  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The Gv70 is already such a beautiful car so I understand it doesn’t need much, but is there some mods you think that takes the car to the next level?

Thats easy if you’re talking about GV70’s purchased in North America. Better tires than the Primacy’s. Why? Because the GV70 deserves some UHP tires! (mine does at least;)

The only thing I have done is install a catch can and put a license plate frame on from the store here. My wife wanted the Genesis license frame. Basically, nothing. The tires are fine for her, but this chassis cries out for stickier tires.

Now you all don’t have to take just my word for it, looks like The Drive is on to something with these Continental DWS06+.

Ironically, The Drive doesn’t even mention the performance in the wet of the Conti’s which is the DWS06+’s best attribute IMHO. If you need a good rain tire, these rock! I Love them, highly recommended first mod for all North American GV70s!

What is the catch can for? The 3.5 is dual injected so would not need it.

I added mud flaps to mine. I think it helps a lot.

I'm gonna get mud flaps for sure. I may lower it and I may get a jb4, I'm waiting till I actually get it and drive it for a bit before I make those decisions. May also do mufflers.

Tint on the front windows and windshield are a real good add. Also, in this day and age, a dash cam is not a bad idea.

If you have 21” wheels that’s true, but everyone with 19” wheels is golden.

But you can upgrade to Michelin Pilot Sports, which the rest of the world gets with their GV70’s.

All engines need a catch can. My Gen Coupe was MFI and needed one. GDI even more. The dual injectors are a huge help, but do not 100% address build-up in the intake. It delays a cleaning process though. I look at catch cans as a cheap life extension mod.

Are you kidding us? I have Pilot Sport all seasons as my off-season tires for my Veloster N on smaller rims. They are really awesome and I can still go around corners on two wheels.

Specifically regarding EGR combined with direct fuel injection, all engines will benefit from a catch can, reducing carbon build up on the Head. However, both the 2.5 & 3.5 engines in the GV70 have port injection in addition to direct, negating the necessity to add a catch can.

No I’m not kidding you.

I've seen this quite a bit on the forum...the tires seem to be rated very highly. What is the issue with them?

Thanks.

Firstly, I’d imagine that if I had the 21” wheels, that my only complaint might be the jittering, and the fact that I’d know the Primacy’s are limiting my GV70’s handling, stopping and acceleration potential.

In actuality, I have the 19” wheels with the taller side walls, and my driving impressions of the Primacy’s was that the sidewall is so soft that I could literally feel it collapsing during hard cornering. Now this car was tuned by Albert Biermann, so I knew that it could annihilate a series of twisty turning roadways. And lo and behold the GV70 is a dancer! But you will never realize the true potential of your car until you replace the primacy’s…

Our sister car, the now discontinued Kia Stinger GT2 AWD, as tested from C&D:

Ever heard of a Class C motorhome? They’re 25 feet long. Let’s say you and I are both traveling at 70MPH side by side and we both have stopped Class C Motorhomes stopped in front of us on the speedway. I will crash gently into the luggage compartment, while those in this scenario with the Primacy’s will be violently buried into the front engine bay of that said vehicle.

Anyways, as you say this has all been said before.

Wow...great information, thanks! I'll have to go search for the discussions again to see what was recommended as a replacement...

Absolutely. You’re welcome. Personally, I think everyone here should put on some good UHP tires on the GV70.

Here‘s the original thread I think you’re talking about:

Yes, thanks...those are the same tires I concluded would be best for me too! I need some good snow and ice traction too. I live in Edmonton, Alberta so more snow than dry pavement!
