  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What do you wish you had known before you bought your Genesis?

I just leased my second Genesis, and I'm more than happy with the car. If you're willing to take a 2011, there are some great deals out there, I suppose because the 2012s with the upgrades are due in a couple of months.

I'm reading elsewhere on this site where buyers are paying well under 40K including tax for a loaded 4.6. If you decide on the 3.8. by all means, get the tech package. Sound system is unbelievable and some other great features like rear view camera and adaptive cruise control. Navigation's not the best, but it works.

I know there are complaints about the OE Dunlop tires. I did have one blow out at about 15,000 miles, but that can happen. The other three still had plenty of tread left after 30,000 miles when I turned the car in.

There's really no reason not to buy this car.

HOW ROUGH THE LOCAL STREET RIDE WOULD BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Goodby genesis
after one year, (almost to the day) i gave up and traded in my 2010 3.8 genesis in on a 2011 lexus rx350................enough was enough......couldnt take it anymore.........................
Rough ride on local streets day after day after day....................
Felt every bump and cringed in potholes.................
Couldnt see in rain with the poor headlights....................
Dunlop tires were the worst...........................................
But mostly it was the terrible local street harsh ride..............
The car was gorgeous, and rode great on smooth highway, but enough was enough......
Goodby genesis-----hello lexus with the smooth smooth quiet ride

But did you test drive the Crossover SUV on local streets?

Just kidding, but at least now you know the difference between a sports sedan and a soft ride!
Enjoy!

We have a 2011 Premium W/Nav. Cabernet red/Cashmere

I wish I had known a few small dumb things about it...No really big things, just some peeves I've noticed:

1. Without the tech pkg, you cannot customize the door locks, seat behavior, steering wheel behavior, etc...without a dealer visit...

2. The seat memory is great, but does not seem to include the lumbar position...

3. The climate control display, including the outside temp does not display all the time. I can understand hiding it in the nav mode, but in the A/V mode there's plenty of room to display it...

4. The cabin light mode switch is backward...it should be depressed IN to disable the interior lights and OUT flush to enable them...it just looks bad for it to be in all the time...

5. The EL gauge cluster is nice and clear, but does not dim as much as the rest of the dash illumination.

6. The narrow strip along the back of the hood near the windshield reflects overhead street lights and bright skies into your face and other reflections from it can be distracting when driving in areas with lots of overhead items (like city streets). You see alot of motion in your field of view...our car is Cabernet Red...may not be an issue with other colors...

Number 3 is my biggest complaint as well.

The Dunclops are also abysmal....would have had the dealer replace with Continental DWS if aware.

Wish it also had autofolding exterior mirrors, but knew that going in. ;)

1. How terrible this car handles the snow, RWD sucks!!!!
2. How terrible the tires are
3. No heated side mirrors
4. IPOD Integration??? What ipod integration??
5. Leather seats are soft and warp easily.
6. How much whiplash I can caused when other drivers strain to look at my car,lol

I did not know that the V6 has no heated mirrors.

I did not know that the V6 has no heated mirrors.

As far as I know all V6's have heated mirrors, at least in Canada.
They also have a heated wiper area but no TPMS (thank God! lol).
Oddly enough mine does not have DRL's which are mandatory here and have been since 1990!
One day I'll have to use the dealership's service department. :)

Agreed on the heated mirrors.....all have in Canada....just have to activate the rear defroster.

Surprised you do not have TPMS.....all Genesis have.....and the DRL is a real head scratcher.

Should have specified it's a 2009 not a 2010 or newer!
The DRL's are a total mystery though.

Bizarre indeed......perhaps a US import?

Haha, you sound like the first Hyundai service advisor I visited. He entered the wrong VIN on his computer initially.
After someone pointed out his mistake, it turned out it's a Canadian version after all. (Not that I ever thought otherwise, lol)
One day I'll leave the car and see what they say.

I have had the Genesis for about a month now and my only wish (thus far) is that the front portion of the driver's seat could be lowered further than it currently does. At 6' 3", I could use a little more headroom with out reclining my seat too far back. Otherwise, I'm enjoying the ride.

I wish that I had known about the small print written in the 100,000 mile warranty that it only covers the original owner and not the spouse of the owner. I bought the car in my name. If I should pass on, before the warranty run out, then it would seem to me that this warranty could fall short at a very stressful time in her life, because the warranty cut off will be at 60,000 miles.
The other thing is that the cost of the map updates are much too costly and takes too long to do, especially since you will loose all of your saved locations in the address book.

How would the dealer know you had passed away unless your wife tells them? Just have her bring the car in for service as usual. As long as she doesn't leave the urn with your ashes in the glove box everything will be fine.

I wish I'd done enough research to understand that the difference between the 17-speaker Lexicon system that comes with the Tech package and the 14-speaker version that comes with the Premium package is a helluva lot more than 3 speakers.

Amen. I'm driving a 2011 with the 17 while my 2010 with 14 is being repaired, and the difference is HUGE.

When shopping for a Genesis we looked at a 2010 V8 w/o tech and a 2011 V8(Sept 2010) that uncludes tech pkg. After carefully comparing all features, for us it was a no brainer to go with the 2011 V8. The Tech pkg includes a lot more than just the knob on the consol and the V8 model includes a lot more, vs. the V6, than just a larger engine. Hope all goes well with your repair.

I'm going with the Tech package next time, and probably a V8 too.

I think it's just available in Canada, i haven't seen it in my car and i've had it for just over 2 years, what else do you canadians have that we Americans don't have, universal healthcare??? lol

Well, I'm only 5 days int my ownership of my new 4.6 thus far, and haven't driven it enough to really develop any gripes yet really.

I'm tinkering around with the DIS and started reading the manual for that yesterday in earnest.

I'm not a fan of adaptive cruise control though so far, in the limited usage of it. Already had a BMW guy take a slowed down stare at the car in a parking lot though!

My wife and I love the adaptive curise. We set it and forget in heavy traffic 4 lane highways and don't have to touch the brake or go through resets etc. We set the distance at two bars most of the time except when in close to downtown Atlanta and set it at one bar distance then.
