Not entirely true. Take a look at this link. The local guys here Abel Racing dyno tested a 5.0 RSpec with a setup almost exactly like this. They recorded 15whp (
wheel horsepower, don't know the engine horsepower gains but I'd rather see it at the wheels anyways

) gains over the factory air box with a K&N filter drop in. This is more like a ~4.3% gain in horsepower to the wheels. The evidence, from what I have seen, supports that the factory air box is restrictive and replacing/modifying it can release some additional horsepower.
While this isn't a significant gain, it is a gain none-the-less, not a loss in horsepower. And with the almost complete lack in after market products and modifications for this vehicle, it might be worth it to some like me. I want those extra ponies!
