard of a tire that can't be balanced?

Yes - that can happen if the tire is defective. I had my entire set of Michelins replaced due to that. Now... I still have a bit of an issue above 65 MPH even with the new set. I don't know if the problem is wheels, tires, or something else. I will be going on a test drive again with the tech to make sure that they understand the issue.
