  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What have you done to your GV60 today?

A 60 would be sufficient? 125% of 50A was 62.5A, I couldn’t find a 65A breaker, so I went 70A. I also went thhn #6 as that is rated for 70A @90 degrees. Romex 6/2(?) stated 55A max rating….
Your not wrong in absolute terms but technically the end appliance on the circuit is the AC charger in the car. The EVSE is just a fancy safety pass through device that is put into place to verify ground and ensure your don't electrocute yourself. Your GV60's onboard AC charger ever won't accept more than 48 amps and additionally the Autel EVSE can be programmed to allow what ever amperage you like as long as its under 50 amps so you would still be ok under the overcurrent circuit rule.

I am familiar with the location of the charger…. 👍
I didn’t know our cars maxed out at 48A AC, I thought I had read that before, but didn’t know where and couldn’t find it when searching again. But that also matches what I saw drawn last night while testing.

<edit>
#Showerthoughts,
Is it wise to scale the breaker by what vehicle is plugged in?
I see what you are saying, but what vehicle will be plugged in tomorrow?
Yes I could “turn the wick down” on the charger and make it at 48, 32, 16A charger… But why do that when I’m doing a new install anyway?
I welcome your insights and thoughts. Genuine questions above. Are you saying a 60A breaker with 50A continuous is acceptable? Is it better as it give more “protection” for overload? (I am aware a 70A breaker will not break at 71A, well not in a hurry anyway….)
</edit>

Do you see an issue with the 70A breaker and do you think I should drop it to 60A? I rated the wiring for the 70A also, 6ft of #6 THHN routed through a 3/4” flexible conduit. Actual conduit length is ~4ft only to the EVSE…

I am no electrician, I decided at college 5V and below meant I wouldn’t kill myself! 🤣

GV60 can pull 48A max. Most chargers also top out at that rate.

Your breaker may go to 70A, but what gauge wire do you have? Spec is 4 AWG at that rate.

It doesn’t matter what the GV60 *CAN* pull as the charger is capable of delivering 50A, so the wiring should be rated appropriately, otherwise you need to limit the charger. Why bother when installing new, I might as well do it right to support the full 50A so it can support that level for any future vehicle, no?

70A rating is to support up to 50A continuous. I’m not clear if a 60A BREAKER would have been to code for a 50A continuous draw as 50A * 125% is 62.5A, which is > 60A. That was my question.

With regards to wiring spec, it’s not true, SIMpull THHN #6 THE spec can be found in the link below. It has an allowable ampacity of 75A @ 90C.

Whereas SIMpull NMB 6/2, I can only find an ampacity rating for that of 55A, which is insufficient for 50A *125%. Hence I opted for the THHN, not Romex 6/2.

The charger is an AUTEL 50A and it can only use UP TO 6AWG hard-wired, it can not take a 4AWG wires according to the manual at least.

Then, would you setup meet code? You have a circuit that it capable of a 70A draw, but wiring that seems to be rated for only 60A.

Breaker is 70A
Wiring is rated for 75A
EVSE is 50A continuous (requires wiring and breaker rated to at least 62.5A).
So to the best of my knowledge I believe it meets code, yes.

Installed protective film on the infotainment screen (only), something I’d highly recommend, as when cleaning it some slight scratches were visible, & modified an Ionic 5 ProClip mount to fit our display. Pretty pleased with both results.

Hi Bob - can you share what mods were needed to the Ioniq 5 ProClip mount? Looks really nice!

Absolutely, didn’t require any fancy tools either, just a bit of time & patience for fitting.

I needed to bend the top hook a little more, to 90° or slightly more than the above pic.

You need to trim the little snap on part (it won’t fit under our display but the material is easily trimmed with a sharp utility knife), & you need to bevel the underside a bit to thin it for a better fit for the adhesive.

This part is the most complicated. There is a support notch cut in the bracket that doesn’t quite fit our display but gives the additional support from a little manhandling. I found a piece I could cut from one of the many phone holders I have, It’s just adding a small block for support. It’s pretty hard to see in the pic but it’s only about three quarters the width of the bracket, just gorilla glued in place.

The phone will be partially obscured by the steering wheel but unless you have a massive phone there is a lot of room between the displays for it & it will not cover any of the visible areas.

That is a great write-up - thank you!

Got some rain forecast for this weekend, so I went out and bought the OEM Genesis all-weather mats. Nice fit, the fronts come in two pieces, but snap together in the center of the mats.

With the Black Friday promo code, I purchased the LinerX all-season mats. They look great, will install this weekend.

I noticed the driver's front mat has a rectangle that seems to be the spot for a logo, but it was empty. So I figured why not take a shot at throwing a Genesis logo in there. I know I am probably the only one that will see it, but I think it came out ok. I would have left it as is if it came with some logo in there, but the empty rectangle looked a little off to me. I also tried the Genesis wings logo, but didn't think it worked as well in that particular spot.

I wish that the Genesis branded mats at least had Genesis on them as well.

It's funny you say that as I was looking at the Genesis accessories website and I think they showed the carpeted mats with the Genesis logo (not with the wings, just the word). I was thinking..."Why don't my carpeted mats look like those?"

Hmm, now that you say that, I do not think mine have it either. My Stinger said Stinger on them. Kinda weird.

These are the carpeted mats shown online. My mats do not have the logo like these do.

Yeah, mine are blue without a logo.

Ok...I stand corrected. I looked again at my carpeted mats and the front ones do indeed have the Genesis logo. The driver's one is hard to see as it kind of gets tucked under the seat, but it's there.

What is the safest way to clean the infotainment screen?
Is the screen glass or plastic?

I rechecked my mats, they do say Genesis on them.
