  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Wax or Clear Coating

Meguiars Ultimate Wax is a sealant, not a wax although the tricky name. All sealants are synthetic and will last longer than waxes (which are made of Carnauba) I always use sealants on my wife car because it is less attended than mine. I used to use high end waxes on mine like Collinite’s Marque D’Elegance but recently I swapped to SiO2 spray coating like Mothers CMX, very easy to apply, moderate longevity and outstanding shine.

Tricky name indeed. Interesting, thanks.

I've used Mequiars Ultimate Wax (liquid) on several cars over the years. It's a easy to apply, creates a nice shine and is durable. Once or twice a year I'll clay bar the car and apply MUW (liquid). Between these "detailings" I apply MEGUIAR'S D15601 Synthetic X-Press Spray Wax using a spray bottle after rinsing and then dry the car by hand. This saves time and I apply wax more frequently. This wax is works fine on paint, metal, plastic and rubber but avoid getting on glass/mirrors as it will causing smearing like any other wax.

Have you tried the Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic Wax? It has almost the same application procedure. Very easy and it's ceramic.

I have not tried this product not even knowing it existed. It's 3x the cost of the Meguiars Syn X-Press. I bought the Syn X-Press in 1 gallon quantity from Amazon (Skynet Beta ;)). The largest H-Ceramic qty. (on Amazon) is 1quart.

Is it 3x better (application ease, shine, durability, etc.)?
I may take it for a test run/application. Thx.

Application ease is the same. Durability is better but questionable but beading capability and shine are three times better IMHO.
I prefer Mothers CMX which is a bit difficult to apply (same as waxes) but for your routine I think Meguiars Hybrid is a very good choice.

wow

Best thing to use is simply diligence, in my opinion. Many products do the same (or very similar) as competing products. Once you love taking car of your paint the rest takes care of itself.

BretL, are you using a polisher, if so, what model and how do you like it? I've been considering the Griot G9.

Porter Cable 7424, with Cut, Polish, Finish pads - I did Swirl Remover yesterday with paint Sealant - I didn't do any cut because it didn't need it. I applied the Ceramic by hand because after you put it on, you need to take it off as soon as it starts to dry. I will say this, the paint is just butter smooth, maybe smoother than with my favorite Ardex Miami Carnuba Shine.

On my white G80 I use Chemical Guys Jet Seal. Works great and the shine lasts. Water falls off. Instead of a clay bar I use a "Nano Skin" pad and Chemical Guys Synthetic Detailer for a lubricant to clean the paint. Also use both on my dark blue 87 Turbo Coupe and white 05 F350. The F350 sits outside and I usually use it twice a year. In the Nevada sun that's not bad.

I have had good results in using Meguires clay bar in the spring and then applying Collinite 845 . Then 6 months later in the fall application of the 845. Easy to use and the shine and water beading are long lasting.Love a clean and shiny Genesis!!

I have good results with Soft99 King Of Gloss one-year sealant/wax. I just apply beadmaker as a topper once every 2-3 months. I do clay and light polish once a year for maintenance.

I waxed my new G80 today using Meguiar's G18220 Ultimate Liquid Wax. Afterwards I was surprised how much dirt / grains I could feel on the surface. You would think a new car would have little if any build up. But then again it was built seven months so.

I broke out the clay bar & spray (Chemical Guys Clay Luber) and it cleaned up really nicely. Absolutely smooth as glass. I then laid down more wax and is looking great, feels great.
It's been 17 months since I waxed my G80 (see above) and it still shines like crazy and beads water. I'm amazed! Granted, it's garaged and only has 7,400 miles on it, but still quite impressed with this wax.

Turtle Wax Seal N Shine

1. It is super easy to use. Spray on & wipe with one microfiber cloth and then buff off with a second microfiber cloth immediately.
2. It lasts a long time. Give how easy it is to apply, this is a killer combo.
3. It is around $9 per bottle so it is super cheap.
