  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What have you Raced?

Played with a Audi RS4 on the way home yesterday (guy from work).

Surprised - fairly evenly matched at speed. He handles speed much better, but the acceleration was relatively equal.

That's funny BStarr119 I raced a Maserati Quattroporte with the same matched results. The Maserati owner was not to happy when he found out what kind of car I have.
Lets see I also raced:
Modded 13 Mustang GT/300C SRT8/Challenger SRT8 (pulled away 60 roll )
Stock " " (from a dig came from behind to pull 1 car in about 1/8 mile)
Stock Evo 10/ WRX STI (no competition at all)
Stock 14 Challenger SRT 392 (dead heat to 120 then I pulled 2 cars to 150)
Stock 14 BMW 750li /Modded E55 (roll I pulled away a few cars)
Stock 10 /Modded 13 Genesis Coupe both 3.8 (pulled away)
Highly Modded BMW 135/ 335i (dig run I got crushed off the line but held my ground after the about the 660') My car was stock and no traction off line
Anything else that made a valid attempt was unknowingly completely out of their league and wasn't worth the combustion of 93 octane.

12 R Spec sedan
F 245/40/19 oem 19x8 (one size larger-softer compound)
R 275/35/19 widened oem 19x9 (http://www.weldcraftwheels.com/)
Magnaflow catback / secondary cat delete
K/N drop -in / intake resonator delete
Misc. cosmetic and secret weight reduction mods

I had a Jag 5.0 Supercharged blow me away from a full stop. I think i just found my next vehicle (a few years down the line), or maybe even the R or RS version.

I have hit it a few times at red light against a few different cars . I was wondering who had done the same and against what??

Just last night, I raced a Dodge Neon SRT4 with a turbo and shooting flames. My 3.8 is pretty much stock except for exhaust and still whooped him!

Very interested in those rims...can you provide more info, price, pictures, etc.? :p

Check the website and call them they are very customer service oriented. Its $250 a wheel plus shipping to cut or widen to almost any size. With the factory offset and 15mm spacers I felt safe adding a inch. 19x9 is large enough to run a 275 which is the same setup as the 2015 Genesis. I have them packed away for the winter but I will be posting photos soon in the spring. Right now I have 2 extra R Spec rims with all season tires for the winter.

Also my cousin in Ga. just informed me while driving home yesterday he witnessed some kid in a white Genesis R Spec sedan(probably in his parents car) racing a Lexus ISF (V8). They were in the triple digits and the Genesis was in front about a car length and holding. I would say that's a pretty significant kill.

There is no V8 IS-F. The biggest engine in an IS-F is a ~300hp V6. The R-Spec will win against those hands down. Now, if you meant RC-F, then the R-Spec has no chance.

@Unevakno
Thanks for the info. I did some research on those guys, they are highly recommended, but $250 + shipping, hmm....kinda expensive. I'll definitely think about it.

I can't even imagine my Wife's face if I tell her what I would like to have now :D

I'm a newb here, but I was just wondering if anyone has run a 4.6 against a 5.0? I've never seen a video of it done. I've seen 1/4 mile times of the 4.6 all over the ball park from 13.8 - low 14's, but I've seen plenty of 5.0's run very low 13's.
I've driven both cars and the 5.0 felt extremely held back, more so than the 4.6 at least...

The 8-speed automatic in the r-spec is pretty docile but if you step on it, it runs well.

Before you reply make sure you know what you are talking about. I said a ISF not a IS350 F-Sport. A ISF has a 416hp V8 and is slightly lighter but I would expect the R spec to win on top end. I would race a RCF not expecting to win but I would give it hell. Its 0-60 and 1/4m are a few tenths off the fastest stock R spec sedan times. My car isn't stock so my times should be faster. http://www.caranddriver.com/lexus/is-f

My bad. Forgot about that one.

I own both and would say the feeling of 'extremely held back' maybe a direct result of the ESC intervention, the Rigit collar/decent tire set do help but once I got used to the extra power, I would definitely say the 54hp/42trq does present a significant difference between the two engines...
Roughly 800ms 0-60 and 1.1 sec 1/4 mile or the equivalent of driving the 4.6 on a Sunday morning vs the R-Spec rush of being late to work...:D

Thanks for responding! I don't see a 45 hp difference having a 1.1 sec in the 1/4 difference between the two. I've seen drag times results for the 2011 4.6 be .5 seconds at most and about 2-3mph behind the 5.0. Have you by chance run both vehicles side by side?

I suspect transmisison tuning and gear ratios play a big part here. The transmission loves to shift early and our V8's like to rev as they make peak power at high rpm. This engine seems to work quite well in the higher rpm's and provides plenty of top end performance. My now sold Genesis Coupe with its stock turbo and an ECU tune provided a ton of low end grunt but power fell off quickly after about 5500rpm.

The 2009 4.6 that I have is 54hp difference (375hp) from the R-Spec and is around 5.6 sec 0-60 and around 14.1 1/4 mile, while the r-spec is around 4.8 second and a whisker above 13 seconds...

The difference between the ZF and 8sp is significant! Don't get me wrong, I love driving them both, while I am still impressed how the 4.6 handles itself after more than 50k miles and 6+ years and of ownership, the R-Spec is simply in a different league altogether...

Let us put this way, if Hyundai does not come up with the goods in the form of a souped-up R-Spec around 2017/8 (MCE refresh cycle), I will breakdown, forgo the basement upgrade, get a Tesla P85D and call it a day... :D

So, which one is better? ZF or 8sp?

There no right answer that I can think of, although I personally tend to lean towards the 8sp from a performance prospective, while the 2009/ZF provides the preferred family Sunday cruiser... :D

Advantages of the 8sp:

- It has a shorter 1st gear (=generally faster acceleration)
- Faster changes around 450ms, while ZF is roughly 600ms.
- Better gear selection (only if driven/programmed correctly).
- A more satisfying kick-in-butt gear changes when driven hard.
- Slightly better gas mileage (supposedly)
- Superior engineering with Quin (five) clutches:

Advantages of the ZF;

- Comparatively gentle gear changes/transitions.
- If floored, appropriate kick-down gear selection and changes with consistent 600ms delay, while 8sp can take anywhere between 500ms-1700ms (due to several factors including ESC intervention).
- Marginally quieter operation.
- Generally better gear selection with minimal 'hunting' for the right gear without the need for any 'adaptive training'.
- ?Maybe more reliable?, if one searches the forum, there appears to be more 8sp transmission replacements compared to the ZF.

Just my take on the subject... so YMMV... ;)
