  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What do you carry for self defense?

Expecting somebody you don't like? :p

I had to store it somewhere. I would just throw a blanket over it when the pizza guy came to the door. Life was different when i was single.

I carry an old M-43 FireStar 9mm. It is old, heavy, and rugged. I enjoy reading about who carries what, but I am also interested in WHERE people are putting their firearms in the car. One of the few complaints I have with the Genesis is lack of storage space. I have padded my door pocket and conceal it there while driving. Has anyone found a more elegant solution?

i keep my glock 27 in the center console while driving

Let us kick this up a notch.. ;)

Has anyone ever found the need to defend themselves while in the car? Or is it more like a comfort level? sort of like knowing I have a spare tire in the boot! (sorry, the trunk)...

I find my finger as well as my right foot with the help of those 429hp under the hood, are far more responsive than fumbling for something in the hope I can find it in time, to make any real difference in most situations.

Can't speak for myself but some folks have v6 so they don't have an option of making a quick getaway lol.

I keep my guns in the front seat - both, locked and loaded :D

Like everything, practice makes perfect. "Fumbling" shouldn't be in your carry vocabulary.

Winner!:D

Carry right on my person. No need for in car storage (actually, its illegal in NYS unless it is in a locked case. The carry permit is for the person, not the car). Stupid, I know lol

I think that is somewhat reasonable, one hypothetical example would be the 5 year old, opening the center console, picking up the shiny toy and accidentally pulling the trigger while the person with the 'Carry right' was locking up the house. :(

But before I start a war ;), some of you may be pleased to know, that the 'Brit' in me finally succumbed to the second amendment beliefs of the wild side of the 'American' in me, but not without exerting enough logic to add sufficient protection to further minimize the statistical potential for any accidents. :D

Indeed, I love technology to solve problems, so I have an INTELLIGUN (http://kodiakarms.com/product/intelligun/) for home protection, as well as completed training and a carry permit.

I just lack sufficient reasoning to convince the 'Brit' to go ahead and start 'carrying ' around outside or in the car?

One hell of a brain teaser, isn't it? lol...

I'm a wild Southerner (TX and NC) at heart, but I dig the advances like that. You're OK to not carry, should you so choose, but I prefer to have and not need...and use various overused phrases.

I just would like to have one example of the "need" so I can beat the 'Brit' on the head with it ;), hence my original question...

Nice, very nice!!!! :D

Is it 80-400/ 70-200 and 300?

You know that D5 is coming out, right?

Yes. The new 80-400, 70-200 (that you have too) and the 300 f2.8 VR2. Currently have a D4s, D4 and D800E. AF on the new D5/D500 looks to be amazing, especially the fame coverage on D500. I'll be selling some of this current gear :). I have a D500 on order - look like a great option for daylight shooting where you need a little extra reach and I'm a military aviation enthusiast where extra reach and fast AF is critical when things are blowing by at 700 mph!

Those pictures are epic! especially, that Hornet as it is breaking the sound barrier... The angle, the clarity, I can almost see inside that cockpit!

Beautiful shots, well done...

Thanks - not actually breaking the sound barrier as they are not allowed to do that at airshows or over populated areas (big broken window bill at these low altritudes :)). It's a vapor cone forming from the shockwave/resultant pressure differentials (transonic speed - airflow over some parts of the airframe might actually be over Mach 1). That guy was hitting about Mach 0.98 , If I recall correctly?

The effects are more pronounced with high humidity and evident at lower speeds when pulling high "g" maneuvers:

Nice pics you have there! Hopefully, I'll be able to make it on time, to an Air Show in Chicago this year.

Yes, I have both 80-400 and 70-200. Thinking about getting this 300mm f/2.8....rented it few weeks ago and AF was incredible fast with my D810.
D7100 is my backup body, in case I need to cover some short ranges and there isn't a time to change lenses.

I am an aviation enthusiast as well! I usually hang out around O'Hare Int. airport. These are mine, well.....just a few :)
