  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'd like to discuss what everyone expects from the upcoming Genesis G70 sedan. What do you feel it should compete up against in the market? How should it perform? What features should it have? Let us (and Genesis Motors) know what you're expecting and what's needed to get you into a G70 when it's available...

Hopefully a solid 3 series competitor. Keep the lux and tech features on the current G80 and 90.

When you say "keep" - do you mean leave them out of the G70 or have the same features that are available on the G80 and G90?

So far, so good on my 2015 Genesis Sedan. But maybe I should stop saying that. :p

My meaning was to have the same tech and lux features as on the 80 and 90. In other words don't de-feature the car just to hit a price point.
As an example, look at the Infiniti Q50... no ventilated seats, no heated rear seats, etc.. to get those features you have to move up the the larger Q70L.

I think a lot of guys will be disappointed in the G70 cause the spyshots did not look like the New York Concept. At least I was expecting it to have some cues from the New York Concept that was revealed, but I believe it will be successful if the G70 rides like the 3 series.

V8 5.0 Twin Turbo = 550 - 600hp :)

I agree with you. It's similar with smartphones these days. You need to buy the "phablet" in order to get the best features. It's silly because not everybody wants or needs such a big phone. Manufacturers (SOME) are FINALLY starting to realize this and make their smaller phones as high tech as the larger ones.

It should work the same way with luxury automobile companies. If somebody wants a Camaro or Mustang - they buy one. If they want a similar type car that has luxuries and amenities - what are their choices if cars like the Infiniti Q50 leave them out? They need to buy the larger car? That makes no sense.

So I agree entirely. The G70 should have the same level of technology put into the G80 and G90 - and be priced accordingly. I'm not saying ventilated seats need to come standard - charge more for the option...

Eh, concepts are concepts. I think it would be a great idea for some of the design attributes to show up in the G70 - but I know the car isn't going to "be" the New York Concept. I'm pretty confident Genesis Motors is building a car that'll be very similar to the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. I just hope they don't make a "Cadillac" mistake and build it to compete with the current generation (which will be one generation too old when it's released) and get the interior volume all wrong...

V8 5.0 Twin Turbo = 550 - 600hp :)

Perhaps in a very high-end AMG-type competitor. :) But I have a feeling Genesis Motors isn't going to be "that company" for at least another generation or two...

Ditto on this or at least have the option to get the current 5.0 engine.

Also it should include all the bells and whistles that the Ultimate has as noted above. Auto Hold, HUD, 9" Nav screen etc...

I really feel it's unlikely we'll ever see a V8 in a 3-Series competitor. Even the 5-Series is likely to lose it's V8 in anything other than the "M" version of the car. The most we'll likely see is the twin turbo V6 - and that engine will get more and more power as time goes on...

Maximum length 186" (this is the 2017 A4, the BMW 3 series is 183"). In other words, no "mid size" car dimensions. 3.3 turbo with its over 300 HP and torque available, little or no turbo lag. RWD and AWD available. Excellent ride along with handling, not harsh. Optional track type package perhaps. Most tech included standard with driving nannies in an extra cost package. The 3.3 has to be priced like a loaded A4 or 330i. This substantially undercuts an S4 or 340i or Mercedes C-450. If a base engine is a 2.0 turbo as expected, then its loaded price has to be like a base model A4 or 330i. I would prefer it looked more like a smaller G80 than the New York concept, which might be the case.

All of this is easily do-able, and reasonable. I also think all of this is necessary for the car to be a factor in the marketplace. However if Hyundai thinks they have a superior marketing psychology which justifies like pricing, well, bye bye.

Would'nt the G70 be based on the Azera with design & luxury from the Genesis line?

I don't think its going to be the Azera platform, but a new RWD based one.

Here's an article from Australia that mirrors my thoughts, I wonder if there's anything "real" to it? Forget the $ references in it, those are Aussie $.

My hope is that the G70 is simply a shrunken down version of the G80, but with sportier intentions. Sounds simple, but after driving the G35/G37/Q50 sedans for ten years before switching to my '16 Genesis, the only thing I miss is the sporty driving dynamics. Hyundai knocked it out of the park with everything else.

I recently test drove the 2016 Infiniti Q50 Red Sport with 400hp, and although it was fast as hell and handled amazing, I still missed the interior quality and solid feel of my Genesis. If Hyundai can cut about 15-20 inches in length, ~500lbs in weight, and lower the suspension about 0.8" then it should be a winner.

The G70 and updated Q50 will be my targets when my lease ends in 2019.

The idea of the G70 is to be a BMW 3-Series type car - definitely not a floaty front wheel drive car...

Yes, I'm pretty confident the G70 is going to be very similar to a G37 sedan in size and handling/performance characteristics.

Yummie ;) Bring it on. Time is passing so slowly now! :p

Totally expect the G70 to be sportier than the G80 - not only b/c the G70 is smaller/lighter than the G80 (hopefully, Hyundai will use aluminum throughout to further cut weight on the G70 - don't see why they wouldn't since they did it for the Ioniq), but b/c this time around, Hyundai was intent in developing the G70 as a sports sedan and not a luxo cruiser.

Also expect the G70 to have a better designed dash (less bland and more modern-looking) with materials better relative to its class than the G80.

Some new photos of the G70.

At first, was a bit disappointed that (from what could be seen) the G70 did not look more like the New York concept, but all in all, looks good and may be the sharpest-looking sedan in the segment and sharper than the G80 (has a sleeker, more aggressive-looking front end).

And here's the pre-production version of the Kia GT/G8.

Basically Kia's version of the G80, but like the K9, looks to split the difference btwn the G70 and G80 in size and should be sportier than the G80 as well.

I concur on the size being approximately the same as a G37. For the performance model, I expect a 2018 clone of a 2015 BMW 335i, with the 2018 release lining up with the next generation 3 series.

Thanks, Yeh! Wow, that Kia is looking good. I wonder what it'll cost... I guess the Kia version of the G80 will be the best route for current Hyundai Genesis owners to go if they don't feel the need to spend the extra money...

As for the G70 - now that we're seeing 0-60 times of 5.3 seconds for the twin turbo V6 in the big, heavy Genesis G90 - I can only imagine how that'll translate to the smaller, much lighter Genesis G70! I'm thinking we're going to see a real legitimate BMW 340i competitor here. 0-60 in 4.5 - 4.7 seconds is my guess...
