Well I finally give up on getting the sterling blue/cashmere 4.6.

After waiting for more than two months and working with my dealer, regional, and national reps I threw in the towel finally in my hopes of getting a sterling blue/cashmere 4.6 Genesis w/tech pkg. First off they appear to be just after the white in being very rare to come by.

Secondly after getting what I considered a good deal over two months ago
($24,500 difference after trading in my 2006 Azera w/ultimate pkg. with 19,000 miles on it) they would do a dealer trade and trailer in what I wanted out to a maximum of 500 miles ( I live in Iowa). After that it would cost me extra.

After I and everyone I mentioned searched daily there was alway a catch when we thought we had found one. We found a few sterling blue ones but with black interior. Or I think in all that time we found a few just like we wanted but was on either the east or west coast. Trailering a traded car out to them and then what I wanted trailered back was going to run me another $800.00. I should add that there were V-6 versions out there though.

But then here is the real thing that is upsetting.... after any Hyundai dealer will tell you if they don't have the right color, options pkg, that you want to not worry they can get you what you want by doing dealer trades. In my case my dealer had to have a 4.6 Genesis w/tech pkg. in order to be eligible to then look for a trade for what I wanted which he had.

I have no complaints with my dealership at all. I know the Hyundai sales manager quite well and consider him and my salesman friends and have bought several cars from them. They are just the best.......thats all I can come up with for a description. They worked so very hard for me to try and find what I wanted.

Here is the upsetting part! In that time they located one in Indiana, two in Kentucky, and one I think in Missouri. Each of those dealers would not even consider trading with them!!! I thought gosh here they all promise you this is how it works to make the customer happy by supplying them what they want.

So your fate is in the hands of a bunch of drealers out there who evidently can't get along and work together for us Hyundai customers. The funny thing is a couple of those cars sat on their lots unsold for 2-3 weeks. One is still unsold and has been there for about a month and a few days now.

That is the long part of my story. Yesterday my salesman called me and said we just got a 4.6 Genesis off the transport. It was one of the other colors that you said that you liked in the beginning (titanium gray). He said would you like to at least come take a look at it? He said if you want it fine.............if not we have another one now to offer for a dealer trade. Either way no one is going to touch it until after you have taken a look at it.

Well I drove up there and really liked how the the chrome showed out against the gray. The other one that they had was the platinum silver color.
The neat thing about both the gray and silver is the metallic flakes sparkle brighter than any other car surface I can think of. But I liked the fact that the chrome showed out more with the gray than the silver.

I have never really been a fan of dark interiors but the Genesis kind of breaks it up a bit with the wood grain parts, chrome pieces, and the dark brown leather insert on the dash. I always thought black interiors were kind of drab and dreary. I have always liked beige interiors to lighten things up.
But it is harder to keep clean.

So the story goes I came home with the titanium gray/black with tech pkg. last night in the dark unloaded right off of the transport but of course prepped by the dealer. I'll have to write more about the car later. But I found the wide area of lighting from left to right in front of the car by the headlights nice due to all the deer we have in our area! I played with the stereo all the way home and its awesome!

I pretty much babied it home which was about 70 miles. I did have to pull on to one highway busy as heck with Thanksgving traffic I suppose. I found a spot finally and I didn't but step down just a quarter throttle I suppose and my god did it throw me back into my seat!! I smiled pretty big I suppose.

Well I know this was a long write up.............hopefully some will enjoy it and also some may have shared my dissapointment in dealer trading. All I know is I finally got me a Genesis ya hooo!!!!

Congrats on your purchase! I think you'll like the color combination as well. Give it some time. You'll also see that it takes on a hint of the color that it is near - goes light shades of what ever is around it. It was my first choice and took over 3 months to get.

I also think that the cashmere interior looks great, but I jusat wonder about after three years of use . . .

Congratulations on your new Hyundai Genesis, Duaine! So you got a 4.6, huh? That's what I'd have bought.. I like the titanium gray! Post pictures when you find some time..

congrats on your new genesis. The titanium is such as stunning color. But it is troubling that the car you wanted was out there, but the dealerships wouldn't trade for it. That is very frustrating

Just a quarter throttle heh? If you floor the baby you will end up in the back seat :D

Yeah I agree with you. I had the beige interior in my Azera but the seats were what I call solid leather. The Genesis has all those little perferated holes. After I made the decision to go with the titanium/black my salesman said come out to the lot I want to show you something. They had a Genesis demo that the owner was driving with the cashmere interior in a V-6 model but the seats look very close to the same.

He opened it up and said take a look at that and tell me if anything stands out more. I said well I suppose dirt smudges will sometime. He said no right now what stands out with it compared to your black interior? Maybe I was a little slow and took a while...............then it hit me! I said it's all those little holes. He said exactly!

I'm not sure what it is but it seems like the cashmere color's little holes are slightly a different color shade or something. My black, actually its not dark black but more like an ash or charcoal color, just blends much better with the little perferated holes.

Now that alone I don't think would have kept me from getting the cashmere interior however. But he said they have had two complaints from people claiming some types of dirt had built up in enough of the holes to show up. One of them happened to be the owner.

It was dark outside while I was there so he took a flashlight and was showing me. It honestly looked like he had spilled a diet coke or something. It looked like he managed to get it all cleaned up except in the holes. It did show up to me but not badly. It's possible that it could be difficult to clean out.

He just said I really don't think you will regret going with the black Duaine. I wasn't going to mention anything about this had you still wanted to keep searching for the sterling blue with the cashmere interior. He said he wanted the choice to be mine and wasn't going to use those examples to try and force me to change my mind ahead of my decision. I think afterwards he could sense I was a bit dissapointed in not being able to find what we were originally looking for.

I have never had a problem with the titanium gray exterior color. It was the black interior that I hesitated on. And as I said I think he knew what I was thinking and then chose to show me the cashmere/black comparison. I did think it showed a bit of class on his part for not using the examples to try and sway me before my decision but rather to try and give me a reason to feel better about my decision afterwords.

The other thing was I knew my car hadn't even been test drove by anyone other than the service department techs. while doing all the delivery inspections. I think they said it came in with 15 miles on it and by the time I got it there was 19 on it. I don't know somewhere I read they test drive them more than other models. I was thinking they get test drove before being shipped and again after getting here before being transported on.

I'm sure some of you know more about that than I would. Anyway some of the cars they had located for me had quite a few test drive miles on them. One of them had 200 miles on it. And if it's anything like I saw at one dealership here you get these people in that have no intention of buying the car simply because they learn of another V-8 powered rear wheel drive car and they can't wait to see what they have under the hood!

Maybe I'm picky but I don't go for getting ahold of a brand new engine that has been run hard before a proper break in. It does say to avoid racing the engine within the first 600 miles. So I also like the fact that I got a pretty fresh one to.

I too have had a hard time getting a certain color combination. I have been waiting over two months for a blk/cashmr/tech/4.6. Different dealers across the US have that combination but if I go to those dealers then its difficult to bring my trade in (I don't really want to drive 1500 miles to buy a car). The dealers local to me tell me they will get one real soon but it seems that the Hyundai rep can't really help them. I would really like to know who makes the color/model allocation to the dealers after they leave the factory (maybe I could bribe him/her with a bottle of scotch!). Its alot like a crap shoot on when and where they might show up! The dealers are trying but they seem to not have any control over who gets what.

Unfortunately I have had the same problems. I have been trying to locate a White Satin Pearl 3.8 with black interior and the Tech package since August. I have been told a multitude of things by numerous dealers and by the Hyundai Consumer Affairs (HCA) group's "800" number. First I was told that I could factory order one, but when I approached the dealers to actually do this I found this was not possible. I have since confirmed with HCA that Hyundai does not take factory orders.
When I asked HCA if they were any WSP/black 3.8's anywhere around in the Southeast they said they had no way of being able to tell me. They further have been unable to tell me if and when Hyundai plans to ship any to the Southeast. I have called them several times with these same two questions and each time they cannot give me answers and then they refer me back to the dealers to see if they can locate one and then do a dealer swap. As earlier posters in this thread have stated, this is the system that Hyundai is relying on instead of factory orders to meet the needs of their potential customers. The trouble is it is not working; as Duaine, Calvin, and other forum members have confirmed and addressed in their earlier posts. I share their frustrations! What makes it even more frustrating is that I know they exist because I have located some myself; but in every case they have been several hundred miles away. The best any dealer in my area has been able to do is to inform me that they located one about 650 miles away and that they could do a dealer swap but it would cost me $1890 freight charge over and above the final negotiated sale price of the vehicle itself. Another dealer located a couple of others but would not do a dealer swap. Instead they would only go get the car and drive it down here. I don't want to do this as it would add close to a thousand miles on the vehicle before I actually got it and I don't know how it would be driven during this critical break-in time. In both cases the dealers would not tell me where the cars actually were.
This must be costing Hyundai sales, which is doubly bad in the curent economic environment. I would already be a Genesis owner if they could just help me find what I want. I think several other color combos are very, very nice; but at this time I only want the white/black combo. I would think that they are many, many other potential buyers who feel the same way.

I really like the titanium color as well as the sterling blue. This whole issue of locating the color/package of your choice is frustrating. You would think that the dealer could just order one and then you wait? The low sales volume and limited inventories nationwide makes finding the correct color and interior combo that much harder....
