  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was just at my local dealer, he said that the next release for the Genesis 2012 should be Jan. or Feb. 2011. He suggested I wait to see if the 12 will have the 8 speed transmission and maybe some other options.

I can't wait for the 2015 model myself, it's going to be AWESOME!!

So would you rather have a Hyundai 8-speed transmission, or a ZF or Aisin 6-speed transmission? ZF transmissions are used by BMW and Aisin by Lexus (among others).

Wow Jan or Feb 2011. That is kinda early isn't it. Hopefully its not too big differences and just minor exterior changes. I will definitely wait so I can get a used 2009 Genesis for cheap. I hope it gets to like $23000 with tech package when the 2012 is out. Thanks for this info I was thinking about getting one around November or December when the dealers really need to sell their cars but I can wait a few more months.

Wow, can someone confirm? I don't mind waiting for couple more months if this is the case.

These days (unlike years ago), cars that have moderate to signifigant changes from the prior model year are released when they are ready and not according to a normal schedule. The Genesis refresh was not ready for the fall 2011 model year release, so it will come out when it is ready to go.

The fact that the 2011 models (no real changes over 2010) came out a few months early is a hint that the 2012 model will be released in early 2011, but can't confirm Jan/Feb at this time.

My lease is up the end of March so this would be great timing for me!

I believe everything I read on the internet, and what dealers tell me. <grin>

It doesn't sound right to release the 2012 model on the first or second month of 2011, with so many 2011, 2010 (and even some 2009) models still on the dealer's lot I just can't see the 2012 model coming out that early.

Obviously there are still 2011 models available right now. The 2012 model has not been released yet (and will not be until at least early next year).

The 2012 model will be released as soon as HMA has sold their 2011 inventory to dealers and when the 2012 is ready. It is not always possible to release new designs on a set schedule due to engineering and manufacturing problems that arise with new designs, so just because the refresh missed the fall 2010 release as a 2011 model, doesn't mean they are going to wait until fall 2011 to release it as a 2012 model if it is ready to go in January. HMA can always discount or give incentives on the 2010/2011 models to move them out if needed. Hyundai did something very similar (timing wise) with the redesigned Sonata.

Personally, if the new transmission on the 2012 is a Hyundai built unit (instead of ZF or Aisin), I would go for a 2011 even after the 2012 is available.

Early release dates as stated are really nothing new. I purchased a new 2002 Acura 3.2TL type S in February of 2001. I have to assume they came out earlier than this as the dealers had plenty of them.

And likely by 2015 there will be other major changes. If you need to purchase now, now is the time to buy. If you play the waiting game, you will never buy as everything gets better over time.

I have done a lot of reading and searching for the release date and read March.
The new Genesis will be 5.0 429 HP with an 8 speed transmission.
I was unable to get any information from 3 local dealers in Connecticut
about the release date, Hyundai did not release any dates as of yet.
Hyundai appears to be holding back information to push their stock and I also
read the 2012 will start at $47,000. Four thousand more than the 2011's in stock.

I usually keep cars for 10 years or so. I'll be waiting for the 2020 model. We'll see if I'm still drawing breath by then...

I strongly suspect there will be interior improvements also. Why? The new Kia Cadenza is supposed to have ventilated front seats and heated rears. I find it unlikely that Hyundai would allow lesser equipment in the more $ Genesis.

You are in luck. I read on the internet that the 2020 Genesis will have a Flux Capacitor and will be capable of time travel. Roads will be optional and the Tech package will include Mr. Fusion so you will not even need your own plutonium. Unfortunately, the Amp and Head unit will still crap out from time to time, and the ride is a bit bouncy at altitude............

I'm waiting for the 2015 Model as well. In the meantime I bought a 2011 Genesis.:D

I see from your signature that you have an E&G grill. Do you have photos? who did the install?
