  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What have you Raced?

Oh, I know! Walked, gapped, drug, smoked, obliterated, etc. ;)

The X5M would be a nice weekend toy but too much of a gas hog as a daily driver. Who wants to fill up on gas every two days?

This must be da fastest genesis sedan on entire west coast! ;)

Sorry about this shitty out of focus pic, it was too late to grab my real camera, lol

Where are the Nismo badges and underglow? The tinted tails were the first sign of imminent f**kery; I actually noticed the wing after.

Not a race and I never have raced......but.....
Going home from work on a four lane, light was red. I was second in line on the right and noticed it was a new, young co-worker in front of me in his late model WRX STI. We have talked cars several times as my son loves those WRXs, and I have told him so. He must have noticed it was me because when the light changed, he hit it hard. So after a split second of "Should I?", just for kicks, so did I.
DANG ESC!! Wheels chirped, then paused, then she (Genny) took off. About a 1/4 mile out from the light, I catch him, at which point my responsible senses kick in and I back down to legal speed as he pulls away.

Two miles later at the next light, I pull up beside him on the his left, as I turn left to go home. He looks over at me with an unbelievable, puzzled look on his face  and says "You...you...caught me! What the hell is that thing?" PRICELESS!!!

This weekend I did some racing- against a few Stang 5.0's, 435i, Camaro RS, GTO, 328is, and 323is.

I came in 6th of 9 in my first Autocross (of course it was on a track!) The classing is a little weird, mine was the only 4 banger in the class and it was my first autox so the fact that I didn't come in last was satisfying to me.

Au contraire, I'm quite happy that I managed to purchase a brand new 3.8 Genesis for only $24,500. It gives me the ride quality of any $50k vehicle I've driven with all the features I want in a car. It doesn't hold a candle to a Tesla Model S (which I've driven several times), and while I can afford it, I opted not to spend the $100k on one at this time.

I did stupid shit when I was 18 and I'm lucky I never killed anybody. I'm 37 now with 2 young kids who ride their bikes across 35mph roads. So yes, I'm going to call out idiots when I see them. I punch it off the line plenty but I'll never drive 90 in a 35.

Want to race? Man up and go to a track. Yup, I don't see the point in 429hp for a street car.

The Genesis is a great car whether you have the 3.8 or 4.6 or 5.0 versions, but if you have the 3.8 I hope you did get one with the premium and technology packages because those features are well worth having and the 4.6 and 5.0 models come standard with all of that. In the past I owned a 2007 and a 2009 Maxima, both with the 3.5 liter V6 which was fun to drive but this time I opted to go for the Genesis 5.0. It doesn't burn that much more gas and it sure is a blast to drive at times, and very comfortable to cruise at 75 down the highway as well.

However, I wouldn't risk going 120+ where the speed limit is 70 or 75, the ticket for that would be quite costly with the increase in insurance rates.

I have a hard time finding someone that takes my 5.0 seriously. I killed a turbo h22 prelude and a turbo si civic.. Lots of rice testing the rspec badge. Both races I killed them by atleast a 5 cars.. I tried to run a few mustangs, that blow by me on the street. Once I get on it and catch up to them they back out of it or turn off.. Hate mustang drivers lol But to share a quick story about one of my races. I also have a supercharged grand prix, headers pullies tune rockerd. I would race all the time on the street. Until one night my brakes locked up on me and I almost tboned a mini van too 100mph plus.. That changed the way I raced dramatically. I thanked god that night to be alive and I also thanked him for not allowing me to hurt someone else.

That is definitely a lesson in not taking unwise chances when having a little fun driving a bit more aggressively. Safety is still extremely important.

But it can be fun sometimes when you pull up to a red light where both lanes go straight and the driver in the other car challenges you to see who can zip off the line quickest. I had that happen at a stop light when at the front of the left lane was a young kid driving what appeared to be a heavily modified Mitsubishi Lancer, with the huge spoiler on the back and all, and I pulled up in the right lane with my 2009 Maxima. He started revving his engine, making it clear he thought he was going to beat me as soon as the light turned green. The light turned green and I accelerated just a little more aggressively than normal. 290 HP and 264 ft/lb of torque is pretty good for a 3500 lb Maxima. He maxed out his RPMs it seemed and shifted through 2-3 gears, making a lot of noise but hardly moving. I easily passed him at only about 55 and merged well in front of him, I suspect he was embarrassed.

Even more so than a 2009 Maxima, a Genesis 5.0 isn't viewed as a fast car if they don't see the 5.0 on the back.

Dodge challengers are pretty crappy cars. Hope he headed to the nearest Hyundai dealer lol

I did a test drive of a 2014 Dodge Charger R/T a couple weeks ago, when challenged by a friend who is a Dodge Charger fan to test drive one. It was nice and the 5.7 liter V8 accelerated nicely. But my 2012 Genesis 5.0 is nicer, accelerates as well, is more comfortable and I really like also having LDWS and Adaptive Cruise Control. The Charger I drove was almost same price I paid for my Genesis.

About a week ago I was driving home with my brother-in-law and an old guy in an S7 lined up next to me on the freeway. We were doing ~80mph at the time. I dropped it into 3rd gear and we took off. I pulled a 1/4 car on the S7 and held it out past 130 when we shut it down. A few minutes later the guy lined up next to me again, same results. The old guy rolled his window down and gave me a thumbs up, then we just continued on our way. My brother-in-law could not believe that I pulled an S7 like that. This makes the 2nd time I have played with an S7 with decent results.
About 2 weeks ago I was playing around with my friend and his '08 335i. We did a 20mph roll to ~60 and he got a car length on me. We went again from a stop up to about 60 and he got 2 car lengths on me. I have traded cars with him a few times and knew his car was quick, but damn, I didn't expect 2 cars from a stop. I firmly believe I would eat his lunch from 60+ though. I told him next time we get to goof off it will be on the freeway.

Had a 5.0 Mustang ride my azz for 2 miles (double yellow line) and we both turned off onto another main road and as I straightened out the car I floored it and he became a dot in my mirror before he could react. Gotta love that 5.0 power :D

I played with an Rs7 (ok he played with me) on the highway...finding the right line so to speak... I was flat out mashed to the floor at 120...giving all she got.... and the Rs7 decided to put his foot in to the floor... I became a spec in very short order. Like I was in reverse....

The aforementioned Lancer must not have been an Evo. ;)

When my son was in Okinawa, he told me about some of the Evo's he raced. And this was in a 700hp Skyline. If he had enough road, he'd get 'em, but not off the line!

Yup, big difference between the "S" and "Rs" versions. I don't get to see too many Rs' around here. I guess they are not as popular in this neck of the woods. Win or lose its still fun either way!

Yup - the Rs4 However.... we were fairly evenly matched (except for handling of course).... I found myself pulling a bit... and crawling in to his back seat on a few occasions.

we shut down around 135 - 140 ...was running out of talent.

he had 420is...Im roughly 380.... at the highway ++ speed Genny was pulling a bit. I was pleasantly surprised.

Love the Germans.. but pleasantly surprised and very happy with my Korean...

My vehicle upbringing was around 4g63 engines and AWD. Feelings get hurt, quickly. :p

I was tooling down the highway just trying to get home tonight. There was literally no traffic, save a Ford minivan and Audi A7 3.0t. The minivan was not driving in a manner in which I wanted to be near so I goosed the throttle slightly to get around him and separate from the obviously impaired driver/vehicle. I didn't even notice the A7 on the other side of the minivan.

I went back to cruising at normal speed when I notice that the Audi took exception to me. He gooses it and runs up in front of me about like I just did him and the minivan. I was not in the mood to play but he was. He slows back down and rides right next me on a 4 lane highway for about 2 miles as if to say, "Let's run 'em!".

I had the wife in the car, who usually doesn't condone the use of the right foot while the "crazies" are out on the road. She asks me, "What is he doing?". "He wants to see what I got." I replied. She then says, "Well, I am tired of him being next to us."

So I dumped the tranny down to 3rd, laid the throttle to the floor, and let the "White Puma" eat. The car jumped about 4 car lengths before the Audi could get wound up to run. I looked in the mirror and saw the lights of the Audi slowly getting dimmer as I was pulling away from him (I believe he hit his max speed). After a short time I shut the throttle down and put on the brakes.

The Audi pulls up next to me as he is shutting down. He flashes his lights and then slows down and gets behind me as we travel along at the speed limit to our destinations without any more "challenges to my manhood", as my wife called it.
