  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What is your biggest complaint about the Hyundai Genesis?

Love my Gen 5.0, except one thing.

Last winter lots of snow and my Genesis could not move on snow at all.
I think rear wheel drive makes the problem worse.
Really needs 4 wheel drive... it is a must.

Our other 2 wheel drive automobile were much better on snow.

Will snow tire help?
I hope Hyundai makes 4 wheel drive for 4.6 or 5.0
Has nothing to do with the car. This winter we got just over 70 inches of snow over the months, and I only had issues twice, and I was regularly driving through snow that was up past the bottom of the front bumper. Good set of winter tires is all it takes.

Well, that and knowing how to actually drive in snow. Here in the DC area, we get transplants from all parts of the country and the world, who only know that 1) snow is cold and white, and 2) "I have 4-wheel drive, so I can drive in anything." That last is disproved with clockwork regularity by the sight of SUVs sitting in ditches everywhere.

When we get snow forecast here, people empty out the grocery stores of milk, bread, and toilet paper, apparently in the belief that the 2" of snow we're expecting will trap them in their homes for months and months. Then when the snow hits, they need to take their vehicle out and abandon it on I-95.

I lived 15 years in upstate New York, and I avoid going out in the snow now - not because I can't drive in the stuff, but because some knucklehead will be spinning his tires furiously ahead of me in a vain attempt to get to the end of our street.

+1 - I'm in MD now, but grew up and learned to drive in NW PA, in the lake effect zone of Lake Erie. Snow on the ground from Thanksgiving to Easter. Like BPSCG, I don't go out when it snows - the roads are littered and clogged with SUV supremacists and regular snow-impaired drivers. It's not worth the risk, and the roads are usually cleared within 24 hours or less anyway.

Turn the ESC off. It'll let you get a little wheel spin and get moving.

I thought about making trunk heavy, too ...
It really helps, huh?

Great, snow tire and 2 bag of sand... just what the doctor ordered !

Thanks for help.

(I still think 4 wheel or 4matic would be much nicer ~~~~)

Yes, Blizzak's are your friend. That and 2 bags of sand in the trunk. You will not believe the difference.

Agreed. Snow tires make a huge difference on any car. Even AWD.

As far as my biggest gripe with Hyundai is that some dealer service depts look more like a dirty independent quick lube shop rather than a clean luxury brand service area.

Sometimes you get what you paid for I suppose. At least the car is great.

I agree with you 100% !
I've been telling Hyundai to separate Genesis/Equus dealership.
If not, at least different service shop.
They can try out few of these at large cities without much expenses.

What Hyundai need to upgrade most at this point is "image & service"

Hyundai have come a long way from Pony/Excel
(Yes, my first Hyundai car was Excel, ha ha.. 4 speed, no air, manual window,,, just a little better than Yugo)

My biggest complaint is the hesitation when depressing the accelerator. After taking it to the dealership and being told that they didn't find any problems I found a site that states that Hyundai used a lower end electronic module that relays the command to the throttle body to operate. I also found a possible fix for the problem. Whenever I get an extra 300 bucks, I'll address the problem. I found the site through a TV show , I think it was Car Fix, but they say that manufacturers want to control how you drive the product because it is less wear and tear on the car/warranty. They said it was at least a 1 to 2 second delay from the time you depress the accelerator until the message is received and that Lexus, GM and Hyundai were all affected. The module also governs how fast the throttle body opens. Come to find out it is not linear like the cable controlled system was, the module makes it open slower that the cable system. The new module is called Sprint Booster. They have 3 different levels you the driver can select. The highest level, Race, is supposed to be as close to the cable system as you can get.
I do believe that the lag in the take-off time is a severe safety hazard. A 1 to 2 second delay doesn't seem like much until your in a busy area where you only have that small window to merge, then it's like an eternity. why have all of the horsepower and then keep you from using it to keep you and your family safe. I bought the 4.6L for the responsiveness and the ability to get out of the way when needed. A defensive driver can not be slower that the people around them, just doesn't work.
If anyone tries this or has already tried it, please let me know what your evaluation is.
Thanks, Safety is what I do for a living and would like to keep on living.

Do a search on here with the words "Sprint Booster" and you will find many posts on this subject. One good thing it sounds like Hyundai corrected this issue with the new 2015 5.0 Gen 2 car.

Wonder if we will be able to swap the 2015 accelerator/throttle module?

so far, my 2015 is a dream! Only problem I had was the rear badge. I ordered one from Korea supposed to be trunk badge for 2015, and it was, except the mounting holes were in wrong place. Had to cut em off and just stick it on! Hope it stays!!

Will not be an issue. The posts are just for alignment. They don't hold it on the car. The 3M tape is more than enough. So long as you cleaned the area off with denatured alcohol it should stick forever.

Steering! My 2013 genesis is hard to steer. I asked the dealer if there was an electronic flash for it and they said no. It doesn't seem right that the sonata and equos can be adjusted but not the genesis, the ride could be a little smoother. Other than that love the car.

The NAV system is sad. Updates seem to be years old. The Parking Sensors go off for not reason while stopped or parked and no cars around. Replaced the sad Dunlop tires with Michelin MVX4's and handling is so much improved, especially on rainy days. The biggest complaint are the DEALERS that want to treat you like you got an Elantra. The second biggest complaint is the DROP IN VALUE year to year.

Finally got rid of my car after 10 months and many trips to the dealership. Shame it wasn't a reliable I trusted for the future, was great otherwise.

Have a 2012 with tech package. The nav system is one sorry pos when it comes to routing. It will almost always send me on a route that is 10-25% longer than it should be. I don't trust it at all, and use my phone for trip routing instead.

Same problem with the 2013's. A Garmin solved that problem.

I wish I would have bought the model with the tech package. I bought the 3.8 and my brother bought the 4.6 with tech package....I have car envy when I ride in his car. I want folding mirrors and all those other goodies.
