  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Warranty work out of 'Dealership' area

Thanks sir, not sure how I missed it but appreciated!

There is 1 boutique in Western Canada currently, in Edmonton. If you're unfamiliar with how that looks. That boutique is the only one in an area the size of India. I know that because its the same region I cover for my job. ;-) Dealership wise they are still being spun up but From what I've seen. 1 in Calgary, 1 in Edmonton, 2 in Vancouver area, 1 in Kelowna which is as I've mentioned before smaller than where I live by a good margin. They must have the space and quite frankly the Hyundai dealership in Victoria are a bunch of dipshits. What would work out OK is if Nanaimo, just an hour and a bit north of me got one, they have a good array of dealerships and they are close enough to also service the chain islands nearby so that would be a good option, one can hope on that one at least.

I think overall I've come to terms with it and if we go ahead are just working around the servicing when I go to Vancouver for work and worst case pay for the odd one myself, not a big deal, or pay for the ferry over and take the wife shopping at Ikea or something. I can't see that coming up as an issue more than a couple times over the 5 years. For warranty work that's the only 'gamble' in this scenario. They have said they will take the car in for service that way, realistically there is a logistical scenario they haven't addressed of how do I get the car back after but that kind of thing coming up may force their hand to resolve that issue properly. To that end though I plan on ensuring I have a loss of use coverage I can take advantage of through my AAA membership just to have a bit of CYA.

^ You're welcome. I thought it was a mix of both but wasn't sure. I know the boutiques use fixed pricing, are the dealers the same way or is there the usual negotiations?

Thurs far, and maybe because of them not being fully "up" yet, I've just being chatting with them and all transactional things have been done through the Genesis website. They are able to go in and put whatever changes in they like. So in our conversations I said well I want to take a 3.3 out and I'm leaning that way currently, she went and flipped the car for me and this morning I had double checked on the Hyundai loyalty discount ($1000) and she just went in and ensured that was reflected in the deal numbers. It's been emphasised that it's no haggle pricing, whether that bears out is another matter for everyone to explore I guess, but make sure you have every program and incentive on the table and in the tool.

It's great though, wife and I did a dealership tour Saturday and aside from Mercedes it reminded me of why I hate car shopping. I love cars, I hate the experience, this process aside from the lack of service centres stuff, has been very good.

In the US, I think it is going to be YEARS before we truly see enough separate Genesis dealerships for G owners to only have their cars serviced by Genesis. They will need time to get the US dealer network fixed, time for dealers to build new dealerships and time for consumers to buy into this "new" upmarket brand. I also think we are going to see a direct connection to the number of trained service technicians to the number of cars sold.

That would suck, even Acura and Lexus warranties are honored at Honda and Toyota dealerships.
They are?
My local Honda can only service my Acura but won't do any warranty related work!

I think they'll have heavy populated areas with Genesis dealerships by 2021. Why? The GV70/80 will be around and we all know the market for those things. If it's competitively priced, they'll have to expand somehow. Build additions to an existing Hyundai dealership? It's possible. Finally having 4-5 cars in a line-up will warrant a service center. I think three cars with a dealership for themselves on an up-and-coming company would be detrimental if they collapsed for some reason.

They are being smart about it so I am partial to their business strategies. However, their execution could be a bit better.

Talked to a dealer today that informed me that the replacement vehicles given via the Service Valet are not able to cross state lines. So, even though I'd be within the mileage (and even willing to cross the state line to meet the valet), they won't give me a replacement vehicle. They cited insurance reasons. Am I getting good information or is this a classic "don't want to do it" deal?

I call BS. You can go to Budget...rent a car...and drive anywhere you want. Right?

It could depend on the dealer and the insurance that they have. States have different laws for negligence/accidents/insurance. Depending on where the dealer is located, obtaining insurance on the cars could be one cost if the replacement cars have a restricted place of delivery and a different cost if they have no restrictions (or can drive in a multi-state area). Just speculating.

Best to check your rental agreement, some will hit you with big surcharges/fees if you drive them out of state without letting them know beforehand. At least that is the way it used to work.

Check with Genesis on that one though from.what I've heard in the past it seems plausible depending on what state you're in. That has never come up in any similar scenario I've had. In Canada over the last long while I've only ever seen a couple times where you had to say wether you were crossing into the US or not with the loaner or rental and even then it was only notification, not, you can't.

That'd be really awkward in a lot of cities and states for sure.

I sent Genesis corporate an email. I'll report back with what I find out. I also asked the dealer that has inventory in my state (~3.5 hours away) to see what they have to say about it.

Enterprise...no restrictions across State lines...even Canada is fine...

Don't feel like checking others. But you get the picture...it is not an issue. So I stand by my BS call.

No, you seem to be missing the picture a few ways. First of all this is not a rental car so the initial comparison is not valid to begin with. Second of all, no one ever said there were restrictions in where the rental cars can be taken. As I said, and have now confirmed, you must let many companies know beforehand so you know if there are any extra charges.

If it’s not a rental issue...why you posting rental links?...LOL. It’s not an issue...do it monthly.

So it seems like an insurance issue. So that’s even funnier...and I call a higher BS. Since when do insurance companies restrict State line travel?

It’s BS...call em out on it.

What? You brought up the rentals and posted the links. LOL It certainly is an issue with rentals without a doubt but rather than having a pointless argument I will let it rest here.

How is it an issue with rentals? I selected 2 big rental companies for kicks...and it clearly states that it is NOT an issue. I could probably do others...but what's the point. If you want to post links to rental companies where it states that it is NOT allowed...please do.

Enterprise...
There are no are restrictions for driving the vehicle to either the U.S. or Canada.
Alamo...
Most vehicles rented in the US can be driven throughout US and Canada.

But yeah...topic has run its course.

As part of our car shopping we were in looking at a Santa Fe to replace the Santa Fe, for diligence. Asked the sales manager and he was confident that there wouldn't be a Genesis dealership in Victoria because of the required space changes they mandated, they'd need to build a whole new dealership. I think personally the Hyundai dealer is not great in Victoria so they probably should look to get into a new space on par with everyone else but hey, not my biz.

That said he did mention they had a bunch of Genesis interested customers who came in and were sent that way, maybe if there is enough regionally there will be 'plan b'. He's like we can service them and when I asked about ordering parts and warranty he's like yeah we can do that, I have a red seal tech with genesis certification. Whether he/they have been informed of the new 2019 plan is another matter.

If it’s any help, I’m loving our new ‘19 Santa Fe Ultimate 2.0T (Machine Gray/Gray). It was one month old yesterday. My superb ‘12 Genesis lives outside in the driveway now with hardly 40,000 mi on the clock. It’s been the most overall enjoyable vehicle I’ve owned, including two 280Z cars and a BMW 2002.

Definitely good looking ride. Question...do you find the engine is under powered for a car that size/weight?

The 2.0 Turbo engine is just perfect for my needs. I don’t tow anything and don’t haul much except for groceries and gardening supplies. But seriously, the turbo is up to any situation that I find myself in.

It’s my second Santa Fe, having owned a ‘14 SF Sport also with the 2.0 Turbo. I passed that vehicle on to my Son, as has been my practice over the years. It always gives me a good excuse for buying a new car and it saves my Son a lot of money and puts his family into a solid car. His latest gift also comes with a nice extended warranty.
