  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've owned an Civic -> TSX -> G35 -> RL and I haven't switched cars in a while since my Acura RL has served me very well.

I stopped by the autoshow yesterday just to see what's new and I stumbled into the Hyundai booth for fun.

I never considered a Hyundai, but the Genesis surprised me with the comfort for the price!

... I may be a Hyundai owner soon ...

I just came out of a 2011 Acura TL. The Acura was a nice car and was a loyal and faithful companion, but I have really enjoyed my Genesis. The interior components are of high quality. The exterior has presence. The ride is comfortable and quiet. Interior space as well as the trunk space is generous. The fuel economy is about what I was getting on the TL, 23 MPG combined city, highway driving. Is the car perfect? No. Frankly, the Acura's telematics were far superior. I could control not only radio, but control the HVAC, ask for weather and traffic data with voice command. No so on the Genesis. Just this evening, a severe weather warning appears on the Genesis touch screen. On the Acura, the warning could be made to speak. The Genesis I had to scroll through the message. Not a great idea while driving. I also thought the ELS radio in the Acura sounded better than the Lexicon in my Ultimate. Just my opinion. Would I buy the Genesis again? Yet bet! I hope that in a few years, I will be able to get another one.

Voice command is overrated. Im happy you know your limit when it comes to operating a motor vehicle but I don't have an issue touching the screen I can handle the car for one second since it literally can drive itself...I mean I don't condone brushing your teeth, texting, and driving but sometimes we need to draw the line at our dependence on technology. Expecially that voice command technology hasn't changed for the last 30+ years. I'm not bashing on you and I'm sure the Acura's voice command is awesome but I find it ridiculously unnecessary for everything to be hands free with a car where u can drive with no hands for like 10 seconds lol

My 05 Acura RL's voice commands are AWFUL. I know I'm dealing with pre-smartphone era speech recognition. I'm sure it has to be better than that.

to each his own...but i must say i miss my regal's intellilink voice command abilities. i could say xm alt nation and that radio station would play. i could say play song hometown...and that song off the usb would play. none of this is available on the genesis. :(

05? Are you serious? That was 11 years ago.

Speech recognition has not advanced in a very long time, it is really old technology and highly outdated. True they have innovated uses as in voice to text or hands free commands but the same old sorry technology is still used to determine what you said. They also improved the speaker to pick up your voice and clarify what came out your mouth but it's the same cake just with different frosting.

Sounds like that acura had you spoiled ;) time work out them arms and stretch them fingers lol. I do understand though I remember one youtube reviewer complaining about that exact issue.

acura? i had a 2012 buick regal. anyway, yes i know it sounds silly, but...trying to scroll through usb stored artists/songs and even xm radio stations that aren't preset is a pain in the arse while driving my genesis. it's actually semi-dangerous, but i do it anyway! :D

You can ask the Genesis to play specific songs, albums, artists through Siri Eyes Free if you havd an iPhone - it works great.

Agreed - the built in voice control is very limited AND it's voice recognition sucks! They could have done so much more with it which woukd help minimize driver distraction - an area they did a poor job in as far as I'm concerned.

That's ridiculous - speech recognition tech/algorithms have improved significantly over time. The fact is that Hyundai appears to have put very little effort into it and it shows: one has to look no further than the built in voice recognition that ABOLUTELY SUCKS versus the Google search voice recognition which is pretty flawless - both using the same microphone (speakers are not used to pick up sound, btw).

Agreed. The Google search function is the best.

not sure that's enough to tempt me to go over to the dark side ... ;)

Still holding a sliver of hope android auto will make it to the 15 Ultimate.

To illustrate how poor the Genesis software voice recognition is, yesterday I said "Call Nick" and the 3 options that came up were Nick, AT&T, and Lynn. Granted, the name I requested came up, but how in the world is it so bad I get the other options.

If Nick works at AT&T and has a wife named Lynn, that's pretty good software ;)

Reading the OP's thread title I expected it to follow with "Until...." and have a laundry list of things he disliked.

Unfortunately, Siri Eyes Free is still a necesary evil given the lack of Android Auto. If that comes, I'd dump my iPhone in a heartbeat - not an Apple fan and already dumped my buggy iPad 3 for this Galaxy Tab S2 and I like it better (and much less buggy).

You're lucky - I rarely ever got things even remotely close to what I asked for, so I have not used it in over a year. The Bluelink Google Search, on the other hand, pretty much gets it right everytime (as does Waze on my phone).

Hyundai was just flat out lazy in both voice recognition quality and breadth of vehicle systems integration with voice control. A pretty big oversight in an otherwise really well thought out vehicle.

Agree that the VR is sub par. Mine seems to be getting slightly better. Perhaps the system learns over time?

In any event, Siri is great. It's more accurate, and much faster than the VR in the car.

Now I have to decide if I want to pay the $$$ for the Blue Link package with the Google guidance. It works really well, but if I could get my VR to start recognizing POIs and Street addresses better, I would not bother with that package. I was able to have my NAV find a Panera location yesterday. I had to say "Panera Bread". Saying Panera, confused the NAV lady too much.
