  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Looks like an awesome system. I used to have an Eclipse DVD/Nav in my old car which had a double din. The unit was 5 years old and I would say it was just like the Genesis Nav. Aftermarket units are typically always better than OEM but I find the Genesis Nav to be perfect for me. I don't really have a problem with it and it has never brought me somewhere I wasn't suppose to go.

Thanks for sharing the video.

The problem with aftermarket units is that you have to remove them from the car every time you leave the car, even for a short time, or else it will get stolen.

I use an aftermarket unit in my Continental when we travel, and I make sure that one of us stays with the car when we gas up. When we visit a restaurant, if we can't see the car, we remove the unit. When we stay in a Motel, we not only remove the unit, but also remove the mount, and anything that shows there was something attached to the inside of the windshield. Sure, and aftermarket unit may function great, but they are a pain in the you know what, every time you leave the car.

Perhaps I don't expect as much as many of you with the built in Genesis unit, or even the built in unit I had in my MKZ. (easy update with a DVD Disc).

I guess I'm just "easy".

this is a Indash unit bro.. not one of those crappy mounting ones.

Portable units are not necessarily crappy when you solely consider Navigation performance.
In my experience, Garmin is the best hands down and only Kenwood uses Garmin as their nav solution.
All other in-dash manufacturers including Pioneer and Clarion uses other nav solutions which isn't as good as Garmin, IMHO.
They do look fancy with those large LCD display and all, but I wouldn't call Garmin portable units "crappy".

BTW, nice car, man. What year is your Boxster? Is it an S?
Always wanted a P-car, hopefully I can own a 911 before I retire. :)

I call them crappy portable units because every portable unit I have always has trouble finding satellite signals its so annoying. Sometimes it picks it up sometime it doesnt... with the indash it always of course never has any probelms.

Nav solution on the indash units are going to be better because most of the indash units use gyro and speed signals from the car to better locate the vehicle's position, while the portable units only use GPS signals.

I personally had no problems whatsoever with the Garmin portable units. I agree the Magellans suck, but so did my Pioneer AVIC-D1 in-dash unit I had in my VW.
It did look nice with the huge screen, but after about a year, the touch screen LCD started acting up. So to me, the indash unit was the POS.
