  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What is the history of the Genesis Badging?

I know it is none of my business, but how much did you lose on selling your Genesis? I am just interested in seeing what type of depreciation is occurring in the Genesis sedan. According to my dealer, a Tech 3.8 recently sold at auction for 36K which had 18K miles on it.
Your dealer was smoking something.

Maybe you are right...that is why I was checking to see what he sold his for.

$33K. Look at my posts (#41 and #44) under the thread below.

I received a private message from a forum member within 24 hours of posting the message and wound up selling the car as a result. I paid $500 over invoice for it back in Jan. and felt that $33K was more than a fair price. Could I have gotten more for the car? Sure. But I hate playing the "selling game," so I offered to let it go at a price I knew would be attractive to members of this forum who knew what a 4.6/Tech was all about.

P.S. At 65, I suppose I can be referred to as a so-called "senior citizen" who is more concerned about comfort at this stage of life, which makes the ES350 more suitable to my needs — until the Equus becomes available.

It was the Platinum Silver. I say "was" because I sold the car last week. Loved the car in general but could no longer deal with the truck-like ride on the lousy roads where I live. Bought a new Lexus ES350 with its ride that is ideal for me, but may come back to Hyundai next year if a version of the Equus with its adjustable suspension like the one I test drove several weeks ago comes in at or around $50K when it is introduced next year.

If Hyundai was to soften the suspension on the 2010 Genesis and made its ride similar to my ES350, which is highly unlikely, I'd jump back into a Platinum/Black Genesis 4.6/Tech like the one I just sold in a heartbeat. For me, that would make it the "perfect driving machine."

If the new owner is reading this (his son is a member of the forum), perhaps he can post the pics you requested.

I guess this would be as good a time as any to introduce myself. Thanks for the lead up, Bill. :)

I'm "the son". I've lurked this forum for months - enjoy the insight and passion you all bring.

I immediately PM'ed Bill when I saw his $33k offer on a barely used Platinum Metallic/Black 4.6L V8 w/ Tech + badging. My parents phoned him the next day, we drove up there a couple of days later, and (eventually) got the deal done. (There were a couple of loan-related snags along the way...... LONG story.)

I'm not sure if I should change my status from "dreamer" to "owner" even though the car isn't technically mine. bah. I think I will.

Anywho, I'll be glad to put up some photos of the badging for Stwood and others, if only to get this thread back on topic. I'll also be happy to answer any questions about the car or the private sale process, what have you, via PM or in another thread.

Can't really tell from your pics what color your car is? Does anybody have any experience with the correct 4.6 wing wheel caps ($250) on a Titanium Grey Metallic? I've seen them on a black Genesis but not on any other color. Pics would be greatly appreciated!

I've uploaded some photos of the car, including some close-ups of the "correct" wheel caps. :)

EDIT: I'm having some trouble uploading photos to my user profile on this forum. I hope to have 'em on there at some point, too.

The ES350 is a great car, ive taken it on a few long trips with loaners. Just not right for me. Its all a matter of opinion I guess. Glad to hear you are happy with yours though, thats all that really matters.

1. I don't find the flying H to be aesthetically pleasing. I got the trunk emblem ($8), steering wheel cap ($19) and 18" wheel caps ($37). Those prices include S&H, so all told I spent $64 to get the new look.

2. Before I looked into it, I questioned my salesman about the wing emblems. He said that when they got them in, the service department would put them on for me for a good price (I think I read somewhere else that the price was like $300). After joining this site and taking a look at eBay, I just called my salesman back and let him know that I probably wouldn't need any help getting the emblems on, and he volunteered to have his service department put them on for FREE. All I have to do is just bring them in and he'll get it done while I wait. I offered to let him take pictures to use in their advertising in exchange if he wants.

3. The steering wheel badge and wheel caps are easy enough that my 11 year old daughter could do them. For the steering wheel cap, just remove the backing of the double-sided sticky tape, line up properly, and press. The edges of the new emblem should fit around the flying H. For the wheel caps, just remove with a flat head screwdriver, line up the new caps, and tap in the new caps with the heel of your hand or a rubber mallet. Should take no more than 3-5 minutes. I'm going to let the service department of my dealer do the trunk's emblem, even though I live in East-central Florida and wouldn't even need a hairdryer to get the flying H off.
Hi,

thanks,

anthony
