  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What have you Raced?

raced my coworker in his S2000 last week at a light. had about 8 cars on him by the time was in 3rd gear. and that was with traction control kicking in

I use to love racing S2000's back when I had my GTI. I felt like most of them didn't realize the power was up in the 9k RPM range. That car could move, but you had to wait till your ears stared to bleed before changing gears.

Last Saturday afternoon I was getting on to the freeway in Mexico when a new white S7 zipped past me at a good pace. Me, I am always looking for an excuse to goof off, so I kicked it down into 2nd and into 3rd as I got up behind him. When the driver of the S7 saw me jump behind him, he started waving at me in the rear view and nailed it. I knew what was coming and nailed it the same time he did. At this point we were doing around 80mph and I was 3 car lengths behind him. After a few moments he stopped waving and started to "concentrate". We ran 'em out past 150 before he let off to make his exit. The S7 pulled maybe 1/2 to 1 car length on me. When I passed him, an old guy probably 10 years past his expiration date started waving a thumbs up at me! I returned the thumbs up and coasted back down to 80. Gotta say, it's been a while since I had that much fun!

Watch out... Sal will now go to the Audi S7 forum and incite chaos. Then possible drive by angry bigots like the M4 group will descend upon you. Logging in under false names, saying how your 375 HP "Korean car" could never do such a thing. That the S7 has over 75hp on you, massive more turbo torque, and only a few pounds heavier than you.. That no way a Copy of the Ford 4.6 V8 could ever keep up.. They will hurl more drive by insults and bullying.

If you react, moderators will pull your comments....

Or maybe Sal will not go to the S7 forum and incite chaos.. And if the S7 folks lurk in here, they might be more polite and comrades in auto enthusiasm with us... We will see. :)

Enjoyed your description and story of reality you experienced.

What are you doing?!?!? You're going to bring the wrath of another group of German car enthusiasts upon us all! :)

Cracking up.. Funny. Was typing a comment and then saw yours after I posted.

That's the first time I have heard the Tau 4.6 referred to as a copy of the Ford 4.6. It is funny because the Ford 4.6 could only come close to the "copy" in HP/TQ when it had forced induction.

I would hope everyone were comrades in auto enthusiasm, I know the old feller I was goofing off with was!

Just saw a commercial that had a S7 in the pic promoted by Audi. Something about a foundation/charity. Anyway, the fuel filler they showed was on the passenger side... Who in these days would do that? For majority of the world, kind of a silly thing to do.. :)

The TAU had many of the attributes of the modular V8 program from Ford.. Remember, Mercedes licensed the tech way back in 92-93. Ford had a 4.6 DOHC in the 90s with Lincoln.. Then the first SVO Cobra.. Sure, Hyundai took the Monteplast design improvements to the composite intakes/Fuel injection, and copied them (Ford never used it then, too bad for them). Hyundai also improved on the exhaust flows.. And improved the heads. Hyundai also uses some of the same bore/block modular system in their 4 and V6 they reverse engineered from Ford.

Does not matter in the end.. Hyundai did enough on their own to be able to call the TAU heir own.

The S2000 drives a lot like my RX-8 did. No torque off the line at all, but it would pull hard high into the rev range. Unfortunately, the RX-8 was still incapable of respectable off the line acceleration unless you were willing to do a hero clutch drop at 7500 RPMS, which I was not :(

That thing was sewing machine smooth all the up to 9000 though. Also handled like a go-kart.

I loved this thread so much I joined so I could chip in!

For the record I don't have a Hyundai Genesis, but I've seen a few in Australia (we only get the V6 version here) and they look awesome. The V8s in the US and the rest of the civilised world look a bit like "sleepers" (i.e. quicker than they appear)... and hence this thread.

I've been looking at the Hyundai as a 2nd car (to replace my ageing X5), basically because (in Australia) they have a 5 year unlimited kilometre (transferable) factory warranty. The only one better is the Kia warranty (7 year), and definitely puts the German/Japanese marques to shame. My colleague at work has a i30 and ix35, and we both agree that a warranty represents how much a company backs its own products not to fail.

I've test driven a few Hyundais (ix35) and I've been impressed with the overall quality of the package for the price. I guess my main decision is whether to go AWD (I'm thinking of doing the grey nomad in a few years time... and also why the warranty takes on greater importance), or luxury with the Genesis (which seems to remind me of Aston Martins for some reason :D). Both are good and both are fit for purpose.

Finally, is there a thread I could be directed to that will inform me what to watch out for in 2nd hand Genesis models (as I'd probably buy one 12-18 months old with low kilometres - let the first owner take the depreciation hit!)? I'm guessing the usual make sure it's been run in correctly and serviced, but are there any particular gremlins? As much as I understand a long warranty covers one, I don't want to find myself having to fight a warranty claim because the previous owner overlooked something.

Once again - thank you. Fun thread.

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. In order to keep this particular discussion on topic - I'd appreciate it if you'd start a new thread with your questions either in the first generation or second generation Genesis forum. You'll also find it easier to get answers as this particular topic is really only visited by people looking to discuss racing... Let me know if you need any help starting a new topic - and finding the proper spot...

Thank you very much! And have a wonderful day ahead...

Thanks for the reply and my apologies for an incorrect post. I can see a few other people are asking, or have asked, similar questions, so I just might trawl through the plethora of threads! I'll probably find answers (also in the "what went wrong..." threads too).

Cheers!:p

Last Thursday ran with a 370z on the interstate. Not going to give speeds reached but will say I lost my nerve and slowed down before he did. He wasn't going anywhere before I slowed down though.

Must have been fun seeing the Caddy's tails. They are beasts!

lol, those tails are beautiful! But the Genny was given respect for staying in viewing range haha! Video was to funny

I've gone up against quite a few. Camaros, SRT4s, 5.7 challangers, gtos, mustangs. The only ones that could keep up was the GTO, and the Mustang. The GTO beat me by a hair, and the Mustang tied me.

The 3.8 is strong, but it ain't *that* strong!

+1
The term "Temet Nosce" (Latin for know thyself) comes to mind...

I know what you mean, dude. I regularly make 911's, 458's, and Aventadors eat my 4.6's dust. I did have a Veyron beat me by a nose last week though.

Ran a Trailbalzer SS (who knows if it was stock, sounded like it had at least exhaust done to it) from 60 to about 100 and I won by a nose in my 3.8. Wasn't really expecting that lol.

I used to own a heavily modded trailblazer SS. They are crippled by short gearing and the 4spd transmission in roll races. Off the line they will eat a 3.8's lunch though...
My best 1/4 mile with 500 crank HP was 13.1@103 mph lol... It had no top end ugh...
