  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anybody know for sure what should be included in a "fuel system" cleaning? I have the 2010 4.6L. What would be a reasonable cost?

Personally, I'd avoid these "cleanings" from the dealer. They are not in the service schedule either. Not required to maintain warranty and proper care of your vehicle.

Just use Top Tier gas-----------no addition cleaning needed.

I've got a 1994 Topaz with 234,000 miles and the engine still starts and runs fine. It's never had anything done to the fuel system (including fuel filter replacement).

What about cleaning the throttle body?

Modern cars use fly by wire (actuator). The actuator can go bad, but not sure you can just clean them with a solvent.

Thanks for the replies. So, I'll just get a bottle of that stuff the dealer uses and pour it in at my next fill up.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I'd say get a bottle of Chevron Techron concentrate and call it a day.

Or you can do this if you really want to: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/3M-08963-Fuel-System-Tune-Up/dp/B003YJ47JO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375740419&sr=8-1&keywords=3m+fuel+system+tune-up+kit"]http://www.amazon.com/3M-08963-Fuel-System-Tune-Up/dp/B003YJ47JO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375740419&sr=8-1&keywords=3m+fuel+system+tune-up+kit[/ame]

I had a dealer do this to my 2010 4.6 when I took her in for vibration at idle and in gear, it did absolutely nothing and I was not charged for it; but if memory servers the bill showed a $5 (no charge)

Just say no!

Every gasoline product sold in America in the commercial environment must meet a minimum requirement of detergents in the gasoline to help keep fuel systems clean. For a Genesis, this should be plenty enough to last your car a lifetime as long as you purchase fuel from reputable vendors.

If you're paranoid, use gasoline demonstrated to meet Top Tier standards.

Otherwise, don't pour any fuel additives to your tank. They don't do anything except line the pockets of the companies that produce it.

I'd consider spending my money to use a fully synthetic oil in my car to protect it against long-term engine wear before worrying about the fuel system.

This does NOT include the government's idiotic ideas that continuing to increase the ethanol blend in gasoline will not ruin fuel system components. No additive in the world will prevent ethanol damage due to high ethanol levels.

Pick up a bottle of 44K and your good to go!

Close inspection of the Hyundai Fuel Injector Cleaner bottle reveals that it is actually Chevron Fuel Injector Cleaner with Techron. Hyundai Motors is not in the petrochemical business, so any Hyundai branded product like that is just another product that is rebranded for them with their name on it.

I buy Techron at Costco for a fraction of the Hyundai cost. Been using Techron for many years.
I add about 3 bottles every time I change oil. Note, Techron says it treats "up to sixteen gallons". This is just preventative maintenance that costs little.

Chevron Techron is currently on sale at Advance Auto Parts for $7.99. It was shown in an email sent to me about August Monthly Specials.

I posted in another thread that Chevron PRO-GARD Fuel Injector Cleaner with Techron is on-sale at Costco for 13.99 for 6-pack of 16 oz each ($4.00 instant off at register-no coupon needed). Costco membership required. I checked the price on Amazon, and the same 6-pack sells for $37.25:

This is a somewhat different product than Chevron Techron Concentrate, which is a little more expensive, although Chevron PRO-GARD has Techron in it. Chevron claims the Techron Concentrate product cleans more than just fuel injectors.

Hyundai's Fuel System Cleaner appears to be the same as the Chevron Techron Concentrate. Here is a link from another forum which explains the difference between the fuel injector cleaner and the fuel system cleaner.
