  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What is your biggest complaint about the Hyundai Genesis?

.

Have to Thank You, picked up the Lexol Cleaner and conditioner, and the GREY CAST came off the leather along with a bunch of dirt the previous cleaner did not pick up. (The previous cleaner was Advance Auto Parts own brand cleaner/conditioner). The leather still has creases, so it doesn't look "new" but that may be due to my 250 lbs size. The color, however, is back to new.

I might have to pick one up myself.
The cashmere leather in my Genny is getting dirty, especially around the edge of the seating surface.

The rattles, lack of cooled passenger front seat, ipod interface, side view mirrors don't fold when parked, rear view camera doesn't work all the time, suspension.

Summarize my Opinion

According to CNNMoney.com
http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2009/autos/0907/gallery.2009_jdpower_apeal/8.html
BMW 5-series was behind Hyundai Genesis and Jaguar XF respectively, in an apples to apples competition. The 2011 BMW 5-series only offers the 8-speed transmission on their
V-6 RWD model, the AWD models and V-8 only offer the 6-speed transmission.

The 2011 BMW 5-series 4.4 V-8 with all the fixes described in this thread has an MSRP
of $62,000. That is $20,000 more than the 2011 Genesis 4.6.

I think I can live with everything that this thread has to offer for that much.

What kind of Rattles are you experiencing and have you ever asked the dealer to fix the rattles?

I noticed this comment as well - I don't remember seeing many, if any, complaints about rattles in any threads here. Doesn't seem like this is a common complaint...

After ten months and 20k miles, including three major road trips totaling 10200 miles, the only complaint I have is a NAV screen I cannot see whenever the sun hits it through the windshield.

Unfortunately, that happens frequently here in Florida.

Just crossed 800 miles, and only two items occur to me. One is the non-linear acceleration -- It's almost like there's a sort of hump coming out of first that it has to get over and then runs up into second more quickly than expected. This is only noticeable for me when coming up to speed very slowly from a stop -- If I gun it or anything resembling gunning it, I don't notice it. I wish there was something I could do about it -- Thought about raising the issue with my dealer but anticipate that they'll say that's the way the transmission is designed. (Any ideas from anyone?)

Second is that as plush and generally soft-touch as the interior is, I wish the driver's side left armrest was a little softer. The way I drive I keep my elbow firmly planted there pretty much the entire time, and there's some sort of material just below the surface and padding that just doesn't give. My last car was a 2003 Nissan 350Z, which certainly had a less luxurious interior, but it was absolutely more comfortable in this one respect.

Sounds to me like a very good argument as to why they are planning to switch to the eight speed transmission

More pet peeves than complaints and some of these may have been addressed by newer models (mine is an early '09) but here they are:
1. No quick touch directional for passing/lane change--hit it once, blinks three times
2. Driver's window lock disables all but the drivers window, even for the driver. It should disable the window switches only for all passengers, and leave the driver with the ability to work all the windows. Never had a car like this.
3. Display button on the non-tech head unit. When you turn off the display (to reduce in cabin lighting at night, or to remove the hideous Genesis advertisement when not listening to the radio and you subsequently turn off the car while the display is off, it takes three presses of the button to turn it off again once you restart the car. Something funky in the way the car reads the signal reset on this function at restart.
4. Agree with others re: tires, passenger seat adjustment

I would agree it's not the most common complaint, but there have been a reasonable share of complaints about the passenger door rattle (including detailed instructions on how to fix it). I have that rattle, and another that appears to be just under the dash behind the glove box that I haven't been able to get fixed.

I had one other rattle that came from the bluetooth module (I have the 2009 base model V6) but the dealer actually was able to correct that one with a minor adjustment.

I'm still hoping to tear into the door to fix the door rattle (the most annoying of the ones left) but I've been reluctant until the bumper-to-bumper warranty runs out. Only 7,000 miles to go for that.

I have had a 2010 3.8 for 6 months now----The problem I have, and have had, is the hard hard ride.....It never has "softened up" and everybody who rides in the car brings it to my attention too......Sort of takes the joy out of what otherwise would be a great car.....Will have to get rid of it soon as I cant take the jarring bumpy ride about town, every day, day after day a jarring ride.........Its great on the hwy but I dont ride the highway that much.....very disappointed

Yes, the Genesis has a firm ride. May I suggest a Lincoln Town Car.

Firm ride? Not compared to a 330i with sport suspension or a pickup, which is what I am used to driving!!

I must be totally numb to this whole ride issue. I had an 04 Nissan Murano prior to my Genny and I think the ride is great. Maybe its because of what I had prior but I actually enjoy the feeling of the road it gives me a better feeling of the car.

Warranty repairs. I've had the DIS control knob changed, and I am having the steering column swapped out as part of the tilt steering limit switch problem. I figured out that the buzzing from the Lexicon speakers was really the rear power shade. Not real excited that I'm averaging a trip to the dealer every two months. I hope this isn't the cars Hyundai roots showing themselves.

There is a clicking sound that happens intermittently from behind the ac unit behind the dash. I had one dealer that heard but couldn't find it and another dealer who I use now, hasn't heard it yet. My feeling is they do not want to remove the dash because they do not know what they are looking for, but it does exist.

I have a Mercedes-Benz E-class that has the feature. I hate it. Hated that feature on BMWs as well during test drives. (Turn signal stalks on late-model BMWs, especially those with Active Steering, are atrocious.)

I have two complaints as I near 36K miles:

(1) DIS crashes, though very rarely (only once every other month at most). Taking a quick roadside break then restarting resets it. More often the steering wheel audio controls quit working in one direction (i.e. volume up dies, volume down keeps working) - it is a software issue, not a bad button issue.
(2) Rattle from the driver's side door. It goes away mysteriously if I expand the driver's door map pocket, however.

Still the most satisfactory car I've ever had, by a long shot.

And ride quality - I'd say pretty smooth. Some expansion joints, I can feel them, but nevertheless smoother than both my daily driver ('02 Accord) and the car the Genesis replaced ('04 BMW 3). The BMW left my behind very sore after just an hour or two on the interstate. The Genesis was comfortable enough to let me drive from Denver to Southern California, 1,000 miles, in one day, and I felt like I could still drive another 100-200 miles.
