If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Some of you have owned a few luxury, or sports sedans in the past. I've never owned or even driven any high end Autos. The vehicle that I owned before that was decent in the slightest was the 1999 Buick regal GS. I now own a 2010 Genesis 4.6. My question is if you had to pick a high end vehicle that rides and drives nearly like the 4.6 Genesis, which vehicle would you choose.

My early '80s 280ZX had a similar ride.

The Genesis is a sport sedan, and I actually like the ride. I don't do much interstate floating, however.

I owned 7 different '98 and '99 Regal GSs. The suspension on mine was VERY rough. Of course, it's probably the modifications I made to race them on a dirt ovel!

Do you have a 2009 or 2010 model? There are noticeable differences, especially with early 2009 models.

I think Sarge was referring to his Buick when he stated the suspension was very rough.

The only evidence I've seen on this site is approx one or two owners saying they've noticed a difference, one or two saying there is no difference and one or two saying they couldn't tell any difference.

From that data, I don't see how you've reached such a definitive conclusion.

I'm just suggesting that you not post your opinions as "facts" but do so with the proper context.

In my opinion, any changes Hyundai may have made to the suspension would be very hard to notice.

One of the very comparable vehicles with similar price range would be the Acura TL SH-AWD.
I was contemplating between the two(2010 Acura TL SH-AWD Tech package w/ 6-speed manual and the 2009 Genesis 4.6 tech), but chose the Genesis because of the overall design(just beautiful) and lower selling price.

Now with the issues I've been having with my Lexicon(mind you, sound system was one of the biggest priorities for me), I'd go with the Acura TL if I have to do it all over again.

Your stats are flat out wrong. Two people have paid about $1800 to have the 2010 retrofitted on their 2009 and say it was worth every penny. Many others have test driven the 2010 and think the change is worthwhile (I have been busy and will eventually have mine changed). These are the "facts".

My G35 rode very similar to the Genesis overall, it's a sports tuned suspension system and I am satisfied with how well it performs in most situations. The car is very compliant in almost anything you demand of it.

The tires contribute a lot to the ride of the Genesis, especially the 18" Dunlops. They handle great in both dry and wet weather. I can't speak for snow because I have never had it in this situation. The only downside to how great these tires perform is the short lifespan they have.

With only a 340 treadwear rating, most people are lucky to get between 20-25k miles out of them, some get a little bit more....and this is with proper tire care (rotate/balance/align) as scheduled. I might even suggest servicing them before the scheduled interval to maximize the life you get out of them. If your hot-dogging these tires all the time then your not even going to make 20k miles out of them.

I have done a bit of research already on replacement tires and pretty much everything in the 235/50R18's have a very low tread life expectancy. In my next post I have compared 2 viable replacement tires that are comparable if not better in overall performance and include a manufacturers warranty.

You are also leaving out the fact that many people don't have any issues with the ride. The only thing that you can say is a fact is that people have differing opinions on the ride and whether or not they like it.

My stats are correct. If you have others, let us know. I think you make this stuff up to proved your point. Several people have called your attention to this before but it just doesn't seem to get thru to you. Just makes the information posted on this site less believable.

My Genesis is an '09 4.6.

It was my Regals that had a very rough ride - by design. I raced them on a dirt oval, and went to great lengths to stiffen the suspension.

My grilfriend has an older TL (2006 I think). Her suspension seems a bit stiffer - certainly the steering is "tighter".

If I had known that my Genesis woul be in and out of the shop with DIS/NAV/Sound issues for well over half the time I've owned it, I certainly would have bought something else. Shame, really, as I otherwise love the Genesis.

Funny, I'm having the same buyers remorse.
Really, it's quite a big problem than we think. Even the dealer knew about the issue and didn't even bother to replicate the issue I described.

out of everything i driven and owned i would hands down choose the 2009 v8 tek.

if i were to have to chose something else it would either be an jaguar xj8(r) or a bently continental gt speed. i dont think there is anything in the genesis price point that i would want to own.......

You have great taste. I had an XJ8 and it was just beautiful, inside and out. As I recall, it rode a little softer than our Genesis. The new ones are drop dead gorgeous.....but the pricing has really gone through the roof and just too much to spend on a car, IMO.

My information is accurate. As I stated, two different people have replaced their 2009 suspension with 2010 components and both said it was worth the cost.

"...wanted to give a one month update after the upgrade to tell you if my original comments still stand. They still stand that but I would add that the bounciness/bumpiness of the ride has been improved closer to 80%. This is a must upgrade for those who have early 09 suspensions. It has made a major difference in the enjoyment of the car. I no longer desire to get rid of the car have been enjoying my time with the Genesis. This is the car they should have made from the beginning. I like firm riding cars but the upredictable nature of the early 09 suspension drove me nuts. The suspension in the 2010 is predictable and reliable to what will happen when a certain bump in the road or joint is driven over. This alone is worth the upgrade. The Genesis feels more "button down" and really shows with the upgraded parts when passengers are sitting in the back. The ride is much more compliant. I would also like to point out that before I did the suspension upgrade I compared my car with 2010. I could clearly bounce the backend of my car up and down by hand while the 2010 did not move. After the 2010 suspension upgrade I am happy to report that my car acts identical to the 2010 tester model and the rear end can't be bounced by hand. I would not hesitate to recommend this upgrade. It is a must for those with early 09 cars."

The other person known to have swapped out the 2009 suspension parts with 2010 upgrades is genesis45 who posted this after making the change:

There are others (including myself) who have an early 2009 and compared it to the 2010 have noticed the difference.

Although there are some who claim to not have noticed any difference between the 2009 and 2010 suspensions, there are a couple of things to consider:

  1. Hyundai made mid-year changes to improve the 2009 suspension (4/21/09 build date). Most people who compared the 2009 and 2010 where probably comparing the revised 2009 models with the 2010 (and not the early 2009).
  2. It has been been confirmed by many sources (including a Hyundai Tech who posts on this forum) that mid-year 2009 suspension changes were made , and additional suspension changes were made for 2010. Other sources, such as Hyundai employees on Hyundai Think Tank website have confirmed this (as well as obvious part number changes). It would be absurd to think that Hyundai went to the trouble to change these suspension parts if there was no improvement.

Sandy> thanks
yes the xj felt a little disconnected for my liking, but i tell ya i realy loved the car for what it was. handling when you needed it and a cloud like ride on the hwy. only thing missing was an aromatherapy appointment!!! I have yet to visit a NEW xj but from what i understand they are on their way to strongly competing with bently

So, what you're saying is some people notice a difference and some don't.
Kind of my point. It is not a "fact" that the change is noticable by everyone.

I can boil my point down to this question....Using the info you supplied above, which is the more appropriate statement?

1. A handful of people have compared the '09 and '10 suspensions with some noticing a difference while others did not. The sample of people involved is probably so small as to make it hard to draw definitive conclusions. Also, the "standards" of the test drives may have varied widely as may have the suspension expectations of those involved. In addition, two people have upgraded the '09 suspension with '10 parts and feel the investment was worth it. Or,

2 There is a noticable difference between the '09 and '10 suspensions.

As far as absurdites go, no one is disputing that there are people unhappy with the suspension or that changes were made. But, which is the greater absurdity...that Hyundai went to the trouble to make changes with no noticeable improvement or that Hyundai invested untold millions into the design and development of a flagship vehicle for its brand and intoduced it into the U>S> market with a less that ideal suspension in the first place?

Instead of arguing, why don't we all include in future posts on any subject where different points of view exist that there are different points of view....instead of putting opinions forward as if they were facts not to be questioned.

Wouldn't you agree that would make for a better site, particularly for recent members who may have missed the history of a subject.
