  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What is your biggest complaint about the Hyundai Genesis?

Re: If you had to choose

My current Genesis?

1. The iPod integration is clunky. Very clunky. There are work-arounds, but work-arounds shouldn't be necessary for such a device in a car like this.

2. I'd like to take advantage of the streaming bluetooth. I didn't think it was a big deal, until my GF bought a Lexus this past Monday.

Re: If you had to choose

better org. equip. tires. Have been using the Bridgestone Serenity tires which are much better. I checked the Tire Rack to compare the performance and the Dunflops are flops.
Faster responce to voice comands in nav.

Re: If you had to choose

The buttons on the steering wheel, just feel very cheap. They don't even seem to be on par with the ones on the dashboard. Now I haven't had a problem with them or anything but they just don't seem as high end.

And the back seats not folding down/the pass through being so damn small seems kind of silly. A HUGE trunk with a 8inx8in pass through and no folding seats. Just seems like if they had a list of things to do they didn't get to address that area.

I absolutely love everything but I wish it had auto dimming side mirrors.

The 4.6 has auto dimming side mirrors. One thing I'd never had before, and now seem to can't live without.

There is a little symbol in the upper right hand corner on the mirrors for this:

I would strongly agree with you about #1. I would go so far as to say it's awful.

Ipod integration is ok but could be improved. Losing shuffle when car is turned off, and no internal memory to speed going through playlists are deinite flaws

For the 4.6 tech...

There should be a monitor or monitors in the rear that play video while driving.

At the very least, there should be a video out port for the DVD system that allows video to play while driving. This video out port (ideally in the rear compartment somewhere) could be used to plug in auxiliary monitors.

The 6-DVD changer is useless in this vehicle with its "crippled while driving" playback functionality.

Not really as you can still listen to the audio of a DVD concert and play CDs just fine when driving.

You don't want to watch the video while you're driving do you?

I dislike the choice of shift points...

DVD changer's definitely not useless to me; it's loaded with DVD-A discs. If somebody was in the back watching a movie, I'd want them to have headphones on their own player--not tying up the Lexicon with a movie soundtrack.

I could list a dozen nits but actually like the car very much. Only 6,000 miles, so ask again in a year or so :D

Been back to the dealer four times and that is my problem ... my dealer is not what I am used to ... but that's the dealer and not the Genesis.

Not for music in 5.1 (7.1) it isn't.

I would like to see a remote starter that is optional equipment. That would be a nice option.I also think the mechanics at the dealer should get more knowledge on the Genny; the Genny is a different automobile than any of the other Hyundai's.

I would like to see tires that wear better/longer, in the past I usually went 45,000-50,000 miles on a set of tires. I wold also like a mute button for the radio.

A few quibbles:

1: sunroof looses power as soon as car is shut off... yet the power windows can be closed for a few seconds. Why isn't the sunroof on the same delay timer?!?!

2: water dripping into trunk when trunk lid is opened after washing car or after a rainstorm.

3: lack of adjustments on passenger seat - mostly the lack of a seat up/down height adjustment for my short mom. Also lack of passenger seat cooling.

4: slow kickdown of auto transmission (ZF 6-speed on the V8 models... don't know about the Aisin V6 transmission)

5: nag screen on Tech package if trying to listen to radio with the engine OFF.

6: voice command doesn't work very well for me. SoCal accent?

7: Nav system wanting the street name prior to specifying the city when using the DIS knob for entry... because "BACK" goes back too far while hunting for the right street+city combo. Otherwise though the nav system is very good - beats my fairly new Garmin. SOOOO much easier to see that big screen too!

While browsing the factory service manuals (available online) I noticed the Tech package head unit has a second video output port labeled "rear LCD monitor." The pinout is the same as the one for the dash LCD display though the connector has an extra plastic nub to make sure you can't swap the two connectors. It looks possible to buy another LCD + data cable + power cable and get a rear seat screen. Would it continue to show a DVD movie while driving? I don't know. I'll bet YES though because the same basic DIS system/package is used in the Equus with rear display capability. If somebody was daring/adventurous they could probably test this in their car by just X-acto knifing that nub away to plug the dash LCD into the rear seat monitor port... and seeing what displays on the dash LCD. In the secret maintenance menu there is a setting to enable/disable the rear display.

More miles would be nice, but I suspect it's more a property of 18 inch tires in general. My wife was cautioned that her BMW would only get around 20K by the dealer pre-purchase.
There's definitely tread shock from those moving up from 16s or 17s.
